Tadarok Shrine
Tadarok Shrine — A Flame and Water Test
Location: Eldin Region, lower Death Mountain foothills Type: Puzzle Shrine — Elemental Mechanics Difficulty: ★★★☆☆ (3/5) — Medium Coordinates: 1673, 0600, 0108 Required Ability: Ultrahand Reward: Light of Blessing
Overview
Tadarok Shrine is a three-room elemental puzzle that introduces two Eldin mechanics in sequence — fire jets and water rafts — then combines them in a final room where rotating a fire jet to melt a blocking ice formation opens the path forward. The puzzle rewards players who understand that Zonai mechanical devices (jets, cannons, fans) can be rotated and redirected with Ultrahand, not just activated in place. This mechanic recurs throughout Eldin and the Fire Temple.
Preparation
- No items required — shrine provides all tools
- Flamebreaker Armor not needed inside — the fire jets damage enemies and melt ice but the shrine's fire-safe flooring protects Link from jet splash
- Ultrahand required for raft placement and jet rotation
- Fire Arrows (optional) — can substitute for the jet in Room 3 but waste ammo
Room Layout
| Room | Challenge | Key Mechanic | |------|-----------|-------------| | Room 1 — Fire Corridor | Timed fire jet blocks path | Sprint timing | | Room 2 — Water Channel | Channel gap + floating raft | Ultrahand raft placement | | Room 3 — Ice + Fire | Ice block seals exit | Ultrahand jet rotation | | Side Alcove | Chest (accessible from Room 3) | Jet redirect reveals passage |
Walkthrough
Room 1 — Fire Jet Corridor
The entrance corridor has a horizontal fire jet mounted on the left wall, positioned to fire across the path. It operates on a repeating cycle.
Timing the jet:
- Stand at the corridor entrance and watch the jet — it fires for 2 seconds, then pauses for 3 seconds
- Count: "fire...fire...pause"
- On the first beat of the pause, sprint forward through the jet's firing path
- You have 3 full seconds to clear the corridor — normal sprint speed takes ~2 seconds
- Continue forward to Room 2
Alternative — Ultrahand jet rotation:
If you find timing stressful, use Ultrahand to grab the jet's housing and rotate it 90° so it fires into the wall rather than across the path. This permanently disables the hazard. The jet mount can be grabbed and rotated from the entry side before stepping into the corridor.
Fire damage note: The jet flame deals ~4 hearts per second of contact. You can survive a partial hit if you sprint through — don't stop mid-corridor.
Room 2 — Water Channel
A water channel (approximately 3 meters wide) separates Room 1's exit from Room 3's entrance. A stone raft rests on the channel's near bank — too wide to jump across unassisted.
- Use Ultrahand to grab the stone raft
- Place the raft in the water — lower it flat onto the water surface; it floats immediately
- Step onto the raft
- The channel's gentle current carries the raft toward the far bank automatically; no paddling or pushing needed
- Step off onto the far platform and enter Room 3
If the raft drifts past the far bank: Use Ultrahand from the raft to steer it — grab a far-bank stone edge and use Ultrahand's push/pull to dock the raft manually.
Raft tip: Don't place the raft too far from the near bank — Ultrahand's reach is about 5 meters. If the raft is too far to grab once in water, it may float away. Place it right at the water's edge.
Room 3 — Rotating the Fire Jet
Room 3 has a large ice block sealed against the far wall, blocking the exit passage. A fire jet is mounted on the right wall, but it's aimed perpendicular to the ice block — firing harmlessly along the wall rather than toward the ice.
Solution — Rotate the jet:
- Use Ultrahand to grab the fire jet's cylindrical housing
- Rotate it 90° using the right stick — swing it so the nozzle points directly at the ice block
- The jet fires automatically while rotating — once aimed at the ice block, its flame hits immediately
- The ice melts in approximately 4 seconds — revealing a hidden passage behind where the ice stood
Chest access:
While the ice melts, look at the newly revealed passage — the chest is visible in an alcove immediately behind the former ice position, on the left side of the revealed passage.
- Enter the revealed passage
- Turn left into the alcove — chest is on the stone shelf
- Contains a Flame Emitter (Zonai device, useful for creating fire zones in the field) or a Ruby
- Collect before proceeding to the altar
Fire Arrow alternative: If you ran out of Ultrahand juice (low Zonai energy), aim a Fire Arrow at the ice block directly. 2–3 fire arrows melt it. This wastes ammo but avoids the rotation puzzle. Not recommended on resource-limited runs.
Altar
Past the revealed passage and chest alcove, continue forward to Rauru's statue. Collect your Light of Blessing.
Chest Summary
| Chest | Location | Contents | |-------|----------|----------| | Room 3 alcove | Behind the melted ice block, left side | Flame Emitter or Ruby |
Tips & Strategy
- Jet timing in Room 1: Count aloud — "one-two, sprint." The 3-second pause window is generous. If you miss it and get hit, you won't die immediately — sprint through anyway and heal after. The room is short.
- Rotate-over-sprint strategy: Rotating the Room 1 jet with Ultrahand is slower than timing the sprint, but eliminates the risk entirely. Use it if you're conserving health for a difficult run.
- Room 2 raft current: The channel's current does the work — don't fight it. Let the raft carry you and steer gently if needed. Trying to push or pull the raft manually against the current with Ultrahand while riding it is unnecessarily complex.
- Room 3 jet aim precision: The jet's nozzle needs to point within ~30° of the ice block's center to melt it efficiently. A rough 90° rotation is sufficient — exact precision isn't required. The jet's flame radius covers the ice block with margin.
- Eldin jet mechanic: Rotating Zonai fire jets to redirect their output is a core Eldin mechanic that appears in the Fire Temple and Goron City dungeon. Mastering it here speeds up the main quest significantly.
- Ice block alternate melt method: If you have a Torch weapon fused with fire, holding it near the ice block also melts it — the shrine doesn't require the jet specifically, just any fire source aimed at the ice.
Required Abilities
- Ultrahand — place raft in water; rotate fire jet toward ice block
