Naydra Shrine
Naydra Shrine — The Dragon's Path
Location: Faron region, south of Mount Lanayru near the Dragon's path Coordinates: (3612, -1286, 0148) Type: Puzzle Shrine Difficulty: Medium
Overview
Naydra Shrine is named for Naydra — the ice dragon who orbits the Lanayru/Faron border region. The shrine's puzzles draw thematically on Naydra's icy nature: ice mechanics, cold chambers, and frozen platform puzzles create an environment that feels like a shrine dedicated to the dragon's elemental domain. Players who have collected Naydra's scale fragments or shard materials will find this shrine thematically resonant. The puzzle design is medium-difficulty with one particularly elegant ice-timing challenge in the third room.
Preparation
- Ice Fruit or ice arrows — required for one puzzle room
- Cold-resistance gear helps but the shrine interior is only moderately cold — chilly elixirs are sufficient
- No combat required inside
- Ultrahand proficiency for ice platform construction
- Full hearts for the Faron/Lanayru border exterior approach, which has moderate enemy activity
Walkthrough
Step 1: Ice Platform Basics
The first room has a gap too wide to jump across. A water channel runs through the floor. Use an Ice Fruit arrow shot at the water surface — it freezes the water solid, creating a flat ice bridge. Cross the frozen section within 10 seconds before it thaws. The room teaches the freeze-and-cross mechanic applied in subsequent rooms.
Step 2: Ascending Ice
The second room has a waterfall. The exit ledge is at the top of the waterfall — 4 meters up. Freeze the waterfall solid with an Ice Fruit arrow: the frozen waterfall becomes a climbable ice wall with natural handholds. Climb quickly before it thaws. The ice holds for approximately 12 seconds — sufficient for the 4-meter climb if you start immediately after firing.
Step 3: Timed Ice Bridge
The third room is the most challenging: a gap crosses a section of rapidly flowing water. The flow is too fast to freeze with a stationary ice arrow — the ice forms but immediately breaks apart. Solution: freeze the upstream section (slowing the flow briefly), then rapidly fire a second ice arrow at the bridge section during the reduced-flow window. The doubled-ice effect holds long enough to cross at a sprint. Two arrows per attempt — practice the timing.
Step 4: Ice Pressure Plate
The final gate requires an ice block placed on a pressure plate — not a frozen water surface, but a free-standing ice block. Freeze a container of water near the gate's side using Ultrahand to position the container over the plate before firing the ice arrow. The frozen water becomes a solid ice block on the plate, activating it. The gate opens permanently.
Step 5: Altar
The altar is beyond the final gate. Collect your Light of Blessing. The chest nearby contains Naydra's Scale — a material from the ice dragon, useful for high-powered cold-element Fuse applications and certain cooking recipes.
Tips
- Ice Fruit arrows freeze water within 2 meters of impact — no need for perfect accuracy
- Frozen surfaces thaw in 10-12 seconds — always sprint immediately after the freeze connects
- The double-freeze in Step 3: fire arrow one at the upstream chokepoint, then quickly fire arrow two at the bridge section before the first thaws
- Cold Darner arrows freeze surfaces and have a slightly different effect than Ice Fruit — both work in this shrine
- Naydra orbits the Lanayru/Faron border at altitude — intercept the dragon there for Scale fragments after completing this shrine
