Rupees Guide — Best Ways to Farm Money Fast

Rupees are the currency of Hyrule — used to buy armor, horses, arrows, and inn stays. TotK has several efficient money-making methods ranging from casual (sell what you find) to optimized (dedicated farming routes). This guide ranks them by efficiency.

Rupee Sources Ranked

| Method | Rupees/Hour | Effort | Requirement | |--------|:-----------:|--------|-------------| | Talus farming | 2,000–3,000 | Medium | Any combat ability | | Ore deposit sweeps | 1,500–2,500 | Low | Cobble Crusher | | Mystic Armor + combat | 1,000–2,000 | Low | Mystic Armor (Poes) | | Amiibo daily scan | 500–800 | Very Low | Amiibo figures | | Cooking + selling meals | 600–1,000 | Medium | Recipes | | Blood Moon castle sweep | 800–1,200 | Medium | None |

Method 1 — Ore Mining (Easiest, Consistent)

What to do: Find ore deposit clusters throughout Hyrule, smash them all, sell the gems at any shop.

Best gem values: | Gem | Sell Price | |-----|-----------| | Diamond | 500R | | Ruby | 210R | | Sapphire | 150R | | Topaz | 80R | | Amber | 10R | | Luminous Stone | 70R |

Best mining locations:

  • Lanayru Mountains — Dense diamond and sapphire ore above Zora's Domain. Climb the mountain ridge and sweep east-west. Yields 3–5 gems per sweep.
  • Death Mountain / Eldin — Ruby-rich ore deposits on the volcanic slopes. Watch for Igneo Talus nearby.
  • Akkala Highlands — Topaz and amber clusters near the citadel ruins.
  • Faron Grassland cliffs — Amber and occasional ruby ore.

Tool: The Cobble Crusher (Goron-sold club) destroys ore deposits in 1–2 hits instead of 5+. Get one from Goron City vendors for ~100 Rupees. It pays for itself instantly.

Blood Moon reset: Ore deposits respawn each Blood Moon. Run the same Lanayru Mountain sweep after every Blood Moon for consistent gem income.

Per sweep yield: Lanayru Mountain ore run takes ~10 minutes and yields 4–8 gems = 800–3,000 Rupees per run depending on diamond luck.

Method 2 — Talus Farming (Gem + XP)

Stone Talus drop a guaranteed Amber and random gems when defeated. Igneo Talus drops Rubies. Frost Talus drops Sapphires.

Best Talus circuit (North Hyrule loop):

  1. Eldin Mountains Igneo Talus → Ruby drop
  2. Akkala Talus cluster (3 Talus in close proximity near old ruins)
  3. Lanayru Frost Talus → Sapphire drop
  4. Central Hyrule Ridge Talus × 2

Per circuit: ~8–10 Talus per loop, Blood Moon resets all. Each Talus = 150–500R in gem drops.

Weakness shortcut: Shoot Talus eye with a silver-material Fused arrow for high burst damage; charge attacks to the ore deposit on the Talus body deal 3× damage.

Method 3 — Mystic Armor Exploit (Best Passive)

How it works: The Mystic Armor set (bought with Poes from Bargainer Statues in The Depths) converts incoming enemy damage into Rupees. Every hit you take pays you instead of hurting you.

Exploit: Equip Mystic Armor → find a large group of weak enemies (Bokoblins, Lizalfos) → let them hit you → collect Rupees.

  • Each enemy hit generates 20–50 Rupees depending on damage
  • A camp of 8 Bokoblins hitting you 3× each = 480–1,200 Rupees passively
  • This is especially powerful in Blood Moon cycles when camps are full

You need: The full Mystic Armor set (see Poes Guide).

Method 4 — Cooking High-Value Meals

Certain meals sell for high prices:

Best selling meals: | Meal | Sell Value | Recipe | |------|-----------|--------| | Hearty Fried Wild Greens | ~120R | Hearty Radish × 3 | | Hearty Salmon Meunière | ~120R | Hearty Bass + Goat Butter + Tabantha Wheat | | Hearty Mushroom Skewer | ~90R | Hearty Truffle × 5 | | Enduring Fried Wild Greens | ~80R | Endura Carrot × 4 |

Hearty ingredient farming: Hearty Radishes grow near most stable areas in central Hyrule. Pick them all on each visit — they respawn on Blood Moon.

Important: Don't sell all your high-value ingredients — Hearty and Endura items are also great for combat. Sell excess only.

Method 5 — Amiibo Daily Scan

If you own TotK-compatible amiibo, scan them daily. The BotW Zelda amiibo has the highest Star Fragment drop rate — Star Fragments sell for 200R each. BotW Link amiibo drop gems and weapons regularly.

Over 30 days of daily scanning with 5 amiibo figures = 3,000–6,000 Rupees passively with zero active play time.

Method 6 — Blood Moon Hyrule Castle Sweep

After every Blood Moon, sweep Hyrule Castle for Royal weapons. Most weapons sell for 60–120 Rupees each at shops.

  • 10 weapons per sweep × 80R average = 800R per Blood Moon
  • Plus gems and materials dropped by castle enemies

See Blood Moon Guide for the full sweep route.

Fast Early-Game Money (Before Endgame Routes)

Sell Amber and Stone at shops. Early Hyrule Castle shops buy Amber for 10R each — not great individually, but 50 Amber = 500R from normal exploration.

Sell surplus cooked meals. Any meal with multiple Hearty ingredients sells for 80–120R. Cook everything with Hearty Radishes you find early.

Hunt Bokoblin camps. Each Bokoblin drops a Horn (weapon Fuse material). Sell unneeded horns at shops (10–30R each). A full Bokoblin camp of 6 enemies = 60–180R in horn drops plus any chest weapons.

Lizalfos Tails: Sell at 40R each. Common drop, accumulates fast.

What Rupees Are For

High-cost items:

  • Malanya revival (Horse God): 1,000R to wake + revival fees
  • Inn stays: 20–80R per night
  • Arrows (by bundle): 28R for 10 arrows
  • Upgrades: Armor upgrades at Great Fairies cost Rupees + materials
  • Shop weapons: Various shops sell decent weapons for 100–300R

Rupee sink most players overlook: The Tarrey Town Housing construction project costs significant Rupees but rewards exclusive items and the permanent housing base. Worth investing in mid-game.

Tips

  • Never sell ore raw if you have a hammer — mining the deposits yourself yields more gems than collecting pre-fallen ore
  • Diamonds are your emergency currency — hold 5–10 for large purchases; sell rest
  • Don't sell Dragon Parts — they're worth more as Fuse materials or cooking ingredients than as sell value
  • Korok Seed selling: Koroks give Hestu Seeds, not Rupees. Don't confuse them.
  • Weapons don't sell for much — sell only absolute junk (base attack under 5); use others as Fuse bases
