Sarem Shrine — The Fuse Trials

Location: Gerudo Desert, east of Gerudo Town near the Oasis Coordinates: (-2984, -2654, 0031) Type: Puzzle Shrine Difficulty: Medium

Overview

Sarem Shrine is a Fuse ability tutorial and challenge — a rare shrine type that focuses entirely on TotK's Fuse mechanic, teaching players to combine materials with weapons and arrows to solve environmental puzzles and defeat specialized enemies. The Gerudo region is an apt setting for this shrine: the desert's extreme conditions (heat, sand, lightning) demand that players adapt their weapon load-outs situationally, and Sarem directly trains that adaptive thinking. The shrine cycles through fire, ice, and electric Fuse combinations across its four rooms, covering the elemental triangle of TotK's combat system comprehensively.

Preparation

  • The shrine provides materials internally — but bringing your own Ice Fruit, Fire Fruit, and Shock Fruit (5 of each) saves time
  • A bow — required for arrow-Fuse puzzles in rooms two and three
  • Basic weapon proficiency — some combat is involved alongside the puzzles
  • No temperature equipment needed inside the shrine
  • Desert Voe Set for the exterior desert approach

Walkthrough

Step 1: Fire Fuse Room

The first room is sealed by an ice blockade — a wall of ice covering the door. A pile of Fire Fruit sits on the shrine's material shelf. Open the materials menu, select Fire Fruit, and Fuse it to an arrow. Fire the arrow at the ice wall — it melts on impact, clearing the passage. Alternatively, Fuse a Fire Fruit to a melee weapon and slash the ice wall directly. Both solutions are valid and the shrine accepts either approach.

Step 2: Ice Fuse Room

The second room is superheated — a floor vent emits hot air that must be cooled before Link can cross. A Cold Darner rests on the material shelf. Fuse the Cold Darner to an arrow and fire it at the vent — the cold contact suppresses the heat for 8 seconds, creating a crossing window. Sprint across the cooled section immediately. The room also contains an optional chest behind a fire shield — use an Ice Fruit arrow to break the shield and collect a Gerudo Spear from the chest.

Step 3: Electric Fuse Room

The third room has a metal gate operated by a electric switch on the far wall. A Yellow Chuchu Jelly is on the material shelf. Fuse the jelly to an arrow and shoot the switch — the electric discharge activates the gate. A metal-armored Construct guards the switch position; hit it with a Shock-Fused arrow to paralyze it before lining up the switch shot. The Construct drops a Construct Horn on defeat — a useful bow Fuse material.

Step 4: Combination Room

The final room combines all three elements. Three targets are arranged on the far wall — one fire target (blue glow, resistant to fire, must be hit with ice), one ice target (amber glow, resistant to ice, must be hit with fire), and one electric target (red glow, resistant to electricity, must be hit with non-elemental or a blunt impact). Hit all three in any order using the correct Fuse combinations from the material shelf. All three targets active simultaneously opens the altar door.

Step 5: Altar

Collect your Light of Blessing from the altar. The bonus chest in the corner contains a Multi-Shot Bow and Shock Fruit x5 — excellent resources for the wider Gerudo region.

Tips

  • Fuse Fire Fruit to melee weapons for continuous fire damage on ice obstacles — faster than arrows on large surfaces
  • Cold Darner arrows have a 6-8 second window — practice knowing how far you can sprint in that time
  • Electric Fuse arrows paralyze metal-armored enemies for 3 seconds — use this aggressively against Constructs
  • The combination room in Step 4: the non-elemental target can be hit with a bare arrow or a Bokoblin Fang Fused arrow
  • Materials left on shelves after puzzle completion can be taken — grab any unused Shock Fruit before exiting
