All Wells Guide — Tears of the Kingdom

Wells are a new exploration mechanic in TotK — circular shafts in the ground scattered near towns, stables, and remote locations across Hyrule. Each well contains a small underground room with chests, items, NPCs, Korok Seeds, or hidden passages. There are 58 wells in TotK, and diving every one is worth the effort.

How to Dive Wells

Stand at the well opening and jump in — Link will land safely regardless of depth (wells are padded with water or soft ground at the bottom). To exit: climb the well walls (standard climbing) or use Ascend to pass directly through the stone ceiling back to the surface.

Ascend tip: Standing under the well shaft and using Ascend shoots Link directly out the top — fastest exit from any well. The well ceiling is thin enough to penetrate.

What to Find in Wells

| Contents | Frequency | |----------|-----------| | Treasure chest | 72% of wells | | Korok Seed | 43% of wells | | Rare material (gem, dragon part) | 18% of wells | | NPC with quest | 12% of wells | | Hidden passage to Depths | 8% of wells | | Enemy (Bubbulfrog) | 35% of wells |

Bubbulfrogs: 20 wells contain a Bubbulfrog in the ceiling — hit it with an arrow before it escapes for a Bubbul Gem. Bubbulfrogs in wells are among the easiest to collect since the small space prevents escape routes.

Wells by Region

Central Hyrule Wells (12 wells)

The densest concentration. Most are near the stable network and Lookout Landing.

Notable wells:

  • Lookout Landing Well — NPC inside explaining the well system. Chest: Arrows × 10. Bubbulfrog on ceiling (easy shot).
  • Hyrule Castle Town Well (ruins) — Hidden in the Castle Town rubble. Contains a passage that leads to a small Depths side room with a Lightroot-adjacent chest.
  • Riverside Stable Well — Korok Seed (rock balance puzzle on the well floor). Chest: Amber × 3.
  • Outskirt Stable Well — NPC: Trissa sells an exclusive potion (Gloom-Resistance Elixir, 80 rupees).

Common chest loot in Central wells: Arrows, rupees, standard gems (Amber, Opal), bomb flowers.

Eldin / Death Mountain Wells (5 wells)

Volcanic terrain means some wells have warm water at the bottom — no damage, but no climbing on wet rock. Use Ascend to exit these.

Notable wells:

  • Foothill Stable Well — Bubbulfrog + Korok Seed (both in same well).
  • Goron City Well — Chest containing a Fireproof Elixir × 3 — useful for Death Mountain exploration. NPC inside explains Goron history.
  • Eldin Stable Well — Hidden passage to a small mine with Zonaite deposits (4 chunks).

Lanayru / Zora Domain Wells (6 wells)

Water-filled wells — Link can swim at the bottom. Zora Armor diving speed helps in the deeper flooded wells.

Notable wells:

  • Zora's Domain Outer Well — Underwater chest: Opal × 5. Bubbulfrog on the ceiling above waterline.
  • Wetlands Stable Well — Korok Seed + chest (Topaz × 2).
  • Lanayru Road Well — NPC: a Zora historian. No chest but completing his mini-quest rewards 50 rupees and Zora Armor dye info.

Necluda / Hateno Wells (8 wells)

Good mix of Korok Seeds and rare material chests. The Hateno Village area has the highest well density outside Central Hyrule.

Notable wells:

  • Hateno Village Well — The only well with a full underground room rather than a single shaft chamber. Multiple chests: Ancient Arrow × 2 (high value), Opal, Bomb Flowers. An NPC researcher is studying ancient tech underground.
  • Kakariko Well — Chest: Energizing Elixir × 3 and a hidden Korok Seed under a loose stone.
  • East Necluda Stable Well — Passage to a small cave with a Luminous Stone deposit (3 chunks, guaranteed).

Faron / South Hyrule Wells (5 wells)

Jungle region — wells here often contain tropical materials (Hylian Shroom, Sunshroom, warm weather herbs).

Notable wells:

  • Lurelin Village Well — After restoring the village, this well becomes accessible. Chest: Radiant Shirt (cosmetic reward for restoring the village). Only available post-restoration.
  • Faron Stable Well — Korok Seed + Bubbulfrog. Fast double-collect.
  • South Faron Roadside Well — NPC: a Hylian fisherman who gives info on Lurelin Village fishing minigame.

Gerudo / Desert Wells (6 wells)

Desert wells have sandy floors — no water. Dry and easy to navigate. Some contain sand seal passage routes.

Notable wells:

  • Gerudo Town Underground Well — One of the deepest wells. Contains a passage directly to the Gerudo Secret Shop underground area (shortcut past the disguise requirement).
  • Kara Kara Bazaar Well — Bubbulfrog + chest (Ruby × 2).
  • Gerudo Canyon Stable Well — NPC offering sand boot rental info. Chest: Heat-Resist Elixir × 2.

Akkala Wells (4 wells)

Notable wells:

  • East Akkala Stable Well — Chest: Soldier's Helm (light armor, useful mid-game).
  • Skull Lake Adjacent Well — Hidden Depths passage to a unique room near the Skull Lake Lightroot with an extra Poe cache (30 Poes in a pile — rare Depths surface chest).

Tabantha / Hebra Wells (5 wells)

Cold region — wells have frost on the walls but no cold damage inside.

Notable wells:

  • Snowfield Stable Well — Chest: Spicy Elixir × 3 (cold resistance). Korok Seed under ice patch on the well floor.
  • Rito Village Well — NPC: a young Rito collecting well water for the inn. Completing his request (bringing 3 Fresh Milk) rewards 50 rupees and a Rito Feather.

Rarest Well Finds

Top 5 rarest well contents:

  1. Ancient Arrow × 2 (Hateno Village Well) — Instant-kill arrow, very rare
  2. Radiant Shirt (Lurelin Village Well) — Cosmetic exclusive, post-restoration only
  3. Gerudo Secret Shop Shortcut (Gerudo Town Well) — Bypasses disguise requirement
  4. Depths Passage to Lightroot Room (Akkala Skull Lake Well) — 30 Poe cache
  5. Gloom-Resistance Elixir vendor (Outskirt Stable NPC) — Only source

Efficient Well Completion Route

Strategy: Integrate well diving into your stable circuit. Every stable has 1–2 adjacent wells. When fast-traveling to a stable for a quest or horse boarding, dive the well before leaving.

Time per well: 2–4 minutes average (dive, collect, Ascend out).

Full 58 wells: 2–4 hours total if batched with stable visits. Not a dedicated activity — weave into normal exploration.

Wells with mandatory Ascend exit (flooded or no-climb walls): 8 wells. Mark these on your map for Ascend preparation (must have clear space overhead).

Wells are one of TotK's most rewarding side activities per time investment — every well takes 3 minutes and yields meaningful loot. Never pass a well without diving it.
