Drulonax Shrine — Snowball Mechanics

Location: Hebra Mountains, central Hebra region Coordinates: (-3214, 2198, 0384) Type: Puzzle Shrine Difficulty: Medium

Overview

Drulonax Shrine is a snowball physics puzzle embedded in the Hebra Mountains — the rugged, snow-covered highlands northwest of Rito Village. The shrine uses the game's snowball mechanic: snow-covered objects accumulate additional snow as they roll, growing in size and mass. Link must use Ultrahand to launch, guide, and time snowball movements to knock down barriers, fill sockets, and create ramp-launching opportunities. The cold mountain setting reinforces the puzzle theme perfectly, and the sight of oversized rolling snowballs in a puzzle context is one of TotK's most charming shrine concepts.

Preparation

  • Snowquill Set or cold-resistance food — the Hebra exterior is cold and the shrine entrance area has open wind exposure
  • Cold-resistance elixirs: Spicy Elixirs from Sunshroom + monster part
  • Ultrahand for guiding and throwing snowball objects
  • No weapons or combat gear needed inside
  • The shrine approach through Hebra involves hostile enemies — carry a weapon for the exterior

Walkthrough

Step 1: Roll Through the Gate

The first room has a small snowball resting on a snow-covered slope. A destructible wooden barrier blocks the far gate. Push the snowball downhill with Ultrahand — as it rolls, it accumulates snow from the covered floor, growing larger. By the time it reaches the barrier, it's twice the original size and shatters the wood on impact. Gate opens.

Step 2: Socket Filling

The second room has a cylindrical socket in the floor that requires a specifically sized snowball to fill — too small doesn't activate it, too large won't fit. Start with the available small snowball and roll it a controlled distance (5 meters of snow-covered floor) to reach the correct intermediate size. Use Ultrahand to stop it before it over-accumulates. Place it in the socket — it fits, weight activates the pressure plate, gate opens.

Step 3: Snowball Ramp Launch

The third section has a gap too wide to cross by jumping. A ramp leads upward with a snowball at its base. Roll the snowball up the ramp (against gravity — use Ultrahand) and release it at the ramp's peak. It launches outward, growing slightly in the air (some snow falls from the ceiling mid-flight), and lands on the far platform. The landing impact activates a switch there. Link then uses a smaller snowball as a bridge — roll it into the gap to create a stepping stone and cross.

Step 4: Avalanche Control

The final puzzle has a large snowball already rolling toward Link's position on a narrow ledge. It will collide and knock Link off if allowed to reach the ledge. Use Recall on the snowball to reverse its roll — it retreats away from Link, revealing the switch it was covering before starting to roll. Hit the switch with an arrow, then release Recall — the snowball resumes its path, but the switch is already activated. Gate opens.

Step 5: Altar

The altar is accessible after the final gate opens. Collect your Light of Blessing. The chest contains Sapphire — a gem that provides cold resistance when Fused and sells for high Rupees.

Chest Summary

| # | Contents | Location | |---|----------|----------| | 1 | Sapphire | Step 5 — near the altar after the final gate. Cold-resistance gem when fused, or sell for high Rupees. |

Tips

  • Snowballs accumulate snow from floor coverage — shorter rolls = smaller; longer rolls = larger; control distance carefully
  • Recall on a rolling snowball reverses it perfectly — use this for repositioning without needing to stop the object manually
  • The socket size in Step 2 is approximately 1.5x the original snowball diameter — count 5 meters of floor contact as calibration
  • Snowballs in TotK's open world also accumulate if rolled — this shrine mechanic applies in Hebra snowfields outside
  • Rito Village south of the Hebra mountains sells the Snowquill Set — complete it before serious Hebra exploration
