Chakatun Shrine
Chakatun Shrine — With a Heavy Object
Location: Lanayru region, near the Lanayru Road East Gate Coordinates: (3912, 0248, 0086) Type: Puzzle Shrine Difficulty: Medium
Overview
Chakatun Shrine is a weight and current control puzzle in the Lanayru region — the waterway network that surrounds Zora's Domain. The shrine uses flowing water channels and heavy stone objects: water pushes light objects downstream, but heavy objects resist the flow. Positioning heavy stones to dam channels, redirect currents, and create calm crossing zones is the core mechanic. The Lanayru aesthetic — carved Zora stonework, flowing water sounds, and the blue-green light of aquatic architecture — makes this one of the most visually distinctive shrines in the region.
Preparation
- Ultrahand for moving heavy stone objects
- No temperature gear needed — Lanayru is temperate
- Zora Armor is useful if you fall into water channels during puzzles
- No weapons or combat required
- Full hearts for the Lanayru exterior approach — Lizalfos patrol the waterway banks
Walkthrough
Step 1: Dam the Tributary
The first room has a water channel flowing rightward through a gap in the floor — the only path across requires crossing against the current. A heavy stone block sits in the room. Position the block as a dam in the channel upstream — the reduced flow on the downstream side calms the current enough to cross on foot. Don't try to cross the active current; it sweeps Link downstream. Dam first, cross second.
Step 2: Float the Platform
The second room has a pressure plate across the channel — too far to reach by jumping. A wooden platform (light, buoyant) is available. The channel's current will carry the platform from the near side to the far side naturally — place it in the water upstream of the plate. The current carries it directly to the plate position and holds it there under flow pressure. The platform's weight activates the plate; gate opens.
Step 3: Heavy Rock Crossing
The third room has a fast current that immediately sweeps anything lightweight downstream. Two stone paths exist: one via a light wooden bridge (immediately swept away), one requiring Link to stand on a heavy stone slab being moved with Ultrahand. Use Ultrahand to carry the heavy stone slab as a moving platform — its weight resists the current. Stand on the slab while guiding it with Ultrahand across the channel. The technique requires holding Ultrahand contact while also moving your character.
Step 4: Overflow Control
The final puzzle has a water overflow situation — too much water pouring into the exit area, making the exit door unreachable underwater. A series of drains on the chamber floor can reduce the water level when opened. Use Ultrahand to move the stone plugs from each drain — three drains must be opened simultaneously for the water level to drop below the door. Open all three plugs, water level drops, door becomes accessible. Cross to the altar.
Step 5: Altar
The altar is beyond the now-accessible door. Collect your Light of Blessing. The chest contains Opal x3 — water-associated gems useful for Fuse applications and high-value selling.
Tips
- Current always wins against lightweight objects — use heavy stone objects to counter it
- The platform in Step 2 must be placed upstream of the plate — the current carries it exactly to the correct position if placed right
- Heavy stone slab crossing in Step 3: Ultrahand can be maintained while walking — move slowly and maintain the grip
- All three drain plugs must be removed simultaneously for water level drop — remove them in quick succession before the water re-rises
- Zora Armor provides swim speed — useful for quick repositioning if you fall into any channel during puzzle-solving
