Yiga Clan Guide — Hideout, Disguise & Banana Bounty
Yiga Clan Complete Guide — Hideout, Ambushes & Master Kohga
The Yiga Clan is Ganondorf's elite assassin squad — more active in TotK than ever. They ambush Link throughout Hyrule, run their own hideout full of loot, and their leader Master Kohga has four encounters across the Depths. This guide covers everything about the Yiga Clan.
Who Are the Yiga Clan
The Yiga Clan are ex-Sheikah warriors who betrayed their people to serve Ganondorf. In TotK:
- Regular Yiga footsoldiers disguise themselves as travelers, NPCs, and even shopkeepers
- They ambush Link periodically — triggering more often as you progress the story
- Weakness: Yiga Clan members are obsessed with Mighty Bananas — lure them with bananas for easy catches
Yiga Ambushes — How They Work
Trigger: Yiga ambushes become more frequent after you progress past certain story milestones.
How to identify a disguised Yiga:
- They say unusual things — dialogue hints at knowing your business
- Sure tell: Drop a Mighty Banana near a suspicious NPC. If they teleport to grab it and their disguise slips, it's confirmed Yiga
Ambush types:
- Footsoldier (Vicious): Basic Yiga soldier with a scimitar
- Blademaster (Yiga): Harder variant with a two-handed blade
- Bow Yiga: Ranged archer variant during larger ambushes
Drops:
- Rushroom + Mighty Banana (always)
- Occasionally: Duplex Bow (Yiga exclusive — fires 2 arrows simultaneously)
- Sometimes: Yiga Armor set pieces
The Mighty Banana Trick
- Drop a Mighty Banana in front of any suspicious NPC
- If they're Yiga, they teleport to the banana — animation plays, then fight starts
- During the animation: shoot them with an arrow for free bonus damage
- The Yiga is staggered — follow up for easy kill
Where to find Mighty Bananas: Yiga drop them on death. Gerudo region has wild banana plants.
Yiga Clan Hideout
Location: Karusa Valley, Gerudo region (same as in BotW)
Getting to the Hideout
- Approach from north Gerudo, enter Karusa Valley
- The hideout entrance is a cave mouth in the valley
Hideout Rewards
- Yiga Armor set: 3 pieces in chests throughout the hideout
- Duplex Bow: High-value drop from Yiga Blademasters inside
- Mighty Bananas in bulk: Storage areas have dozens
- Yiga Mask: Wearing it extends Yiga tolerance before attack
Stealth vs Combat
- Stealth (Sneaky Elixir + Stealth Armor): Slip through for chest collection
- Combat: Fight every Yiga for Duplex Bow drops — respawns on Blood Moon
Master Kohga — 4 Boss Encounters
Master Kohga is the Yiga Clan leader. He flees after each encounter and reappears deeper in the Depths:
Fight 1 — Great Abandoned Central Mine
- Mechanic: Ultrahand to grab and redirect his thrown balls
- Reward: Depths progress + material
Fight 2 — Deeper Depths
- Mechanic: Adds Recall — reverse projectiles back at him
- Reward: Autobuild enhancement
Fight 3 — Far Depths
- Mechanic: Multi-step puzzle using all 4 abilities
- Reward: Autobuild upgrade
Fight 4 — Deepest Accessible Depths Point
- Mechanic: Most complex — multi-stage puzzle
- Reward: Final Autobuild unlock + rare loot
General Kohga Strategy
- Each fight is puzzle-first, not combat
- Ultrahand is the primary tool in all four fights
- Recall becomes critical in fights 2-4
- He telegraphs clearly — dodge, then use the mechanic window
Yiga Armor Set
Effect per piece: Enemy search time reduced (enemies give up searching faster) Set bonus at two stars: Yiga disguise — multiple enemy types mistake Link for a Yiga member
Upgrade materials: Standard bandit-tier materials (Bokoblin parts, etc.)
Quick Tips
- Always carry Mighty Bananas — free stagger on any suspected Yiga. Costs nothing.
- Ambush = Duplex Bow opportunity — Yiga Blademasters drop this multi-shot bow. Let early ambushes happen as loot events.
- Hideout on Blood Moon — guards respawn, farm Duplex Bows and bananas regularly.
- Kohga fights are puzzle-first — don't brute-force Kohga. Watch, identify the mechanic, solve the puzzle.
- Yiga Mask from hideout — quality-of-life item worth grabbing even if you skip the full armor set.
