Natabui Shrine — One-Eyed Colossus

Location: Eldin Region, Death Mountain mid-elevation Type: Combat Shrine — Stalnox Trial Difficulty: ★★★☆☆ (3/5) — Medium Coordinates: 1447, 2714, 0488 Required Ability: Bow + Arrow, Combat Reward: Light of Blessing

Overview

Natabui Shrine is a solo Stalnox combat trial — a mid-size skeletal giant with a single glowing eye, high HP, and bone-crushing melee attacks. The Stalnox is mechanically simpler than Constructs (no elemental variants, predictable move set) but more physically imposing — it hits for 6–8 hearts on an undefended strike. The fight follows a bow-to-collapse-to-burst loop: shoot the eye to stagger it, rush in for ground-phase melee, back off before it reassembles. Three to four complete loops clear the fight.

Preparation

| Item | Purpose | Notes | |------|---------|-------| | Strong bow (30+ dmg) | Eye shots for stagger | Hunter's Bow or better | | Bomb Arrows (×10) | Maximum ground-phase damage | Each bomb arrow hit multiplies output | | Strong melee weapon (40+ attack) | Ground-phase burst | Goes directly to the eye on the ground | | 4 healing meals | Buffer for grab attacks | Stalnox grab is high-damage if it connects | | Flamebreaker Armor | Approach (not inside) | Eldin approach requires Flame Guard |

No elemental prep needed inside: The Stalnox is neutral element — no fire, ice, or shock weakness. Damage is the only variable.

Enemy Overview — Stalnox

| Phase | Condition | Behavior | |-------|-----------|---------| | Standing | HP > 30% | Slow patrol, wide sweeps, grab attempt, eye exposed | | Collapsed (bone pile) | After eye hit stagger | Stationary, eye on ground — full melee access | | Reassembly | 4–5 seconds after collapse | Bones reconnect, avoid melee | | Final phase | ~30% HP | Eye detaches and rolls — becomes independent target |

Walkthrough

Phase 1: Establish Sight Lines

The Natabui arena is compact with the Stalnox filling significant floor area. Enter cautiously:

  1. The Stalnox patrols the far side of the arena; it hasn't detected you yet
  2. Check for lava pool adjacency — some Eldin shrine arenas have lava at the margins; if present, establish your safe standing zone away from lava edges
  3. Identify the Stalnox's single glowing eye — it's in the upper-center of the skull face

Phase 2: Eye Shot Stagger Cycle

Core loop — repeat until ~30% HP:

Step 1 — Stagger:

  1. Draw your bow and aim at the glowing eye while at medium range (7–10 meters)
  2. Fire — a direct hit deals significant damage and immediately staggers the Stalnox
  3. It drops to one knee or falls backward — the collapse phase begins

Eye aiming: The eye is in the upper face, roughly at Link's head height when the Stalnox is close. At medium range, adjust vertical aim upward. At long range (10+ meters), the angle is more accessible. Bomb Arrows deal bonus damage on eye hits and provide area splash if you miss by 0.5 meters.

Step 2 — Ground Phase (Burst Window):

When the Stalnox collapses into a bone pile:

  1. Sprint to the downed Stalnox immediately — the collapse window lasts 5–6 seconds
  2. The eye is now on the floor near the bone pile's center — strike it directly with your melee weapon
  3. Jump attack from above for maximum damage (Y button in midair) — lands directly on the eye
  4. Deal 4–6 hits during the collapse window
  5. When bones begin re-glowing: back off at least 5 meters — being too close when it reassembles results in being knocked back for 3–4 hearts

Step 3 — Reassembly:

The Stalnox reassembles in 4–5 seconds. It's invulnerable during reassembly. Back off and re-establish bow range. Wait for it to re-engage, then repeat from Step 1.

Standing attacks to dodge:

Wide sweep: Horizontal arc with arm. Dodge backward (not sideways — the sweep has wide lateral coverage). The backward dodge gives maximum clearance from the sweep radius.

Grab attempt: The Stalnox reaches forward with both hands. Sprint sideways or backward to break the grab range — if grabbed, button-mash to break free before it deals slam damage.

Phase 3: Final Phase — Detached Eye (~30% HP)

At approximately 30% HP remaining, the Stalnox's eye detaches from its socket and rolls independently on the arena floor. The eye is now the sole damage target.

Detached eye behavior:

  1. The eye moves erratically — short rolls in random directions
  2. Speed is moderate; it won't outrun Link but doesn't stand still
  3. It lacks its own attacks — but the Stalnox body may still be active and swinging

Finishing the eye:

  1. Chase the rolling eye
  2. Jump attack from above (Y while airborne) — most reliable hit on a rolling target
  3. Alternatively, bow shot: pause at medium distance, aim ahead of the eye's roll direction, and fire
  4. 3–4 hits end the fight — the Stalnox body collapses permanently when the eye is destroyed

Chest — Arena Side Wall

After the Stalnox falls:

  1. The arena's right side wall has an alcove that becomes accessible post-combat
  2. Chest is visible in the alcove
  3. Contains Hinox Toenail (heavy Fuse material, high damage bonus) or Star Fragment (rare upgrade material)

Altar

Walk to Rauru's statue and collect your Light of Blessing.

Chest Summary

| Chest | Location | Contents | |-------|----------|----------| | Right-wall alcove | Post-combat access | Hinox Toenail or Star Fragment |

Tips & Strategy

  • Jump attacks on the eye: Both the downed Stalnox's floor-eye and the final detached eye are hit most reliably with jump attacks from above. Jump attacks also deal the Y-button aerial bonus damage.
  • Bomb Arrow multiplier: Bomb Arrows fired at the Stalnox's eye deal eye-hit damage PLUS explosion AOE damage. This effectively doubles the per-hit damage output. Use them during stagger windows for maximum efficiency.
  • Reassembly timing: The reassembly animation takes exactly 4–5 seconds. Count in your head after each collapse — at 4 seconds, start moving back. Being caught at 5 meters when it stands up is safe; at 2 meters, it's a knockback hit.
  • Lava awareness (if applicable): If the Natabui arena has lava margins, keep the Stalnox between you and the center rather than being pressed toward lava. Its wide sweeps near lava edges are particularly dangerous.
  • Body attacks to open the eye: If the Stalnox's eye is closed (it blinks periodically), striking the body with any attack forces a brief eye-open response. The eye opens involuntarily when the Stalnox takes body damage — use this to create eye-shot windows.
  • Eldin combo run: Natabui is on Death Mountain's mid-slope; equip Flamebreaker before leaving Goron City and clear Natabui alongside Magda, Tadarok, and other Eldin surface shrines in one protected run.

Required Abilities

  • Bow + Arrow — eye shots are the primary stagger mechanism; no bow = no efficient clear
  • Combat fundamentals — dodge timing, jump attacks during ground phase
