Akinok Shrine — Gloom Bridge Trial

Location: The Depths — North Depths underground cavern Type: Puzzle Shrine — Depths Environmental Puzzle Difficulty: ★★★☆☆ (3/5) — Medium Coordinates: -1482, -3012, -0418 (Depths layer) Required Ability: Ultrahand, Paraglider Reward: Light of Blessing

Overview

Akinok Shrine is one of the few puzzle shrines in the Depths — most Depths shrines are Rauru's Blessing types, but Akinok has a full three-room mechanical puzzle with Gloom environmental hazards. The puzzle rooms are designed specifically around the Depths' signature danger: a floor covered in Gloom that drains maximum heart capacity on contact. The solutions require building above the Gloom surface, illuminating dark rooms before solving them, and navigating moving platforms over a Gloom lake. Preparation quality determines whether this shrine is straightforward or extremely punishing.

Preparation

Depths-specific preparation is mandatory:

| Item | Quantity | Purpose | |------|----------|---------| | Brightbloom Seeds (Giant) | 5+ | Illuminate dark rooms before solving puzzles | | Sundelion × 3 | 3+ | Reverse Gloom damage (cook with hearty ingredient for Sunny meals) | | Sunny meals (Sundelion dishes) | 3–5 | Restore max hearts after Gloom contact | | Ultrahand ability | — | Mandatory for all three rooms | | Paraglider | — | Emergency fall recovery over Gloom lake in Room 3 |

Surface preparation: Reach the Depths via a chasm near the corresponding surface coordinates. The North Depths region requires navigating through Gloom-heavy terrain — activate nearby Lightroots before approaching to create lit anchor points and fast travel.

Room Layout

| Room | Hazard | Puzzle Type | Key Tool | |------|--------|------------|---------| | Room 1 — Gloom Floor | Floor covered in Gloom patches | Build stone bridge above floor | Ultrahand bridge construction | | Room 2 — Dark Room | Complete darkness | Illuminate + place block on plate | Brightbloom Seed + Ultrahand | | Room 3 — Gloom Lake | Gloom lake, floating platforms | Platform timing navigation | Paraglider (emergency) |

Walkthrough

Room 1 — Build a Bridge Over the Gloom Floor

The first room's floor is covered in Gloom patches — irregular dark purple pools that drain maximum heart capacity on contact. No path of safe floor tiles crosses from entrance to exit.

Available materials: Two stone blocks rest on a safe platform at room entrance.

  1. Use Ultrahand to grab the first stone block
  2. Extend it out over the Gloom floor toward the exit — place it to span as much distance as possible without touching the Gloom
  3. Grab the second stone block and attach it to the far end of the first (gold attachment indicator → snap)
  4. The combined two-block bridge spans far enough to reach the exit platform's edge
  5. Walk across the stone bridge — stay centered; edges near the Gloom are acceptable if the blocks are wide enough
  6. Step onto the exit platform

Bridge width: A two-block-wide bridge (side-by-side, not end-to-end) is more stable than a single-block-wide span. If materials allow it, widen rather than extend.

If you fall on Gloom: Sprint immediately to the nearest safe stone block. Gloom contact is per-step — continuous running through Gloom is worse than a single step. Step off, use a Sunny meal immediately to restore the maximum heart that was drained.

Room 2 — Illuminate and Activate

The second room is completely dark — no ambient light, no exit visible.

  1. Throw a Giant Brightbloom Seed into the room before entering — the impact point illuminates a 10-meter radius
  2. With the room lit: identify the pressure plate on the floor and the stone block near the room's side
  3. Use Ultrahand to pick up the stone block
  4. Place it centered on the pressure plate — the plate depresses, a mechanism activates, and a gate opens
  5. Proceed through the gate

Seed throw technique: Throw the Brightbloom Seed underhand (aim slightly upward and throw) to land in the room's center rather than near the entrance. A center-planted seed illuminates both the block and the pressure plate simultaneously.

Dark room navigation: If the first seed doesn't illuminate both key objects, throw a second seed at the darker half of the room. Seeds stack their light — two seeds in a dark room cover the full area comfortably.

Room 3 — Platform Navigation Over Gloom Lake

The final room has a Gloom lake — the entire floor is liquid Gloom. Floating stone platforms move on fixed paths at low altitude above the Gloom surface.

Platform routes:

  1. The platforms move at consistent, predictable speeds — observe one full cycle (10–15 seconds) before stepping on
  2. Board the nearest platform at the edge of the safe entrance area
  3. The platforms' paths lead toward the altar corridor — follow the route that trends toward the far side
  4. At any junction between platforms, jump to the adjacent one as they pass close — timing window is 1–2 seconds
  5. Reach the far platform that connects to the altar corridor entrance

Paraglider recovery: If you fall off a platform, immediately open the Paraglider — it slows descent and gives you 3–5 seconds to steer back toward a platform from above. Falling into the Gloom lake is survivable (exit via any edge that has grip) but drains maximum hearts rapidly.

Altar

Through the Room 3 exit, walk to Rauru's statue and collect your Light of Blessing.

Chest Summary

No chest inside Akinok Shrine — the Light of Blessing is the sole reward.

Tips & Strategy

  • Light first, every time: Room 2's darkness is the most common source of wasted time in Akinok. Throw a Brightbloom Seed before entering; solve in clear light. Never try to solve a dark room by feel.
  • Bridge physics: Stone blocks in Ultrahand are affected by physics — if you extend too far without the far end being supported, the block tips. Keep one end on a safe surface and extend incrementally.
  • Sunny meals are mandatory, not optional: Gloom contact in Akinok permanently removes maximum heart containers until healed with Sundelion dishes or at a surface Goddess Statue. Entering without Sunny meals is a high-risk decision.
  • Platform observation before boarding: Spending 15 seconds watching the Room 3 platforms' full cycle saves 2–3 failed jumps. Identify which platform leads where before committing.
  • Gloom lake depth: The Gloom lake's surface contact deals max heart drain per second. You do not die instantly — you have 3–5 seconds to exit. If you fall in, sprint to the nearest platform base and climb out; don't panic-swim.

Required Abilities

  • Ultrahand — bridge construction in Room 1; block placement in Room 2
  • Paraglider — emergency fall recovery in Room 3 over Gloom lake
