Aged Relics Guide — What They Are and How to Use Them in TotK
Overview
Aged Relics are a category of non-magical material found throughout Tears of the Kingdom — typically in ancient ruins, abandoned structures, and archaeological sites. They look like crumbling pottery shards, old stone tablets, or weathered metalwork. On the surface they seem like vendor trash, but Aged Relics have specific uses in combat, crafting, and selling that make them worth picking up and managing intelligently.
What Are Aged Relics?
Aged Relics are ancient objects that have survived from an earlier era of Hyrule's civilization. In game terms, they function as a material type that can be:
- Sold for moderate Rupee value (typically 50-200 Rupees each depending on condition)
- Fused to weapons or shields as combat attachments
- Used in quests — several side quests request specific relic types as proof of exploration
- Traded with collectors — certain NPCs will pay premium prices for specific relic types
Types of Aged Relics
| Relic Type | Primary Source | Sell Value | |-----------|---------------|-----------| | Ancient Vase Shard | Ruins, caves | 50 Rupees | | Worn Stone Tablet | Underground rooms | 75 Rupees | | Corroded Shield Fragment | Abandoned forts | 100 Rupees | | Ancient Arrowhead | Depths ruins | 80 Rupees | | Old Spear Tip | Akkala ruins, Deep Akkala | 90 Rupees | | Zonai Relic Fragment | Zonai ruins, sky islands | 150 Rupees |
Values may vary slightly based on game version and merchant type.
Where to Find Aged Relics
Akkala Citadel Ruins
The Akkala Citadel Ruins are the single richest source of Aged Relics on the surface. Fallen walls, collapsed armories, and buried supply rooms throughout the citadel contain Corroded Shield Fragments, Ancient Arrowheads, and worn stone tablets. A full sweep of the citadel typically yields 8-15 relics.
Depths Ancient Ruins
The Depths layer directly below major surface ruins often contains underground counterparts. Below Hyrule Castle and the Akkala Citadel are Depths rooms with relic clusters. The catch is that gloom management is required for sustained collection.
Sky Island Ruins
Zonai Relic Fragments are specific to sky islands — the stone platforms and collapsed Zonai structures scattered across the sky layer. These are the highest-value individual relics and worth prioritizing on sky island exploration.
Abandoned Mines and Caves
Some named caves contain a "back room" with an ancient storage area holding pottery shards and tablets. These are usually gated behind a combat challenge or puzzle.
Using Aged Relics as Fuse Materials
Fusing an Aged Relic to a weapon adds a small amount of base attack power. The exact bonus depends on the relic type:
- Stone Tablet Fuse: +4 attack (functions like a blunt stone)
- Shield Fragment Fuse: +5 attack (functions like a metal fragment)
- Zonai Relic Fragment Fuse: +8 attack (higher-value fusion material)
Relics are not the best Fuse materials in the game compared to Lynel horns or Zonai device parts, but in early game when better materials are scarce, they provide a meaningful weapon upgrade.
Quest Uses
Several NPCs and side quests request Aged Relics:
- Archaeologist NPC at Kakariko Village requests specific tablets and pottery for research
- Museum display quests in various villages sometimes accept ancient relic items
- Bargainer Statues in the Depths occasionally list specific relic types in their trading catalogs
Selling Strategy
If you have no active quest need for Aged Relics, sell them at:
- General stores in major villages (Kakariko, Hateno, Goron City)
- Bargainer Statue merchants in the Depths for Poe exchange rates
- Wandering merchants who sometimes offer 20-30% premium on antiques
Don't hoard more than 5-10 of any single relic type unless you know a specific quest requires them — inventory space is better used for active combat materials.
Tips
- Aged Relics are heavy relative to their carry weight slot — don't pick up every single one if inventory is tight
- The Zonai Relic Fragment is the most valuable type; prioritize those on sky island sweeps
- Selling relics is a consistent mid-game Rupee source when ore is depleted
- The Compendium does not require relic photos for completion — don't feel obligated to photograph every type
- Certain relic items have unique designs visible in Link's hands when held, making them fun for player-perspective screenshots
