Marakuguc Shrine — Wheel Shrine

Location: Eldin Canyon, north Hyrule lower slopes Type: Puzzle Shrine — Mine Cart and Fan Mechanics Difficulty: ★★☆☆☆ (2/5) — Easy Coordinates: 1589, 0643, 0071 Required Ability: Ultrahand Reward: Light of Blessing

Overview

Marakuguc Shrine is an introductory mine cart and Fan device puzzle — one of TotK's most satisfying low-difficulty shrines. You attach a Zonai Fan to a mine cart, power it along a rail track, and navigate a junction switch to reach both the side chest and the altar. The shrine is mechanically simple but teaches fan propulsion and track routing concepts that scale directly to harder Eldin shrines and Fire Temple cart sections.

Preparation

  • No items required — Fan device and cart provided
  • Ultrahand required — for Fan attachment, junction switch rotation, Fan reversal
  • Flamebreaker Armor not needed inside — only for the Eldin Canyon approach
  • Completion time: 4–6 minutes

Room Layout

| Section | Track Path | Purpose | |---------|-----------|---------| | Section 1 — Start | Straight launch | Board cart, establish Fan propulsion | | Junction | Y-split | Left leads to chest; right leads to altar | | Section 2L — Chest Branch | Left track | Side platform with treasure chest | | Section 2R — Altar Track | Right track | Leads directly to altar platform |

Walkthrough

Section 1 — Attaching the Fan

The starting area has a mine cart on the beginning of the track and a Fan device nearby (on a crate or wall mount).

Fan attachment:

  1. Use Ultrahand to grab the Fan device
  2. Bring it to the mine cart's rear face — the flat back surface facing away from the track's forward direction
  3. When the gold attachment indicator appears, hold the Fan in place — it snaps to the cart's rear
  4. Release; the Fan is now fixed to the cart
  5. Verify orientation: The Fan's exhaust side (the wide opening that blows air) should face backward — this pushes the cart forward. If the Fan's solid back is facing backward, you've attached it reversed; rotate 180° and reattach

Activating the cart:

  1. Board the cart by stepping onto it
  2. Activate the Fan (interact, or it auto-activates on boarding)
  3. The cart begins moving forward along the track
  4. Stand centered on the cart — it maintains stable speed without risk of falling off on straight sections

Section 2 — Junction Switch Navigation

The track reaches a Y-junction where the rails split left (chest route) and right (altar route). A track switch lever determines which way the cart travels.

For the chest (recommended first):

  1. Step off the cart before the junction if it's moving too fast — you need to adjust the switch manually
  2. Use Ultrahand to grab the track switch lever (a small pivoting metal arm at the junction point)
  3. Rotate it to point left — the cart will follow the left rail
  4. Re-board the cart; it travels left to the chest platform
  5. Step off on the chest platform

Chest — Left Branch Platform:

  1. The chest is on the platform at the left track's terminus
  2. Contains a Zonaite Sword + or Fire Arrow bundle — regional Eldin loot
  3. Collect before returning to the junction

Reversing the cart:

To return from the chest platform to the junction:

  1. Rotate the Fan 180° using Ultrahand — flip it so the exhaust faces the opposite direction
  2. Re-board; the cart reverses back toward the junction
  3. Alternatively: step off the cart and walk back to the junction on foot (short distance)

For the altar:

  1. At the junction, use Ultrahand to rotate the switch lever to point right
  2. Re-board the cart; it travels right toward the altar platform
  3. Step off at the altar platform

Altar

Walk from the right-track terminus platform to Rauru's statue and collect your Light of Blessing.

Chest Summary

| Chest | Location | Contents | |-------|----------|----------| | Left-branch terminus | End of left track route from Y-junction | Zonaite Sword + or Fire Arrow ×10 |

Tips & Strategy

  • Fan direction is cart direction: Fan exhaust (the wide blow-opening) facing backward = cart moves forward. Fan exhaust facing forward = cart reverses. Rotate the Fan 180° to reverse. This is the core mechanic for all fan-powered cart shrines.
  • Set the switch before boarding: The junction switch must be in the correct position before the cart reaches it. If you board and start moving before setting the switch, the cart follows the default track direction (usually right/altar). Set switch → board → ride.
  • Cart stability: The Fan-powered mine cart is stable at cruising speed. You won't fall off unless you physically walk to the cart's edge. Stand center, enjoy the ride.
  • Switch retrieval: If you over-rotate the switch with Ultrahand, it may skip past the desired position. Rotate slowly; the switch has two positions (left and right) and locks at each with a click.
  • Marakuguc vs Magda: Both are Eldin mine cart shrines. Marakuguc is easier (single cart, simple junction). Magda (Death Mountain) has two cart sections and a steeper slope. Complete Marakuguc first to build the mechanic intuition before Magda.
  • Eldin approach: Flamebreaker Armor is needed for Eldin Canyon's exterior lava-adjacent paths. If you're clearing multiple Eldin shrines, equip Flamebreaker before the run and keep it on for Marakuguc's approach even though the shrine interior is heat-neutral.

Required Abilities

  • Ultrahand — Fan attachment to cart, junction switch rotation, Fan reversal for cart direction change
