Isenrouda Shrine
Isenrouda Shrine — Time Reversal Puzzle
Location: Faron Region, southeast of Kakariko Village Coordinates: 1456, -2108, 0204 Abilities Required: Recall (mandatory) Type: Puzzle Shrine Difficulty: Medium
Overview
Isenrouda Shrine is a dedicated Recall training shrine — the ability to reverse an object's recent movement through time. All three puzzles inside require Recall in different applications: a swinging platform, a rolling boulder, and a continuously rotating gate. Master these three Recall use cases and you'll solve most Recall-based puzzles across Hyrule without needing to think twice.
Location Details
The shrine sits in the eastern Faron / Necluda border region, accessible from Kakariko Village by heading southeast along the canyon roads. The surrounding area has scattered Bokoblin camps and a mid-difficulty climb to the shrine's ledge. From Dueling Peaks Stable, head south into the highland jungle terrain.
Preparation
- Recall must be unlocked (obtained on the Great Sky Island tutorial)
- No combat inside — no weapons or armor adjustments needed
- Bring stamina food if the outdoor approach requires climbing
Detailed Walkthrough
Room 1 — Pendulum Platform
- A heavy stone platform swings in an arc across a wide gap. Its pivot point is fixed above, so it swings left and right on a pendulum path.
- Watch the full cycle: it swings from your side to the far ledge and back every ~6 seconds.
- When the platform reaches the far ledge (maximum extension away from you), activate Recall (ZL + Y) on it.
- The platform reverses — it now swings back toward you and continues past your side. Run onto it as it passes through your position, then ride it to the far ledge as it continues its reversed path.
- Alternative: Wait for the platform at the far end, jump to it, and Recall it from there — it carries you backward to where you started. Then run forward along the floor path if that route is available.
Room 2 — Rolling Boulder Path
- A large stone boulder rolls continuously down a sloped ramp, disappearing into a pit at the bottom. It repeats on a loop — rolling down, resetting, rolling down again.
- You need to pass through the passage the boulder rolls over — but you can't while it's in motion.
- Wait for the boulder to complete its roll and pass your position, then immediately activate Recall on the boulder.
- The boulder reverses direction — it now rolls back UP the ramp, clearing your path to the passage underneath.
- Walk through the passage quickly while the boulder is rolling upward. The reversed path lasts ~8 seconds before Recall ends.
- Chest optional: As the boulder rolls back up, it uncovers a side alcove on the left wall. Check for a chest there before continuing.
Room 3 — Rotating Gate
- A circular stone gate rotates continuously — like a fan blade — with a single opening that sweeps past your position every ~4 seconds.
- The opening comes around regularly, but trying to time a run-through is risky and error-prone.
- Correct solution: Activate Recall on the gate when its opening is facing away from you (the worst position). The gate reverses and sweeps backward — bringing the opening back toward you at reversed-speed. Time your walk-through as the opening aligns with the corridor.
- The Recall-reversed gate moves at the same speed — it's not slower, so don't hesitate when the opening comes.
Final Chamber
Proceed through the rotating gate to the single-room altar chamber. Walk to the Rauru statue and interact to receive your Light of Blessing.
Chest Location
A treasure chest is accessible in Room 2 — when the boulder rolls back up via Recall, check the left-side alcove along the ramp for a hidden chest. Common contents: a Zonaite Sword, Strong Zonai Sword, or material bundle. Don't miss it before proceeding.
Tips
- Recall timing: The ability shows a "ghost path" of the object's previous movement — use this preview (hold ZL + Y without releasing) to confirm the reversed path before committing
- Recall only works on recently-moved objects — if an object is completely stationary with no movement history, Recall has nothing to reverse. Push it first to create a movement history.
- Recall has a time limit: Very old movements (more than ~30 seconds ago) fade from memory. Act while the movement is fresh.
- Combat application: Recall on enemy projectiles (Construct energy beams, Lynel fireballs) sends them back at the attacker — this is a major advanced technique for combat across Hyrule
- Puzzle shortcut: In some Recall rooms, you can skip the intended puzzle entirely by using Ascend through the ceiling above a locked door — always check if Ascend bypasses the wait time
Region Context — Faron / Necluda Border
Isenrouda Shrine sits in transitional terrain between Faron's jungle and Necluda's open highlands. The surrounding area has:
- Blue Lizalfos camps (drop Lizalfos Horn and Lizalfos Tail — useful for elixir crafting)
- Stamella Shrooms along the path (excellent for stamina food chains)
- Bubbulfrogs active after dark in nearby caves (check rock formations at night)
- A good view of Dueling Peaks to the northwest — one of the game's most visually distinctive landmarks
