Maren's Tip

Stock up on Hearty meals before boss fights — a single Hearty Durian dish gives full recovery plus bonus hearts. Don't forget to save!

Description

An amorphous mass of concentrated Gloom found in the Depths. Creates an expanding Gloom field that drains max hearts. Less aggressive than Gloom Hands but dangerous due to persistent area denial.

Weakness

Gloom Spawn's primary weakness is Fire attacks, Sundelion-fused arrows, light sources.

How to Beat Gloom Spawn

  1. Gloom Spawn are amorphous masses of concentrated Gloom that appear in the Depths, often in areas with heavy Gloom concentration.
  2. They are less immediately lethal than Gloom Hands but more insidious because their Gloom field continuously drains max hearts while you are near them.
  3. Preparation: Bring Brightbloom Seeds (critical for visibility and Gloom suppression), Sunny meals for heart restoration, and fire-element weapons.
  4. Sundelion-fused arrows are particularly effective.
  5. Equip the Depths Armor set for Gloom resistance if available.
  6. Phase 1 — Environmental Control: Gloom Spawn create a persistent Gloom field around themselves that expands over time.
  7. Standing in this field drains max hearts even without direct contact.
  8. Your first priority is limiting the Gloom field's spread by throwing Brightbloom Seeds near the Gloom Spawn — the light from Brightblooms slows Gloom expansion.
  9. Large Brightbloom Seeds are even more effective.
  10. Create a perimeter of light around the fight area to contain the Gloom field.
  11. Phase 2 — Ranged Assault: Fire-fused arrows and Sundelion-fused arrows deal bonus damage to Gloom Spawn and briefly suppress their Gloom field on impact.
  12. Stay outside the Gloom field and fire arrows from range.
  13. The Gloom Spawn moves slowly but persistently toward Link, so you need to kite it — fire, retreat, fire, retreat.
  14. If it gets too close, sprint away and reestablish distance.
  15. The Gloom Spawn attacks by lunging forward and leaving Gloom trails behind it.
  16. These trails damage you like standing Gloom.
  17. It can also fire Gloom projectiles at medium range that travel slowly but leave impact pools.
  18. Phase 3 — Cleanup: At low health, the Gloom Spawn becomes more erratic, moving faster and expanding its Gloom field more aggressively.
  19. Finish it quickly with concentrated arrow fire or a strong melee combo if you can safely approach from a non-Gloom angle.
  20. After defeating a Gloom Spawn, the Gloom field it created dissipates over about fifteen seconds.
  21. Do not linger in the area during dissipation — the field still damages you until fully gone.
  22. Eat Sunny food immediately after the fight to restore any lost max hearts.
