Amber Farming Guide — Locations, Uses & Bulk Selling
Amber Farming Guide
Amber is the most common gem in Tears of the Kingdom — it drops from nearly every ore node in Hyrule. At 10 Rupees each it's low value per unit, but it drops in huge quantities and is used for several armor upgrades. Understanding when to sell and when to save Amber is the key to managing your gem inventory efficiently.
What Amber Is Used For
| Use | Amount Required | |-----|----------------| | Zora Armor upgrade (1★) | 3× Amber | | Zora Armor upgrade (2★) | 5× Amber | | Hylian Set upgrade (1★) | 2× Amber per piece | | Soldier Set upgrade (1★) | 3× Amber per piece | | Sell at shops | 10 Rupees each (bulk value) | | Fuse to weapons | +earth damage (cosmetic) |
Despite its low sell price, Amber is consumed in large quantities for early Great Fairy upgrades. Save your first 30-50 Amber before selling any.
Where Amber Drops
Amber is the most common ore drop — it falls from virtually every ore node in the game. There's no "best" region for Amber specifically; simply mine any ore node cluster and you'll accumulate it naturally.
Ore node dense areas:
- Eldin Canyon — rocky terrain generates dozens of nodes
- Akkala Highlands — cliff faces covered in ore
- Lanayru Mountain — steady gem deposits with Amber as primary drop
- Hyrule Ridge — central location, most accessible ore field
- Depths — purple ore nodes drop Amber at higher rates but also more valuable gems
Bulk Selling Strategy
Since Amber is a byproduct of all ore mining, you'll accumulate large stockpiles naturally. Selling strategy:
- Keep 50 Amber in reserve for Great Fairy upgrade queue
- Sell everything above 50 to Beedle at any stable (10R each, no travel needed)
- Reassess at 2★ Great Fairy threshold — mid-game Amber usage drops significantly
At 50 Amber over your reserve → 500 Rupees instant sale. Low individual value but high volume makes this a consistent passive income stream.
Amber vs. Other Gems — Priority
| Priority | Gem | Keep / Sell | |----------|-----|------------| | 1st | Diamond | Keep all until endgame upgrades done | | 2nd | Sapphire | Keep until ice armor upgrades done | | 3rd | Ruby | Keep until fire armor upgrades done | | 4th | Topaz | Keep until Rubber Set 4★ done | | 5th | Opal | Keep until water armor done | | 6th | Amber | Keep 50, sell everything else |
Amber is last priority for hoarding. Once your early Great Fairy upgrades are done, sell freely.
Best Cave Farming Routes
Caves concentrate ore nodes in enclosed spaces — no rain interruption, dense spawn clusters, and Bubbulfrogs that drop materials along the same route.
| Cave | Region | Ore Nodes | Coordinates | Notes | |------|--------|-----------|-------------|-------| | Eldin Canyon Caves | Eldin | 8–12 | ~1800, 1200 | Fire-resistant armor needed on lower floors | | Akkala Highlands Caves | Akkala | 6–10 | ~3500, 1800 | Safe temperature, easy access from Tarrey Town | | Lanayru Mountain Cave | Lanayru | 7–9 | ~3600, -1100 | Amber + Opal common, occasional Sapphire | | Hyrule Ridge Caves | Hyrule Ridge | 5–8 | ~-1200, 1400 | Central location, multiple cave entrances | | Depths — Central Mine | Depths | 10–15 | ~-400, -2800 | Gloom prep required, Amber + higher gem mix |
Cave farming loop (Akkala → Lanayru → Eldin): This triangle covers three high-density cave clusters in a single exploration run. Fast travel between the Tarrey Town shrine, Lanayru Promenade, and Eldin Skyview Tower as your loop anchors.
Ore Node Respawn Timing
Ore nodes in TotK respawn on a Blood Moon cycle — approximately every 7 real-time days of gameplay or whenever a Blood Moon triggers. Key respawn facts:
- Blood Moon triggers: Auto-triggered when enemies and nodes across the game hit density thresholds — happens naturally every few play sessions
- Forcing respawn: Playing actively (combat, shrine completion, exploring new zones) triggers Blood Moons faster than passive farming
- Depths ore: Depths nodes may respawn on a different cycle from surface nodes — treat them as a separate mining run
Ore node density notes:
- Eldin Canyon: 15–20 visible nodes on the canyon walls between Goron City and the lower approach — the single highest surface density in the game
- Akkala Highlands cliff faces: nodes cluster on exposed rock walls at 1,400–1,800m elevation band
- Hyrule Ridge central plateau: nodes spread across open terrain, easier to spot from elevation
Depths Amber Farming
The Depths contain purple luminous ore nodes — a separate ore type that drops both common gems (Amber, Opal) and rare gems (Ruby, Sapphire, Diamond) at higher rates than surface nodes.
Depths ore strategy:
- Equip Brightbloom Seeds — illuminate nodes before mining
- Each purple node typically yields 2–4 Amber + 1–2 higher gems
- Depths nodes are more valuable per strike than surface nodes
- The Central Depths zone (below Hyrule Field) has the highest ore concentration
Risk vs. reward: The Gloom approach cost is real — bring Sunny meals. But a full Central Depths ore run yields 30–50 Amber plus 8–15 mixed gems per run vs. 15–25 Amber for a surface Eldin run.
Hagie vs. Beedle — Selling Amber
| Seller | Amber Price | Worth the Trip? | |--------|-------------|-----------------| | Beedle (stables) | 10R each | Yes — zero travel cost | | Hagie (Tarrey Town) | 30R each | Yes if nearby — 3x markup | | General shops | 10R each | No advantage over Beedle |
Tarrey Town math: Selling 100 Amber to Hagie vs. Beedle = 3,000R vs. 1,000R. The +2,000 rupee difference is worth a dedicated Tarrey Town sell trip whenever your Amber stockpile clears 50+ units above reserve.
Tips
- Don't stress about Amber — you'll naturally accumulate hundreds through normal play.
- Beedle pays full price — no need to travel to shops. Sell surplus every time you visit a stable.
- Hagie (Tarrey Town) pays 30R — three times Beedle's rate. If you're carrying 100+ Amber, make the Tarrey Town trip.
- Amber fused to a weapon creates a dirt/earth effect — no significant damage boost. Don't waste it on fusing.
- Mine in caves for faster Amber accumulation — caves concentrate ore nodes in enclosed spaces without weather interruption.
- Keep 50 as a rolling reserve — early and mid-game Great Fairy upgrade queues consume Amber in batches of 15–25 per armor set. Having a reserve prevents upgrade stalls when a new set comes online.
- Blood Moon is your friend — don't delay trigger. Active play sessions bring Blood Moons faster, resetting all your mined nodes for another run.
Targeted Amber Farming Routes
For players who specifically need Amber bulk quickly (rushing Great Fairy upgrades):
Eldin Canyon Fast Route
The cliff faces southeast of Death Mountain and the rock formations east of Goron City contain one of the highest ore node densities in Hyrule's surface. A 10-minute loop yields:
- 25-40 Amber (primary drop)
- 8-12 Flint (secondary)
- 2-5 Opal (occasional)
- 1-2 Luminous Stone (rare)
Route: Fast travel to Eldin Canyon Skyview Tower → glide south along canyon walls hitting ore nodes → loop back north via the road → repeat
Caves for Concentrated Farming
Caves concentrate ore nodes in enclosed areas without weather interrupting the run:
| Cave | Location | Amber Yield | Notes | |------|----------|-------------|-------| | Lindor's Brow Cave | Northwest Hyrule | 8-12 per visit | Mostly surface nodes | | Deplian Badlands Cave | Eldin region | 10-15 per visit | Mix of Amber and Luminous | | Crenel Hills Cave | Central Hyrule Ridge | 6-8 per visit | Fast to complete | | Ancient Columns Cave | Akkala | 8-12 per visit | Near Tarrey Town fast travel |
Completing each cave on your path as you explore naturally is more efficient than targeted Amber routes — the cave nodes are concentrated, sheltered from rain (which interrupts outdoor ore breaking), and frequently contain bonus chests.
Depths Amber — Higher Yield, Higher Risk
Depths ore nodes (purple, pulsing) drop gems at notably higher rates than surface nodes. The trade-off:
- Each Depths ore node has roughly 1.5× the gem yield of a surface node
- Gloom damage is a constant risk
- You need a portable pot for emergency healing
Recommended Depths zones for Amber:
- Hyrule Ridge Depths — directly under the surface Ridge area, dense ore
- Lanayru Depths — along the major deposit veins near Lanayru Lightroot
- Necluda Depths — southeastern sector, ore deposits mixed with Zonaite for bonus Depths value
Great Fairy Upgrade Planning — Amber Budget
Before selling any Amber, audit which Great Fairy upgrades you want:
| Set | 1★ Amber Cost | 2★ Amber Cost | Total | |-----|--------------|--------------|-------| | Hylian Set (3 pieces) | 6 total | 12 total | 18 | | Zora Set (3 pieces) | 9 total | 15 total | 24 | | Soldier Set (3 pieces) | 9 total | 15 total | 24 | | Champion's Leathers | 3 | 5 | 8 | | Amber Earrings | 10 | 20 | 30 |
Amber Earrings are the largest single-upgrade consumer — 30 Amber for 2 stars. The earrings boost elemental defense rather than physical defense, making them a niche choice. Skip if defense is not your priority.
Planning recommendation: Budget 60 Amber before selling anything. This covers most starter upgrades across 2-3 armor sets at 1★.
Amber Uses Beyond Upgrades
Fusing Amber to Weapons
Fusing Amber to a weapon or shield provides cosmetic earth-tone particle effects and a very small ATK bonus (+1-2). It's not competitive with combat-effective fuse materials. Don't fuse Amber — sell it.
Amber Earrings Armor Piece
The Amber Earrings are a standalone armor piece (not a set) that grant bonus elemental resistance. Upgrading them requires Amber in bulk:
| Level | Requirement | |-------|------------| | Base | Find from chest or purchase | | 1★ | 10 Amber | | 2★ | 20 Amber + 5 Opal | | 3★ | 10 Amber + 3 Ruby + 3 Sapphire | | 4★ | 20 Amber + 3 Diamond |
The 4★ Amber Earrings provide significant elemental resist — viable for players building an all-environment-resistance loadout, though the Diamond cost at 4★ competes with other endgame upgrade priorities.
Ore Node Respawn Schedule
Ore nodes respawn on Blood Moon — the same Blood Moon cycle that respawns enemies and refills certain materials. If you've cleared a good ore zone and want to farm it again, wait for the next Blood Moon (typically every 2-7 in-game days, or approximately every 2-3 real-time hours of active play).
Blood Moon ore-farm loop:
- Clear an ore-dense zone completely (Eldin Canyon or cave of choice)
- Continue playing normally — fight enemies, do quests, explore
- When Blood Moon triggers mid-session, all ore nodes in previously cleared zones refill
- Return to your clearing zone for a full second harvest
Players who combine Lynel farming (for weapons) with ore farming in the Blood Moon cycle can efficiently maximize both loot types per session.
