Susub Shrine
Susub Shrine — Dark Passage
Location: The Depths, South Depths region Ability Required: Ultrahand Difficulty: Medium — darkness navigation and light-source puzzle
Overview
Susub Shrine is built around the Depths' signature darkness mechanic. The shrine interior is completely dark except for the entrance — you must create and maintain light sources to navigate its chambers and activate switches. A creepy, atmospheric puzzle that rewards Brightbloom preparation.
Preparation
- Brightbloom Seeds required — bring 10+ Giant Brightbloom Seeds for maximum light coverage
- No combat (though darkness makes this feel tense)
- Fuse a Brightbloom Seed to arrows as an "infinite flashlight"
- Takes 10–15 minutes
Walkthrough
Room 1 — Lighting the Path
- The shrine entrance closes behind you, leaving the room completely dark.
- Throw a Giant Brightbloom Seed (or regular Brightbloom) into the room to illuminate it temporarily.
- With the room lit, locate the pressure plate on the far wall. Step on it — the gate to Room 2 opens.
- Grab the Brightbloom Seed light source (it's a stationary glow — pick it up with Ultrahand to carry it forward) and proceed.
Room 2 — Moving Light
- Room 2 has multiple pressure plates scattered across the floor, but only one opens the correct gate.
- Use Ultrahand to carry your Brightbloom light source around the room, illuminating each plate area to find the markings (the correct plate has a green glow).
- Step on the correct plate — the gate to Room 3 opens.
Room 3 — Timed Darkness
- The final room has all plates illuminated for 10 seconds when you enter (a single bright burst), then goes dark.
- During the bright window, memorize the room layout — note the exit location, the chest position, and any obstacles.
- After darkness returns, navigate from memory (or use your remaining Brightbloom Seeds) to find the altar corridor.
Altar
Collect your Light of Blessing.
Tips
- Attach Brightbloom to a stick: Before entering, fuse a Brightbloom Seed to a weapon handle. Holding it gives you persistent light as long as you hold that weapon. Swap to it in dark rooms.
- Giant vs Regular: Giant Brightbloom Seeds create large sustained light sources that don't extinguish. Regular ones are brighter momentarily but fade. Use Giants for exploratory light, Regulars for throwing at distant targets.
- Room 3 memory trick: During the 10-second bright window, sprint to the altar immediately. Don't waste time looking at the chest first — the altar is the priority. The chest can be looted in the Brightbloom light afterward.
- Carry the light: Ultrahand lets you pick up placed Brightbloom lights and carry them with you. You don't need to plant a new one at every room — carry the same light from room to room.
- Don't panic in darkness: Movement in the dark is the same as light — the darkness doesn't change the controls. Take a breath, recall your mental map, and move deliberately.
