Ruby Farming Guide

Rubies are fire-element gems that sell for 210 Rupees each and are used in several armor upgrades, particularly fire-resistant and Voe sets. Rubies drop most frequently in volcanic and hot biomes — the Eldin region around Death Mountain is your primary target. This guide covers the fastest farming methods.

What Rubies Are Used For

Unlike Sapphires, Rubies fused to weapons provide genuine fire damage that can ignite enemies and set grass fires — useful for campfire-adjacent combat.

Method 1 — Igneo Talus Farming (Best Method)

Igneo Talus are the fire-type Talus variant found on Death Mountain and in volcanic Depths areas. They are the most reliable Ruby source.

Igneo Talus locations:

Igneo Talus strategy:

• Standard melee doesn't work well — the body is molten and deals burn damage on contact
• Ice Arrows cool the Igneo Talus temporarily, making it safe to climb
• Once cooled, climb to the ore node on top and hit repeatedly
• A Frost weapon (Sapphire-fused or Blizzard Rod) also works for cooling
• Kill drops 1-3 Rubies + Flint + Amber

Farm loop: Two Eldin Canyon Igneo Talus → Blood Moon sleep at Eldin Stable → repeat. Yields 2-6 Rubies per loop.

Method 2 — Death Mountain Ore Nodes

Ore nodes in Eldin have the highest Ruby drop rate of any region. The volcanic rock clusters around Death Mountain crater are the best mining spots.

Best mining routes:

1. Death Mountain Crater Rim — dense ore node field at coordinates (2200, 3300, 700). Requires Flamebreaker Armor or Fireproof Elixir.
2. Eldin Cave System — named caves on Death Mountain's south face have enclosed ore node clusters with no enemies.
3. Goron City approach — rock outcroppings along the main path to Goron City have multiple nodes within 50 meters.

Tools for efficient mining:

• Cobble Crusher (sold at Goron City) — highest ore mining damage, 2-3 hits per node
• Bomb Arrows — chain-detonate multiple nearby nodes simultaneously
• Bomb Flowers — free explosive mining if found in Depths deposits

Method 3 — Treasure Chests

Fixed Ruby chests:

• Death Mountain Peak — chest near the summit meteorite crater
• Eldin Canyon Caves — multiple named caves contain gem chests
• Fire Temple — several treasure chests in the dungeon contain Rubies
• Goron Hot Springs — underwater chest (dive while wearing Flamebreaker)

These are one-time sources. Collect early in the playthrough.

Method 4 — Depths Ore Nodes (Eldin Depths)

The Eldin Depths — directly below Death Mountain — have purple ore nodes with elevated gem drop rates. The biome is hot in Eldin Depths areas, so Flamebreaker Armor carries over as protection.

Look near:

• Daijuji Lightroot — ore fields immediately surrounding the lightroot
• Minetak Lightroot — high concentration of purple ore in this sector
• Depths Eldin mining roads — the NPC mining roads in this area were built near ore veins

Selling vs. Upgrading

Before selling Rubies, check your upgrade queue:

If you've already completed your fire-resist armor upgrades, Rubies are purely a 210 Rupee/unit sell. At 210 Rupees each, a 10-Ruby mining run is worth 2,100 Rupees — comparable to the best early-game money methods.

Ruby Fuse Applications

Ruby-fused weapons create fire damage effects:

• Ruby + Claymore = fire-element two-hander (ignites enemies, very useful vs. ice enemies)
• Ruby + Bow = fire arrow equivalent from bow shots
• Ruby + Shield = cosmetic fire glow, no functional benefit
• Ruby + Spear = fire spear (great vs. Lizalfos and Bokoblins near water where fire forces them out)

Tips

• Flamebreaker Armor is mandatory for farming Death Mountain nodes. Buy it at Goron City (3,000 Rupees total for the set) before your first mining run.
• Elixir alternative: Fireproof Lizard + Bokoblin Guts = Fireproof Elixir. Lasts 10 minutes per high-quality cook.
• Don't fuse your Rubies to weapons until you've completed all fire armor upgrades — the 210 Rupee sell value is worth more than the combat bonus in most situations.
• Goron City shop sells Fireproof Elixirs directly if you're low on materials.
