Battle Talus — Armed Stone Giants

Battle Talus are a rare variant of the Stone Talus miniboss that carry weapons, shields, and armor strapped to their rocky bodies. Unlike standard Talus enemies, Battle Talus require a different approach: you want to steal their equipment before destroying them. Found mostly in the Depths and a handful of overworld locations, Battle Talus are one of the best sources of powerful weapons in the mid-game.

Battle Talus vs. Standard Talus

| Feature | Standard Talus | Battle Talus | |---------|---------------|--------------| | Ore node location | Top of body | Top of body (same) | | Loot drops | Ore + flint | Ore + weapons/armor | | Equipment on body | None | Weapons, shields, bows | | Difficulty | Low | Medium | | Locations | Overworld everywhere | Depths + rare overworld |

The critical difference: Battle Talus have weapons strapped to their bodies that you can steal using Ultrahand before dealing the killing blow. If you destroy the Talus normally, the weapons on its body get destroyed with it.

How to Steal Battle Talus Weapons

  1. Climb onto the Talus from behind using a jump + glide approach
  2. Grab weapons with Ultrahand while standing on the Talus body
  3. Throw the weapons off to the side — aim away from the Talus toward open ground
  4. Drop off the Talus, collect the weapons from the ground
  5. Return to finish the fight — hit the ore node on top to deal damage

This grab-and-throw method is how you loot the Battle Talus without losing the gear. The window is short — the Talus will try to shake you off — so have Ultrahand ready immediately after mounting.

What Weapons Do Battle Talus Carry?

Battle Talus carry a rotating pool of weapons scaled to your progression:

  • Early game: Soldier Broadswords, Traveler's Shields, Wooden Bows
  • Mid game: Royal Claymores, Knight's Shields, Soldier Bows
  • Late game / Depths: Royal Guards equipment, Silverscale Spear, Eightfold Blades
  • Depths variants: Sometimes carry Zonaite weapons or Construct-Fused gear

The exact weapons vary by location and spawn timing. Depths Battle Talus tend to carry stronger loot than overworld variants.

Ore Node Weak Point

Like all Talus enemies, the Battle Talus has an ore node on top of its body. This is its only effective weak point:

  • Hit the ore node to deal full damage — any weapon type works
  • Regular body hits deal almost zero damage
  • Bombs, arrows, and melee all work once you're on top
  • The ore node glows slightly — look for the dark crystalline protrusion on the highest point of the body

Fastest kill method: Climb onto the Talus, use a two-handed weapon's charged spin attack directly on the ore node. Three or four solid hits will destroy most Battle Talus. Use Flurry Rush windows during the Talus's brief recovery phases.

Battle Talus Locations — Overworld

| Location | Coordinates | Notes | |----------|-------------|-------| | Eldin Canyon (north of Death Mountain) | Near (1891, 2210, 380) | Often carries Royal Claymore | | Akkala Highlands | Near (3120, 1880, 240) | Mid-tier weapon loot | | West Necluda Hills | Near (1540, -1860, 180) | Good early discovery target | | Gerudo Highlands | Near (-3440, 1220, 850) | Cold region — bring warmth | | Faron Grasslands | Near (-0280, -2800, 120) | Easy access, good mid-game loot |

Battle Talus Locations — Depths

The Depths has a higher concentration of Battle Talus than the overworld. Look near:

  • Depths East — northeast of Minetak Lightroot
  • Depths Eldin — below Death Mountain, near Yomizuk Lightroot
  • Akkala Depths — northwest of Rasitakiwak Lightroot
  • Faron Depths — south of Minetak, near Sisuaabik Lightroot

Depths Battle Talus spawn on elevated rock formations. Bring a Brightbloom Seed cluster or a Brightbloom-tipped arrow to illuminate the ore node in low light.

Combat Tips

  • Sneaky approach: Crouch near the Talus before it activates. You can often grab the weapons before it even wakes up.
  • Bomb arrows on the node are the fastest way to deal damage once weapons are stolen.
  • Shield parry against rock throws — the rock projectile can be deflected with a well-timed shield bash.
  • Stay mobile: The Talus's ground-slam AoE has a large radius but is easy to dodge backward.
  • Sage ability synergy: Yunobo's Rock Roar deals bonus damage against stone enemies and stuns the Talus briefly when aimed at the ore node.

Loot Summary

| Loot | Source | |------|--------| | Weapons (stolen via Ultrahand) | Strapped to Talus body | | Flint | Ore node destruction | | Amber + Opal | Random ore drops | | Diamonds (rare) | Rare ore node reward, Depths variants | | Zonai Devices (rare) | Depths variants only |

Battle Talus are among the most efficient mid-game weapon farms when visited on a route with multiple spawn points. Plan a route through the Depths east sector to chain multiple encounters in a single run.
