Joka Shrine
Joka Shrine — Hydraulic Pressure
Location: Lanayru, near Zora's Domain Ability Required: Ultrahand Difficulty: Medium — water pressure and valve puzzle
Overview
Joka Shrine is a hydraulic puzzle — you manipulate water pressure through a system of pipes and valves to move platforms and open gates. Each room requires understanding how water pressure translates to mechanical force, and redirecting it intelligently to power the right mechanism.
Preparation
- No combat
- No special gear needed
- Takes 8–12 minutes
Walkthrough
Room 1 — Basic Pressure
- A water pump on the wall is connected to a piston platform. When pressure is applied, the piston extends and raises the platform.
- Use Ultrahand to grab the pump handle and push it — water pressure builds in the line.
- The piston extends, raising the platform to your level. Step on the platform before the pressure releases (about 8 seconds).
- Keep pushing the pump repeatedly to maintain pressure if needed.
Room 2 — Valve Redirect
- Water flows from a central pipe with two branch valves — valve A (left) leads to one gate mechanism, valve B (right) leads to another.
- Both gates need to open simultaneously, but one pump doesn't provide enough pressure for both at once.
- Solution: Alternate rapidly — open valve A fully (gate A opens), sprint to gate A, pass through, then close valve A and open valve B (gate B opens), sprint through gate B.
- Or find the pressure release valve (a secondary pump in the room) that provides a brief burst of double pressure, opening both simultaneously.
Room 3 — Timed Pressure Hold
- A large hydraulic lift takes 15 seconds of continuous pressure to reach the upper floor.
- The pump requires Link to physically hold the handle down (Ultrahand active).
- Attach a heavy stone block to the pump handle using Ultrahand — the block's weight continuously applies pressure without you holding it.
- The lift rises while you sprint to board it. Ride it to the upper floor and the altar.

Tips
- Pump maintenance: Pressure releases when you stop pushing the pump. In Room 1, push the pump, run to the platform, and sprint across quickly. Don't dawdle.
- Room 2 double pressure: Look for the pressure burst valve before spending time alternating. It's usually on a side wall near the room's water source — a bright blue lever.
- Stone block weight trick: In Room 3, any heavy object (stone block, metal cube) applied to the pump handle provides sustained pressure. Ultrahand-place the block carefully so it rests on the handle, not beside it.
- Riding the lift: Board the hydraulic lift as soon as it begins rising — don't wait for it to fully rise before boarding. You have 15 seconds of press time, which is exactly enough for the full journey.
- Water doesn't damage: The water in this shrine is shallow and safe. If you fall into a water section, wade out and resume.
