Maka Rah Shrine — A Rauru's Blessing

Location: Tabantha Region, Tabantha Frontier highlands Type: Rauru's Blessing (Crystal Carry shrine quest unlock) Difficulty: Easy (interior) / Medium (crystal carry challenge) Coordinates: -3714, 1248, 0203 Required Ability: Ultrahand (for crystal carry) Reward: Light of Blessing

Overview

Maka Rah Shrine is a Rauru's Blessing shrine on the Tabantha Frontier — sealed until you locate a nearby green Zonai crystal and carry it to the shrine's activation pedestal. The crystal-carry mechanic is one of TotK's most common shrine quest types: find the crystal (often several hundred meters away), transport it without dropping it into water or off ledges, and lock it into the pedestal to reveal the shrine. The walk itself teaches Ultrahand precision under real terrain conditions.

Unlocking the Shrine — Crystal Carry

Step 1: Find the Green Crystal

The shrine is initially sealed — a stone pillar with a crystal-shaped indentation marks the activation pedestal at the entrance. A green crystal must be found and brought to this pedestal.

Crystal location: The crystal is within 300 meters of the shrine. Look for a green beam of light rising from the crystal's resting point — visible from elevated terrain or at dusk/dawn when the beam contrasts against the sky.

Finding the beam:

  1. From the shrine's sealed entrance, look outward in all directions for the beam
  2. The beam is most visible at elevation — climb the nearest rock formation for a better sightline
  3. Alternatively: use the Purah Pad scope (zoom in) to scan the surrounding terrain from the shrine's entrance rock

The crystal rests on a ledge, in a shallow cave, or on an exposed rock face — protected from casual discovery but reachable without special abilities.

Step 2: Carry the Crystal

Crystals are carried via Ultrahand — grab the crystal and move toward the shrine while holding it. The carry distance is 200–300 meters on Tabantha's uneven highland terrain.

Carry mechanics:

  1. Approach the crystal and use Ultrahand to grip it — it's a glowing green octahedron approximately 0.5 meters across
  2. Hold it slightly above the ground while walking — this prevents the crystal from snagging on terrain irregularities
  3. Keep the crystal's travel path away from water sources and cliff edges — dropping it into water or off a ledge requires retrieving it from below (Ultrahand works even at significant depth/height if the crystal is reachable)

Terrain hazards on the Tabantha route:

  • Icy streams: Tabantha Frontier has cold water streams. Carry the crystal above the waterline; if it falls in, retrieve it from the bank with Ultrahand at maximum extension
  • Rocky slope transitions: On downhill sections, the crystal may swing forward if Ultrahand hold is released. Maintain grip around corners and on slopes
  • Wind gusts: Tabantha's highland winds can affect Ultrahand positioning during crystal carry. Angle the crystal slightly downwind to compensate

Step 3: Activate the Pedestal

  1. Carry the crystal to the shrine's activation pedestal (the indented pillar at the entrance)
  2. Position the crystal above the pedestal's crystal-shaped slot
  3. Lower it into the slot — the crystal locks in place automatically
  4. A beam of light rises from the pedestal; the shrine materializes fully and the entrance door opens
  5. The crystal remains in the pedestal — you don't need to hold it anymore

Inside the Shrine — Rauru's Blessing

No puzzle. Single corridor ending at the altar chamber.

  1. Enter through the now-open door
  2. Walk the short corridor
  3. Check the right-side alcove — a Treasure Chest on a stone shelf is accessible immediately inside
  4. Collect the chest
  5. Interact with Rauru's statue and collect your Light of Blessing

Tips & Strategy

  • Green beam at dusk/dawn: The crystal's beam is visible from much farther at low light — if you can't find it in midday sun, wait for the light to change or use the Purah Pad scope at maximum zoom from an elevated position.
  • Ultrahand carry height: Hold the crystal 30–50 cm above the ground during transport. Ground-level carry causes it to clip through terrain irregularities and potentially get stuck. Mid-level carry keeps it clear of minor obstacles.
  • Drop recovery: Dropping the crystal is not a failure state. Use Ultrahand at full extension to pick it back up from wherever it lands — including water (float-time is 20–30 seconds before sinking). Retrieve it promptly if it falls in water.
  • Crystal weight vs. movement: The crystal has physical weight in Ultrahand's simulation. On steep downhill slopes, it may pull your hold position forward faster than expected. Lean the carry angle slightly backward on descents to maintain control.
  • Tabantha weather: The Tabantha Frontier has cold temperatures on higher elevations — equip Snowquill gear or bring a Spicy Elixir for the approach to Maka Rah if the shrine is at significant elevation.
  • Fast travel anchor: After unlocking Maka Rah, it becomes a Tabantha fast travel point — useful for the Rito Village questline and Tabantha Bridge Stable access.
