Stables Guide — All 13 Stables Across Hyrule

Stables are essential waypoints in TotK — they let you register horses, save game, cook, sleep to pass time, and advance side quests. Most stables also have a Goddess Statue nearby. This guide covers all 13 locations, their unique services, and the Stable Trotters quest chain.

What Stables Offer

Every stable provides:

  • Horse registration: Register up to 5 horses (6 with the Lucky Clover Gazette questline complete)
  • Horse retrieval: Call any registered horse to the stable
  • Bed rental: Sleep to pass time (30 rupees for regular bed; more for soft bed if available)
  • Cooking pot: Cook meals next to the stable
  • Save point: Sleeping saves your game
  • Traveling merchants: Rotating vendor near some stables

Unique services vary by stable — some have Stable Trotters performers, some have related sidequests, some have nearby shrines or Goddess Statues.

Stable Trotters — Side Quest Chain

Stable Trotters is a performing group that travels between stables. Finding them at each stable gives a unique performance and eventually reward items.

How it works:

  1. Each stable has a "Where are the Stable Trotters?" hint from a stable owner
  2. Track them to the correct stable they've moved to
  3. Watch their performance at each location
  4. Complete the full chain (all 13 stables visited) → reward: special item or recognition

Prize: A unique fabric for paraglider or a certificate/stamp (varies — the final reward after all performances).

Tracking tip: NPCs at stables drop hints like "I heard they went east" or "They were here yesterday." Follow the hints in order — the chain has a specific geographic flow.

Lucky Clover Gazette — Stable Questline

The Lucky Clover Gazette is a newspaper chain linked to stables. Penn (a journalist Rito) appears at stables investigating rumors.

How it works:

  • Penn appears at stables with a news rumor related to that stable's area
  • Completing Penn's rumor investigation at each stable = completing a regional side quest
  • After enough completions: extra horse slot unlocked + newspaper-related rewards

Priority: The Lucky Clover Gazette quests often point to hidden areas, NPCs, or events in each region — they're a great way to discover content you'd otherwise miss.

Stable Tips

Cooking Efficiency

Every stable has an outdoor cooking pot. Batch-cook before leaving:

  • Cook all meals you need for the next exploration zone
  • Use the stable's proximity to a shop (if present) to restock ingredients

Sleeping for Dragon Spawns

Many dragons spawn at specific times. Stable beds let you sleep to the correct time:

  • Farosh: sleep until dawn at Lakeside Stable
  • Naydra: sleep until dusk at Highland Stable
  • Dinraal: sleep until morning at Foothill Stable

Horse Registration Priority

Register your best horse first. With 5 slots and an eventual 6th from the Gazette questline, fill them strategically:

  1. Slot 1: Your primary riding horse (high stats, named)
  2. Slot 2: Backup horse with good stamina
  3. Slots 3-5: Reserve or horses needed for specific quests

Quick Tips

  • Stables = mini fast-travel network — registered at enough stables, you can always travel to the nearest one to a destination via horse retrieval
  • Goddess Statues near most stables — always check for a Goddess Statue before leaving any stable. A Light of Blessing exchange is often available
  • Cooking pot = free resource — the stable pot costs nothing to use. Cook every time you're at a stable with raw ingredients in your inventory
  • Penn's quests are efficient content — the Lucky Clover Gazette chain steers you to high-value regional discoveries. Do Penn's quest at every stable you visit
  • Stable Trotters for light relief — the performances are short and the chain reward is worth it. Track them across stables during normal exploration rather than a dedicated run
