Colgera Boss Guide — Destroying the Wind Temple Ice Worm

Colgera is the boss of the Wind Temple — a colossal icy centipede that corkscrews through the aerial arena in wide sweeping loops. The entire fight takes place in mid-air. You must stay airborne using updrafts and Tulin's Gust while shooting Colgera's three glowing weak points from paraglider bullet-time.

Quick Stats

| Stat | Value | |------|-------| | Location | Wind Temple Sanctum, Hebra Sky | | Element | Ice | | Weakness | Fire Arrows | | Phases | 2 | | Recommended Hearts | 6+ | | Sage Required | Tulin (Wind) |

Recommended Gear

  • Fire Arrows (20+) — deal bonus damage AND melt Colgera's ice armor in Phase 2. Primary DPS source
  • Strong multi-shot bow — Forest Dweller's Bow (3-shot) or Savage Lynel Bow (5-shot) trivializes this fight
  • Bomb Arrow backup — works against all weak points with high burst damage per shot
  • Snowquill Armor (2+ pieces) — the arena is in the frigid Hebra sky; cold damage ticks if unprotected
  • Stamina food — the paraglider drifts constantly; stamina restores are valuable

Phase 1 — Aerial Interception

How the Fight Works

Colgera descends through the arena in wide horizontal circles, alternating between two patterns:

  1. Standard loop — flies in a predictable arc at consistent altitude, pausing briefly
  2. Dive pattern — drops steeply toward the arena floor and resurfaces on the far side

The arena has four large updraft columns at the cardinal points. You must use these to stay airborne — the floor is coated in ice spikes and landing on it deals damage.

Weak Points

Colgera has three glowing blue ice patches on its underbelly — one on the head segment, one near the midsection, and one near the tail. All three must be hit to end a damage phase.

The attack sequence:

  1. Use an updraft to gain altitude above Colgera's flight path
  2. Open your paraglider to enter bullet-time
  3. Aim downward at the underbelly as Colgera passes beneath you
  4. Shoot all three weak points (one arrow each if you're precise — multi-shot bows hit multiple at once)
  5. All three weak points destroyed → Colgera crashes and is vulnerable for a moment

Note: You cannot effectively hit weak points unless Colgera is below you. Always position above its flight path before it passes.

Avoiding Ice Spikes

When Colgera dives, it erupts from the arena floor with a spray of ice spikes tracking your position. The spikes arc outward from the emergence point — dodge laterally (not straight up or down) to avoid them. If you see Colgera diving, move immediately to one of the arena's edge updrafts.

Phase 2 — Accelerated Pattern

At approximately 50% health, Colgera's weak points become encased in a thicker layer of ice. Visual cue: the glow dims and ice crystals surround each weak point.

What changes:

  • Speed increases by roughly 25% — tighter timing window on bullet-time shots
  • Ice spike eruption comes faster after each dive
  • Fire Arrows now strip the ice casing before dealing damage — each fire arrow melts the casing on one weak point; a second fire arrow then deals the actual damage

Optimal Phase 2 approach:

  1. Pre-aim your bow BEFORE Colgera reaches your position
  2. First arrow (fire): strips ice casing
  3. Second arrow (fire): damage
  4. Multi-shot bows solve the two-step problem by hitting both simultaneously

The fastest Phase 2 clear: Savage Lynel Bow with fire arrows — 5 simultaneous shots strip the ice casing AND deal damage in one pass on each weak point.

Tulin's Role in the Fight

Tulin's Gust is invaluable for positioning:

  • Lateral repositioning — if Colgera dives and you're in the wrong spot, Gust sideways to reach the nearest updraft column
  • Altitude extension — when paraglider bullet-time is almost expired, Gust propels you upward, giving you a fresh downward angle before the next pass
  • Emergency save — if you take ice spike damage and fall, Gust can arrest your fall momentum before you hit the floor

Tulin himself shoots arrows at Colgera during the fight. His damage contribution is minor but consistent — let him contribute while you focus the weak points.

Winning in Under 2 Minutes

For speed (and maximum loot collection before the fight ends):

  1. Use the Eldin Canyon Skyview Tower launch trick before entering the sanctum — arrive with 40+ arrows
  2. Equip Savage Lynel Bow + Fire Arrows
  3. Phase 1: Three passes = three weak point triplets destroyed = phase transition
  4. Phase 2: Same approach — the Lynel bow strips and damages simultaneously
  5. Total fight time: 90–120 seconds with optimal gear

Rewards

  • Heart Container — +1 maximum heart
  • Tulin's Vow — Sage of Wind companion ability (permanent Gust outside temple)
  • Blizzard lifted — Rito Village weather normalizes, shops and NPCs fully unlock

Colgera Lore

Colgera is one of Ganondorf's Phantom manifestations — an entity of pure Gloom that took the form of an ancient ice centipede to corrupt the Wind Temple and freeze the mechanisms controlling the Hebra blizzard. It is not a natural creature but a construct of the Demon King's malice. Unlike biological bosses, Colgera has no ecology — it exists solely to guard the corrupted turbines. When destroyed, the concentrated Gloom dissipates, releasing its hold on the temple's wind mechanisms instantly.
