Pelonuk Shrine
Pelonuk Shrine — Avalanche Logic
Location: Hebra Mountains Type: Puzzle Shrine Difficulty: ★★★☆☆ (3/5) — Medium Required Ability: Ultrahand Reward: Light of Blessing
Overview
Pelonuk Shrine presents a controlled avalanche puzzle — three heavy snow boulders rest at the top of the chamber, each capable of rolling down one of three carved stone channels. Only the correct channel assignments trigger the switches and weight plates needed to open the shrine's two gates. Sending a boulder down the wrong channel wastes it. Observe the room fully before releasing anything.
Preparation
- No special items required
- Snowquill Set for the outdoor Hebra approach (not needed inside the shrine)
- Ultrahand must be unlocked
Room Layout
The main chamber has three boulders (numbered 1–3, left to right) at the top and three channels (A, B, C) descending to the floor below:
| Channel | Destination | Effect | |---------|-------------|--------| | A | Pressure switch | Opens Gate 1 | | B | Weight plate | Opens Gate 2 (requires 2 boulders simultaneously) | | C | Open pit | Boulder lost — useless unless redirected |
A stone deflector block sits loose near Channel C's opening. This is your key tool — position it to redirect a boulder from Channel C into Channel B.
Walkthrough
Phase 1: Open Gate 1 with Boulder 1
- Use Ultrahand to grab Boulder 1 (leftmost)
- Place it at the entrance to Channel A
- Release — it rolls down and lands on the pressure switch
- Gate 1 opens
- Do not enter Gate 1 yet — there's more to do first
Phase 2: Redirect Boulder 2 into Channel B
Channel C's pit is a dead end unless you redirect it:
- Use Ultrahand to grab the stone deflector block from the floor
- Position it diagonally across the top of Channel C, angled toward Channel B
- Test the angle — it should form a ramp that redirects leftward movement toward Channel B
- Grab Boulder 2 (center) and place it at Channel C's entrance
- Release — the deflector redirects it into Channel B
- The boulder lands on the weight plate — but the plate requires two boulders to activate. Gate 2 remains closed for now.
Phase 3: Open Gate 2 with Boulder 3
- Grab Boulder 3 (rightmost)
- Place it at the entrance to Channel B directly
- Release — it rolls straight to the weight plate and joins Boulder 2
- The combined weight triggers the plate — Gate 2 opens
Chest — Behind Gate 1
Sprint through Gate 1 before checking Gate 2:
- The chest is located immediately inside Gate 1's corridor on the left
- Contains Snowquill Headdress
- Grab it now; once you proceed to the altar you can't backtrack to this corridor
Altar
Pass through Gate 2 and walk to Rauru's altar. Collect your Light of Blessing.
Chest Summary
| Chest | Location | Contents | |-------|----------|----------| | Gate 1 corridor | Left side inside Gate 1 | Snowquill Headdress |
Tips & Strategy
- Survey before acting — identify all three channel destinations before releasing any boulder
- Deflector angle is critical — a poorly angled deflector lets Boulder 2 roll past into the pit; rotate it in Ultrahand until it forms a clean ramp
- If Boulder 2 goes wrong — unfortunately you cannot recall it from the pit. Reload your last save and try again
- Sequence matters — releasing Boulder 3 into Channel B before Boulder 2 is on the plate first works just as well; what matters is that two boulders land on the plate simultaneously or in quick succession
- Gate 1 chest first — collect the Snowquill Headdress before heading to Gate 2's altar path
Required Abilities
- Ultrahand — to move boulders to channel entrances and position the stone deflector
