Hyrule Field Guide — Central Hyrule Hub

Hyrule Field is the vast central plain connecting every region in Hyrule. It's where you'll spend most of your travel time, where the largest enemy camps are, and where Lookout Landing — the game's main hub — sits. This guide covers everything in Central Hyrule worth knowing.

Lookout Landing — Main Hub

Location: Central Hyrule, southwest of Hyrule Castle

Lookout Landing is TotK's primary base of operations:

Services at Lookout Landing

  • Purah's Lab: Key story upgrades (Camera, Sensor, Hero's Path, Travel Medallion quest start)
  • Armorer: Sells early-game armor (Hylian Shield is NOT here — see Hyrule Castle)
  • Vendor: Basic food ingredients + arrows
  • Skyview Tower: Central Hyrule tower — first one you unlock, activates the map
  • Fast travel: Lookout Landing Skyview Tower shrine = permanent fast travel to the hub

Early-Game Priority from Lookout Landing

  1. Activate the Skyview Tower (unlocks map, required for story)
  2. Speak with Purah — starts the Camera and Sensor upgrade chain
  3. Buy arrows from the vendor (stock up here before exploring)
  4. Use the cooking pot before heading out

Hyrule Field Layout

The field radiates outward from Lookout Landing in all directions:

North: Hyrule Castle → Eldin/Death Mountain approaches South: Faron entrance → Dueling Peaks → East Necluda road East: Wetland Stable → Kakariko → Necluda West: Gerudo Canyon → Tabantha → Rito Village direction Northeast: Zora's Domain road (via Lanayru promenade) Northwest: Eldin/Akkala approach road

Enemy Camps — Hyrule Field

Central Hyrule has some of the game's largest enemy camps:

Bokoblin Great Skull Fort (North Field)

  • Massive three-level skull fortress north of Lookout Landing
  • Silver Bokoblin + Blue Bokoblin mix at normal difficulty
  • Drops: Bokoblin Horns, Fangs, Guts, Spears
  • Respawns on Blood Moon — one of the best early-game Bokoblin farming spots

Lizalfos Tower Camps (East Field)

  • Several elevated towers with Lizalfos archers
  • Electric Lizalfos at some towers — use wooden weapons
  • Arrow farming: Lizalfos archers drop arrows on death. Good early arrow source.

Moblin Outposts (Southwest Field)

  • Mid-tier Moblin camps with weapon drops
  • Moblins carry large clubs — good Fuse material sources (high base damage when fused)
  • Black Moblin tier appears at normal game progression

Gloom Camp (Near Castle)

  • Gloom-infested area near Hyrule Castle's south approach
  • Gloom Hands patrol this zone — see Minibosses Guide
  • High-tier weapon drops from Gloom enemies

Stables in Hyrule Field

Three stables serve Central Hyrule:

Riverside Stable

Location: Southwest field, near the Hyrule/Gerudo road

  • Standard services (horse, inn, cooking)
  • Pony Points available
  • Penn quest encounter (Great Fairy chain trigger)

Wetland Stable

Location: East field, on the road to Kakariko

  • Horse boarding + inn
  • Near the Lanayru approach road
  • Side quest start: local monster hunt

New Serenne Stable

Location: Northwest field, near Eldin/Tabantha approach

  • Remote stable — useful if exploring northwest without fast travel
  • Korok Seeds nearby on the road north

Shrines — Central Hyrule

Central Hyrule has moderate shrine density — important to unlock for the fast travel network:

Key shrines:

  • Lookout Landing Skyview Tower shrine (auto-unlocked with tower)
  • In Isa Shrine (Hyrule Field — south of castle)
  • Kadaunar Shrine (west field — near Gerudo road)
  • Jiukoum Shrine (east field — Lanayru border)

With Sensor+ set to Shrine, you'll detect these as you cross the field.

Korok Seeds — Field Circuit

The open field has Koroks scattered across predictable locations:

Types in Hyrule Field:

  • Rock lifts: Small rocks half-buried in dirt — lift with Ultrahand for the Korok underneath
  • Balloon Koroks: Gold sparkle rising from the ground — shoot with arrow
  • Offering plates: Place a rock or item on a matching plate to trigger the Korok
  • Race Koroks: Two leaf piles — reach the second one fast enough after touching the first

A sweep of the field from Lookout Landing outward hits 8-10 Koroks within walking distance.

Underground Access — Central Hyrule Depths

Central Hyrule has multiple depths entrances:

Chasms in Hyrule Field:

  • Hyrule Field Chasm (south of castle) — primary central Depths entrance
  • Lake Hylia Chasm — south field access point
  • Eldin Chasm (north field) — connects to Eldin Depths below

Each chasm drops you into the Depths directly below. The Depths mirror map means the Depths below Central Hyrule are also the most central and accessible.

Note: Gloom exposure is immediate on entering the Depths without Sundelion preparation. Have Sundelion meals or Brightbloom Seeds ready.

Hyrule Castle (North of Field)

Hyrule Castle sits at the north end of Hyrule Field. See Hyrule Castle Guide for full coverage.

Approaching from the field:

  • North road from Lookout Landing leads directly to the castle
  • Gloom presence increases as you approach
  • Castle moat is navigable by swimming or paragliding across

Quick Tips

  • Lookout Landing first — before exploring the field, unlock everything at Lookout Landing. Camera, Sensor, and arrows from the vendor should all happen on your first visit.
  • Field = fast travel network — every shrine you find in Hyrule Field is a fast travel node connecting the hub to the edges of the map. Prioritize shrine activation here.
  • Blood Moon camp loop — the Skull Fort + Moblin camp + Lizalfos towers reset on Blood Moon. Running this triangle from Lookout Landing is one of the best early-game weapon farming loops.
  • Hyrule Castle visible from field — you can see Hyrule Castle's position from most of the field. Use it as a navigation landmark when your map isn't open.
  • Depths access is everywhere — don't ignore the chasms in the field. The Central Hyrule Depths section has some of the most accessible Lightroot clusters and Zonaite deposits.
