Mineru Guide — Sage of Spirit, Spirit Temple & Companion Mechanics in TotK
Mineru — The Sage of Spirit and Her Mechanical Construct
Mineru is the fifth and final Sage of Tears of the Kingdom — a Zonai researcher from the ancient era who left behind a mechanical body for Link to pilot. Unlike the other four Sages, Mineru cannot be recruited during Regional Phenomena. She is found deep in the Spirit Temple, hidden in the Depths, and requires completing a multi-step questline before her companion ability unlocks.
Who Is Mineru?
Mineru was Rauru's elder sister and the greatest Zonai sage of the ancient era. A brilliant engineer obsessed with preserving life beyond the body's natural limit, she used a Secret Stone to bind her spirit to a mechanical shell — Mineru's Construct — knowing her physical form would not survive to meet Link in the present day. Her construct lies dormant in the Depths until Link assembles the missing parts and reactivates it.
Mineru is voiced with quiet gravity and carries the weight of 10,000 years of waiting. Her relationship with Rauru and Sonia provides critical lore context for the Imprisoning War.
Prerequisites
Before you can begin the Mineru questline:
- Complete the Depths Lightroot Survey side adventure (or at minimum, explore the Abandoned Central Mine region of the Depths)
- Have the camera function upgraded by Robbie at the Hateno Lab so you can take photos for compendium entries (optional but helpful for orientation)
- Bring strong Gloom-resistant food — the Spirit Temple area is Gloom-heavy
- Have at least 8–10 hearts and strong fused weapons before attempting the Spirit Temple
Finding Mineru's Construct: The Pre-Temple Questline
The Spirit Temple is not accessed like the other four temples. It requires a multi-step setup across the Depths.
Step 1 — Reach the Abandoned Central Mine
Drop into the Hyrule Castle Depths chasm (the large chasm beneath Hyrule Castle, accessible from multiple entry points in Central Hyrule). Navigate south-southwest through the Depths using Brightbloom Seeds for light. The Abandoned Central Mine is the large mechanized structure you will see glowing in the darkness.
Activate the Lightroot near the Mine for a permanent warp point.
Step 2 — Speak to Mineru's Spirit
Inside the Abandoned Central Mine, find a glowing sphere of light floating near the central structure. This is Mineru's spirit — the ghost of the ancient Sage. She explains that her Construct body is assembled from five parts scattered across the Depths, and asks for Link's help in reassembling it.
She marks the five part locations on your map.
Step 3 — Collect the Five Construct Parts
The five parts are guarded by large Flux Construct and Captain Construct enemies in the surrounding Depths regions:
| Part | Location | Guardian | |------|----------|----------| | Right Arm | Gleeok Depths (east of Central Mine) | Captain Construct IV | | Left Arm | Lanayru Depths (northeast) | Flux Construct III | | Right Leg | Eldin Depths (north) | Captain Construct IV | | Left Leg | Faron Depths (south) | Flux Construct III | | Head Core | Central Mine itself | Defeat surrounding Constructs |
Each part is inside a locked chest or guarded Construct room. Defeat the guardian, open the chest, and the part is added to your quest inventory automatically.
Tip: Bring 5–6 strong fused weapons per part — the Construct guardians are aggressive and hit hard in the Depths where Gloom damage can reduce your max hearts.
Step 4 — Return All Parts to the Mine
Once all five parts are collected, return to the Abandoned Central Mine and place each part at the designated installation points on the Construct's body. Mineru's spirit narrates the assembly in brief emotional lines. When the final part locks in, the Spirit Temple rises from the Depths floor, accessible through a large door in the Mine's north wall.
Spirit Temple Walkthrough
The Spirit Temple is a mechanical Zonai fortress that uses Mineru's Construct as the primary puzzle-solving tool. Link pilots the Construct for most of the dungeon.
Entering the Temple
Interact with the Construct at the door and Link climbs inside. The Construct functions as a walking battle mech:
- A button: Jump (the Construct can jump over obstacles)
- Y button: Swing the attached arm weapon
- ZL/ZR: Aim and fire built-in bow or use current shoulder-mounted device
- L button: Swap equipped device (fan, shock emitter, flame emitter depending on what you've attached)
The Construct does NOT consume stamina or regular weapon durability. Its "health" is separate from Link's — when the Construct takes too much damage it ejects Link temporarily.
Dungeon Rooms Overview
Room 1 — Power Core Activation: The Construct needs power. Locate the three Power Terminals scattered around the first floor. Each requires activating a pressure plate, routing a water flow with Ultrahand, or redirecting a beam of light using mirrors. The Construct's height advantage lets it reach high terminals Link alone cannot.
Room 2 — The Flux Gate: A large magnetic door requires passing a metal cube through a series of rotating magnetic platforms. Use Ultrahand (accessible from outside the Construct) to guide the cube while the Construct holds the final gate open. Time the cube movement with the platform rotations.
Room 3 — Lava Crossing: The Spirit Temple's middle section features lava channels and platforms. The Construct is fireproof — Link inside takes no fire damage. Navigate across using the Construct's jump ability while avoiding lava geysers that erupt on a timed cycle (roughly every 8 seconds).
Room 4 — The Shock Barrier: A wall of electrical current blocks the path. Find the power conduit on the left side and cut it with the Construct's arm. The shock barrier deactivates. Simple — but the room also contains Captain Constructs as enemies. Dispatch them before cutting the conduit.
Room 5 — Treasure Room: Before the boss door, a side chamber contains the Spirit Temple chest: Zonaite Longsword × 1 and Large Zonai Charge × 3. Use Ultrahand from outside the Construct to open the chest.
Boss: Master Kohga IV
The fourth and final Master Kohga encounter is the Spirit Temple boss. Kohga has a new Construct shell and four attack phases.
Phase 1: Kohga launches spiked balls via magnetic rails. Use the Construct to grab a spiked ball mid-flight and throw it back into Kohga's head. One hit staggers him.
Phase 2: Kohga uses a rotating shield of metal plates. Use Ultrahand to grab one plate and spin it into the gap in his shield, then throw the spiked ball. Timing is key — the gap rotates every 3 seconds.
Phase 3: Kohga levitates above a lava pool. He drops a metallic platform — board it and use the Construct's arm to hit him from above when he descends to attack. Two hits end this phase.
Phase 4: Kohga merges with a giant Construct frame. Grab his glowing head with Ultrahand, rip it off, and throw it at him directly. He becomes vulnerable for 10 seconds — deal maximum damage with the Construct's melee. Repeat twice.
After the fourth defeat, Kohga falls into the Depths one final time. Mineru's spirit thanks Link and formally joins as the fifth Sage.
Mineru's Companion Ability: Mineru's Vow
After the Spirit Temple, Mineru becomes a permanent companion. Her Construct walks alongside Link and her ability is Mineru's Construct (summon the mech body for combat).
How It Works
- Press the Sage bubble for Mineru to summon her Construct in front of Link
- Link climbs inside and pilots it
- The Construct has separate HP from Link — when its HP depletes, Link is ejected
- Construct HP regenerates fully after a Blood Moon or after resting at a Stable
- The Construct has no energy drain — it does not consume the Energy Cell
Mineru's Construct Specs
| Stat | Value | |------|-------| | Base HP | 300 | | Arm damage | ~15 per hit | | Jump height | 2× Link's normal jump | | Fire resistance | Complete | | Gloom resistance | Complete | | Electrical resistance | None (takes shock damage) |
Equipping Zonai Devices to the Construct
The Construct has two shoulder mount slots. You can attach Zonai Devices to these slots using Ultrahand while outside the Construct:
- Flame Emitter: Makes the Construct a fire-breathing weapon — excellent against ice enemies and large groups
- Shock Emitter: Electrical discharge in a wide cone — chains between nearby enemies
- Fan: Gives the Construct limited hover capability (reduces fall damage, provides brief boost)
- Cannon: Long-range projectile bombardment — expensive in Zonaite but devastating
Devices persist between summons. Swap them out at any time using Ultrahand.
Best Uses for Mineru's Construct
Combat: The Construct is the safest tank in the game — pilot it against Lynels, Gloom Hands, and boss encounters where Gloom damage is a risk. The Construct absorbs all damage while Link inside takes none.
Exploration: The Construct's 2× jump height reaches platforms Link cannot scale, especially in shrines and Sky Islands. It is fireproof — walk through lava channels in the Fire Temple and Death Mountain without cooking fireproof meals.
Puzzle Solving: The Construct's height and arm reach can grab items and pull levers inaccessible to Link alone. Combined with Ultrahand, it functions as a second pair of hands in complex shrine builds.
Depths Navigation: The Construct is immune to Gloom and all Gloom-based damage sources in the Depths. Pilot it through Gloom-heavy areas instead of using Sundelion meals.
Mineru Lore Notes
- Mineru is the only Sage who has a direct family connection to Rauru — she is his older sister
- Her Construct body was built over decades using the most advanced Zonai engineering of the ancient era — she intentionally made it powerful enough to matter 10,000 years later
- She refers to Link as "the Hero" throughout their interactions — unlike the younger Sages who learn his name, Mineru maintains formal distance that gradually softens
- Her final line before the endgame credits is widely considered one of TotK's most emotional moments among the fanbase
- Post-credits, Mineru's Construct is left standing in Hyrule as a monument — her spirit finally at rest
Tips and Tricks
- The Construct ejects Link on death but he takes no fall damage from the ejection — use this if you need a quick vertical escape
- Farm Zonaite to keep your Energy Cell full for powering the Construct's mounted devices
- The Construct can Ascend — use it inside cave systems to emerge from roofs in unexpected positions
- After assembling all five parts, immediately activate the Spirit Temple Lightroot before entering — it saves a long travel back if you die
- Mineru's voice lines during the fight against Kohga IV are unique to each phase — listen to them on a first playthrough rather than rushing
Spirit Temple completion time: 45–90 minutes depending on Depths navigation familiarity.
