Ikatak Shrine
Ikatak Shrine — Depths Combat Trial
Location: The Depths, Central Depths near Great Abandoned Central Mine Ability Required: Combat Difficulty: Hard — combat in Gloom-heavy environment
Overview
Ikatak Shrine is a combat trial deep in the Depths. The arena is suffused with Gloom — the floor has Gloom patches, and the enemy constructs use Gloom-infused weapons that permanently reduce your heart containers. Preparation for this shrine demands Gloom healing food and strong weapons.
Preparation
- Sunny meals are mandatory — cook Sundelions (found on Sky Islands) into meals. Bring 5+. Gloom damage from the floor and enemy weapons permanently reduces heart containers until cured.
- DO NOT enter without Gloom food — the shrine floor has permanent Gloom patches.
- Bring Zonaite-forged weapons (higher attack than surface weapons at this point in the game)
- Flurry Rush opportunities are frequent here — practice your dodge timing
Walkthrough
Phase 1 — Gloom Construct I
- Enter the shrine. Gloom patches cover 30% of the floor (dark red ground) — avoid stepping on them or lose permanent hearts.
- A Gloom Construct I activates. It uses a Gloom-infused spear with extended reach.
- Don't let its weapon hit you: Gloom weapon damage bypasses food healing and permanently reduces hearts. Dodge its swings — don't block.
- Bait its three-hit combo (stab, swing, overhead) and Flurry Rush after the third hit.
- Kill it quickly before the Gloom floor wears you down.
Phase 2 — Gloom Construct II
- After the first construct falls, a Gloom Construct II drops from the ceiling — tougher, with a Gloom axe that has massive swing radius.
- The axe swing creates a Gloom arc on the floor where it hits — avoid the residue area.
- Circle-strafe the construct, forcing it to turn and creating openings. Two Flurry Rush combos should be enough.
Clearing the Arena
- Between fights, eat a Sunny meal to restore any Gloom-eaten hearts.
- When both constructs are down, the arena clears and the altar activates.
Altar
Collect your Light of Blessing.
Tips
- Never stand on the Gloom patches: Learn the safe floor tiles (they're lighter colored) and fight from those zones. Re-learn after each construct's Gloom axe creates new patches.
- Sunny meals are your lifeline: Eat one between Phase 1 and Phase 2 to restore any lost hearts. Don't wait until you're at 2 hearts.
- Gloom weapons can't be blocked: Normal blocking still works (no shield damage) but contact with the gloom-infused weapon still inflicts gloom even through a parry. Dodge, don't block.
- Flurry Rush is safe: During Flurry Rush animation, you're invincible — this is your best damage window and safe from Gloom contact.
- Brightbloom Seeds: Throw one Brightbloom Seed at the start to light up the arena floor and make the Gloom patches more visible against the lit ground.
