Dakayas Shrine — Paddling Through

Location: Faron region, near Lake Hylia shores Coordinates: (1348, -2598, 0024) Type: Puzzle Shrine Difficulty: Medium

Overview

Dakayas Shrine sits near the shores of Lake Hylia in the Faron region, where water is abundant and aquatic navigation is a key survival skill. The shrine's puzzles involve water traversal and Fuse-based propulsion: building paddle boats, fan-powered rafts, and navigating water currents to reach elevated platforms. The shrine reflects the Faron coastal culture — Lurelin Village fishermen would recognize the paddle and sail mechanics Link uses here. A practical and enjoyable shrine that teaches water-based construction applicable to Lake Hylia exploration.

Preparation

  • Basic Ultrahand for raft construction
  • Zora Armor optional but useful if you fall into water during raft-building
  • No temperature gear — Faron region is warm year-round
  • Bow with standard arrows for one optional room
  • No combat inside the shrine — entirely puzzle-focused

Walkthrough

Step 1: Paddle Raft Construction

The first room has a wide water channel. Materials available: two wooden boards and one paddle (a flat wooden blade). Attach the boards side-by-side to create a stable raft base. Attach the paddle vertically to the raft's rear. Ride the raft and use Ultrahand to move the paddle in a rowing motion — pull it backward, release, the raft surges forward. Three paddle strokes cross the first channel.

Step 2: Current Crossing

The second section has a water channel with a moderate current flowing left-to-right. The exit is on the far wall directly ahead. A single Fan is provided. Attach the Fan to the raft's rear, pointing backward. The Fan's thrust counters the current's sideways push — maintain a straight-ahead trajectory by keeping the Fan active continuously. The current is beatable with a single Fan at full thrust.

Step 3: Waterfall Ascent

A waterfall drops 5 meters — the exit is at the top of the fall. Build a raft with a Fan pointed downward at 45 degrees — the angled thrust pushes the raft against the waterfall's base and partially up its face. Supplemented by Sidon's water shield ability (if available), the raft climbs the waterfall. Without Sidon: an alternative route exists via a climbable stone shelf on the left wall — climb manually and leave the raft below.

Step 4: Final Channel — Full Speed

The last crossing is a long straight channel with no current. Build a two-Fan raft for speed — this crossing rewards fast completion. Sprint across using maximum Fan thrust. The altar platform is visible at the far end of the channel throughout, providing clear orientation.

Step 5: Altar

The altar is on the dry platform at the far end of the final channel. Collect your Light of Blessing. The chest contains Zora Greaves — Zora armor legs piece, providing swim speed bonus.

Tips

  • Paddle rowing in Step 1: the paddle must be moved manually with Ultrahand in a back-to-front sweep — it's slower than Fan propulsion but teaches the manual method
  • Fan propulsion is always faster than paddle rowing — use Fans when available for efficiency
  • The current in Step 2 is manageable with a single Fan; the key is keeping the Fan active throughout the crossing
  • Zora Armor provides swift swim speed — useful for recovering objects that fall into the water during construction
  • Lake Hylia is visible from the Faron Skyview Tower after activation — check the full lake layout for future exploration

Nearby Points of Interest

  • Lake Hylia — east, the largest lake in Hyrule with multiple points of interest
  • Lakeside Stable — north of the shrine, nearest rest and cooking facilities
  • Lurelin Village — south coast, fishing village with coastal quests
  • Faron Skyview Tower — southeast, essential for southern Hyrule map activation
