Kyononis Shrine
Kyononis Shrine — Spanning the Gap
Location: Central Hyrule, near Hyrule Field Type: Puzzle Shrine Difficulty: ★★★☆☆ (3/5) — Medium Coordinates: -0218, 0934, 0042 Required Ability: Ultrahand, Ascend Reward: Light of Blessing
Overview
Kyononis Shrine presents a two-part construction-and-ascent puzzle — the kind that tests whether you understand both Ultrahand's attachment system and Ascend's ceiling geometry. The first obstacle is a floor gap too wide to jump; the solution is building a plank bridge. The second obstacle is a vertical wall too sheer to climb; the solution is Ascend through a thin ceiling overhang. Each room isolates a single mechanic and demands precision in execution. The shrine's chest is gated behind completing both rooms in the correct sequence.
Preparation
- No items required — shrine provides all materials (planks, no consumables needed)
- Ultrahand must be unlocked (rewarded on Great Sky Island)
- Ascend must be unlocked (also Great Sky Island, Temple of Time reward)
- No elemental resistance needed
Room Layout
| Room | Challenge | Materials Available | |------|-----------|-------------------| | Gap Room | Bridge the floor chasm | Two long wooden planks | | Upper Corridor | Navigate switched gate | Pressure plate (no Ultrahand needed) | | Ascend Alcove | Reach elevated altar level | Thin ceiling overhang (Ascend target) |
Walkthrough
Phase 1: The Bridge — Spanning the Floor Gap
The entry room opens onto a wide chasm — roughly 5 meters across at its narrowest point. The far platform is at the same floor level, making a bridge the natural solution. Two wooden planks rest against the right wall.
Single-plank attempt first:
- Use Ultrahand to grab the first plank (it will highlight orange when targeted)
- Lift the plank and rotate it horizontally using the right stick — position it lengthwise, parallel to the gap's crossing direction
- Carry it to the chasm edge and extend it across — if the plank length reaches the far rim, lower it gently until both ends rest on the stone edges
- Test stability: tap the plank once with any weapon or step on the near end — if it holds without rocking, it's seated. If it tips, use Ultrahand to reseat it.
- Walk across slowly — planks are stable underfoot when both ends are supported, but running can dislodge an imperfectly placed bridge
If one plank isn't long enough:
- Place the first plank as far across the gap as it will reach, resting one end on the near edge
- Grab the second plank with Ultrahand
- Bring the second plank close to the far end of the first — when the gold attachment indicator appears, release; the planks snap together end-to-end
- The combined plank bridge now spans the full 5-meter gap
- Walk across the two-plank bridge to the far platform
Bridge tip: Attach the planks before bridging the gap — it's easier to align a single fused unit than to connect them mid-span while hovering over the chasm.
Phase 2: Upper Corridor — Switched Gate
The far platform leads into a short corridor with a locked gate ahead.
- Scan the right wall of the corridor for an orange pressure plate or amber wall switch
- Stand on the pressure plate (or strike the wall switch) — the gate opens
- Walk through before the timer closes it — approximately 6 seconds, ample time
No Ultrahand required here: This room is intentionally mechanical, giving your hands a rest between the construction phases.
Phase 3: Ascend to the Altar Level
Past the gate, the corridor ends at a stone overhang — the altar platform is above, but the wall face has no climbable handholds and is too tall for a jump.
- Walk under the overhang until you are directly beneath it
- Look upward — the green Ascend indicator glows on the underside of the overhang stone
- Activate Ascend — Link phases upward through the stone and emerges on the altar level above
- Walk forward to Rauru's statue
Chest before ascending: Before triggering Ascend, check the left-side alcove carved into the overhang's base wall — the chest is recessed here. Collect it at ground level; after Ascending there is no easy way back without re-entering the shrine.
Altar
Interact with Rauru's statue and collect your Light of Blessing.

Tips & Strategy
- Fuse before bridging: Attaching the two planks into one unit before attempting to span the gap is dramatically easier than trying to connect them while one is already resting on a gap edge. Assemble on solid ground, then maneuver.
- Right stick rotation: Planks default to the orientation they were found in. Rotate 90° in Ultrahand so the plank's long axis aligns with the crossing direction — an improperly oriented plank bridges nothing and falls into the gap.
- Gold attachment indicator: Ultrahand snaps objects together when they're close enough — a gold glow appears at the contact point. Don't force planks together; bring them in slowly until the snap triggers, then release.
- Plank retrieval: If a plank falls into the chasm, it's not lost — Ultrahand has a long enough range to reach down and retrieve it from above if you're standing on the near rim. Don't panic; fish it out.
- Ascend indicator height: If you can't trigger Ascend under the overhang, you may be standing slightly too close to the wall. Step back 1–2 meters to get a better vertical angle. The green glow is visible from the floor when positioned correctly.
- Chest timing: Collect the chest before using Ascend — the alcove is only accessible from the lower level. After Ascending, there's no descent path without leaving the shrine and re-entering.
Required Abilities
- Ultrahand — grab and position the wooden planks; attach them end-to-end to extend bridge length
- Ascend — phase through the overhang ceiling to reach the altar level above
