Horse Gear Guide — Saddles, Bridles, and Customization

Horses in Tears of the Kingdom can be fully customized with saddles and bridles unlocked through the Pony Points stable reward system. Horse gear is cosmetic — it does not affect stats — but certain gear sets have unique visual appeal, and the Giant's Bridle is required for the Giant Horse.

How to Equip Horse Gear

All horse gear is applied at stables by speaking to the stable attendant:

  1. Approach a stable and speak to the attendant inside
  2. Select "I want to change my horse's gear"
  3. Choose the registered horse you want to customize
  4. Select a saddle and a bridle from your unlocked collection
  5. Changes are free and can be made at any stable

You must have the horse registered at a stable before you can change its gear. Unregistered wild horses cannot be customized.

What Are Pony Points?

Pony Points are the stable currency earned by interacting with the stable system. They accumulate across all stables — points earned at any stable count toward your total.

Ways to earn Pony Points: | Action | Points Earned | |--------|--------------| | Stay the night at a stable | 1 point | | Register a new horse | 1 point | | Groom a registered horse (brush) | 1 point per horse per day | | Feed an apple to a registered horse | 1 point per horse per day | | Complete a stable mini-quest | 3–5 points | | Talk to stable NPCs (some give points) | 1 point |

Maximum efficiency: Register 5 horses, groom and feed all 5 daily at the same stable = up to 10+ points per day.

All Saddles

Traveler's Saddle

  • Pony Points Required: 2
  • Appearance: Simple brown leather saddle with basic strap work — the functional everyday saddle
  • Best Paired With: Traveler's Bridle (matching set)
  • Notes: The first saddle unlocked. Unpretentious but clean — a good default for most horses.

Patterned Saddle

  • Pony Points Required: 20
  • Appearance: A decorated saddle with floral embroidery patterns stitched into warm-toned leather
  • Best Paired With: Patterned Bridle (15 points)
  • Notes: Popular among players who favor aesthetic customization. The embroidery detail is visible on closer inspection. Good match for the Roan Pinto and Palomino horses visually.

Royal Saddle

  • Pony Points Required: 40
  • Appearance: Deep blue velvet saddle pad with golden trim and the Royal Hyrule crest embossed on the side panel
  • Best Paired With: Royal Bridle (30 points)
  • Notes: The regal choice — matches the Royal White Stallion perfectly. The gold crest detail is crisp and impressive. A prestige saddle for players who want their horse to look like Hyrule royalty.

Monster Saddle

  • Pony Points Required: 60
  • Appearance: Crude dark leather adorned with monster bone carvings and Bokoblin fang decorations
  • Best Paired With: Monster Bridle (50 points)
  • Notes: An irreverent, chaotic design. Pairs well with the Black Tobiano or any dark horse for a monster-hunter aesthetic. The bone carvings are surprisingly detailed.

Towing Harness

  • Pony Points Required: 80
  • Appearance: A practical working harness with straps and attachment points for pulling objects or carts
  • Best Paired With: Any bridle
  • Notes: Unique in the catalog — the Towing Harness is a functional harness rather than a traditional saddle pad. It changes the horse's silhouette significantly. Equip it when building carts or pulling large objects with Ultrahand for thematic consistency.

Ancient Saddle

  • Pony Points Required: 150
  • Appearance: Blue-glowing Zonai-tech saddle with geometric Zonai energy patterns and ancient script
  • Best Paired With: Ancient Bridle (100 points)
  • Notes: A must-have for Zonai-themed builds. The glowing blue circuits match the Zonai device aesthetic. Equip it on any blue roan or silver horse for a high-tech ancient appearance. One of the most visually striking saddles in the game.

Extravagant Saddle

  • Pony Points Required: 250
  • Appearance: Over-the-top golden saddle with jewel inlays, tassels, and layered decorative panels — maximum opulence
  • Best Paired With: Extravagant Bridle (200 points)
  • Notes: The most ostentatiously decorated saddle in TotK. Pairs with the Royal White Stallion or Champagne horse for maximum visual impact. If you want to look rich, this is the gear.

Knight's Saddle

  • Pony Points Required: 350
  • Appearance: Heavy dark steel saddle with Hylian Knight heraldry and battle-worn detailing
  • Best Paired With: Knight's Bridle (300 points)
  • Notes: The most "war horse" of the saddles. Matches the Iron Gray and Dark Bay horses for a battlefield aesthetic. The heraldry detail references the Hylian Knights from the Great Calamity era.

Giant's Saddle

  • Pony Points Required: 450
  • Appearance: An oversized reinforced saddle scaled for the Giant Horse — too large for normal horses
  • Best Paired With: Giant's Bridle (400 points)
  • Notes: Required for the Giant Horse — normal saddles cannot fit the Giant Horse's frame. This is the only saddle that can be equipped on the Giant Horse. Cosmetically, it's a massive, heavily-reinforced dark saddle that matches the Giant Horse's imposing scale.

All Bridles

Traveler's Bridle

  • Pony Points Required: 1
  • Appearance: Basic brown leather bridle — functional and minimal
  • Best Paired With: Traveler's Saddle
  • Notes: The starting bridle. Simple and clean. Works for any horse.

Patterned Bridle

  • Pony Points Required: 15
  • Appearance: Floral-embroidered bridle matching the Patterned Saddle's design language
  • Best Paired With: Patterned Saddle

Royal Bridle

  • Pony Points Required: 30
  • Appearance: Blue velvet and gold trim bridle with the Royal Hyrule crest on the cheek piece
  • Best Paired With: Royal Saddle
  • Notes: Pairs with the Royal White Stallion for the full ceremonial Hyrule mount appearance.

Monster Bridle

  • Pony Points Required: 50
  • Appearance: Bone-and-fang decorated dark leather bridle with crude monster-craft aesthetics
  • Best Paired With: Monster Saddle

Ancient Bridle

  • Pony Points Required: 100
  • Appearance: Blue Zonai energy bridle with circuit patterns flowing from the headstall to the noseband
  • Best Paired With: Ancient Saddle
  • Notes: The most tech-forward bridle. The glowing blue circuits are the most distinctive visual element of any bridle in the game.

Extravagant Bridle

  • Pony Points Required: 200
  • Appearance: Gold-inlaid bridle with jewel studs, tassels, and elaborate cheek-piece filigree
  • Best Paired With: Extravagant Saddle
  • Notes: The most decorated bridle. Maximum visual luxury.

Knight's Bridle

  • Pony Points Required: 300
  • Appearance: Dark steel headstall with Hylian Knight heraldry plaque on the forehead band
  • Best Paired With: Knight's Saddle
  • Notes: Battle-worn dark steel aesthetic — the most serious-looking bridle.

Giant's Bridle

  • Pony Points Required: 400
  • Appearance: An oversized reinforced bridle scaled to fit the Giant Horse's massive head
  • Best Paired With: Giant's Saddle
  • Notes: Required for the Giant Horse. Cannot be equipped on normal-sized horses. The Giant's Bridle is a prerequisite for properly housing and managing the Giant Horse at a stable.

Efficient Pony Points Farming

To unlock all gear (including the Horse God Paraglider Fabric at 500 points), follow this strategy:

Daily routine:

  1. Register 5 unique horses at one stable (5 one-time registration points)
  2. Each day: groom all 5 horses (5 points) + feed apples to all 5 (5 points) = 10 points/day
  3. Sleep at the stable (1 point) = 11 points/day maximum from a stable with 5 horses

Time to 500 points: Approximately 46 in-game days (about 15–20 real-world hours if you're playing efficiently)

Shortcut: Find stable mini-quests (3–5 points each) and travel between all stables to stack registration bonuses faster.

Notes

  • Horse gear does not affect horse stats (speed, pull, stamina)
  • Gear can be changed freely at any stable at no cost
  • The Giant's Saddle and Giant's Bridle are locked — they cannot be equipped on any horse except the Giant Horse
  • Malanya (the Horse God) does not require specific gear to revive horses
  • After unlocking gear, it is available at all stables — you don't need to return to the specific stable where you earned the points
