Agus Shrine
Agus Shrine — Desert Heat Puzzle
Location: Gerudo Desert, southwest of Gerudo Town Coordinates: (-3860, -2970, 0038) Type: Puzzle Shrine Difficulty: Medium
Overview
Located in the scorching Gerudo Desert, Agus Shrine uses heat and ice mechanics to challenge Link's ability to create safe passage through superheated environments. The puzzle demands careful timing and creative use of ice-based equipment. Desert temperatures outside compound the difficulty — enter underprepared and you'll face both the shrine's puzzles and environmental heat damage simultaneously. This shrine rewards players who think laterally: multiple routes exist for each challenge, and the alternative underground path can save both time and resources on revisits.
Preparation
- Equip the Desert Voe Set or Snowquill Set for temperature resistance in the surrounding desert
- Bring Ice Fruit — attach to arrows to create ice platforms over hot floor sections
- Cold Darner elixirs provide temporary heat resistance if you lack desert armor
- Chilly Elixirs crafted from Chillshroom + any monster part extend survival in the heat
- Stock at least 6 Ice Fruit or Ice Arrows before entering — each heat barrier requires one
- A Strong Bow improves range and accuracy when targeting heat vents precisely
Walkthrough
Step 1: Cool Down the Entry
The first room is superheated with lava-like floor sections that deal rapid damage on contact. Use Ice Fruit fused to an arrow (or an ice Chuchu Jelly arrow) to create a temporary ice platform over the nearest hot section. The platform lasts approximately 8 seconds — enough to cross if you move immediately. Don't hesitate after firing: sprint the moment the platform forms.
Step 2: The Sealed Door Mechanism
Beyond the entry floor, a sealed door requires cooling a heat-locked switch embedded in the wall. Aim carefully at the glowing amber node on the door's left side — a single ice arrow strikes it directly. The door mechanism resets after 15 seconds, so position yourself in front before firing.
Step 3: Underground Route Option
Look for a crack in the left wall of the second chamber — a concealed alternative route leads underground and bypasses the hottest section entirely. Use Ascend through the thin ceiling at the end of the tunnel to reconnect with the main path at the upper level. This bypass saves two ice arrows and is the recommended route on repeat visits or when supplies are low.
Step 4: Ice Bridge Puzzle
A gap in the floor emits super-hot air that instantly melts ice platforms. Fire ice arrows at the heat vent itself — the cold contact temporarily suppresses the updraft, creating a 6-second window to cross. Time your run: fire, wait half a second for the vent to cool, then sprint. A second ice arrow extends the window if your first crossing attempt fails.
Step 5: Final Chamber
The altar is beyond a final heat barrier — a wall of rising hot air that blocks forward movement. Create one more ice platform on the floor directly against the barrier and the updraft will be suppressed long enough to push through. Sprint to the statue and collect your Light of Blessing.
Tips
- Chilly Elixirs or Spicy-Chilly Simmered Fruit grant temporary heat resistance for the desert approach
- Ice arrows have a small area of effect — aim slightly ahead of moving heat sources for better coverage
- The underground bypass in Step 3 is the fastest route — use it on all revisits and speedruns
- If you run out of ice arrows, Ice Fruit fused to any arrow works identically
- Bubbulfrogs spawn occasionally near the shrine entrance at night — worth hunting before entering
