Zonai Charges Guide — Battery Upgrades & Crystallized Charge Farming
Your Energy Cell (battery) determines how long Zonai devices run. More battery = longer hoverbike rides, sustained combat machines, and extended sky island exploration. This guide covers the complete battery upgrade chain and the fastest Crystallized Charge farming routes.
The Battery System
Energy Cell — your battery bar shown beneath hearts and stamina
- Each Zonai device drains the Energy Cell while active
- When the bar depletes, all devices deactivate
- Default capacity: 3 rings (1 full circle = 1 ring)
- Maximum capacity: approximately 8 rings with all upgrades
Why battery capacity matters:
- Basic hoverbike depletes 1 ring per ~2 minutes
- Multi-device builds drain much faster
- More battery = more flight, more combat gadgets, more sky exploration
The Upgrade Chain
Step 1: Collect Zonaite
- Mine Zonaite ore deposits (teal-green ore, Depths only)
- Zonaite drops: 1-5 per deposit
- Also dropped by Construct enemies in the Depths
Step 2: Exchange Zonaite for Crystallized Charges
- At any Crystal Refinery (one on Great Sky Island, one in the Great Abandoned Central Mine, Depths)
- Exchange rate: 100 Zonaite = 1 Large Zonai Charge
- Or: pick up Crystallized Charges directly from sky island supply dispensers (faster)
Step 3: Exchange Charges for Battery Upgrade
- At a Steward Construct (Forge-type Construct, found near Crystal Refineries)
- Exchange 100 Crystallized Charges = 1 additional battery ring
- Each ring upgrade adds 1/3 of a circle to your Energy Cell
Total upgrades available: ~5 additional rings beyond the base 3
Crystallized Charge Sources
Sky Island Dispensers (Primary)
- Ball-shaped supply dispensers on sky islands drop device capsules + Crystallized Charges
- Each dispenser hit: 1-3 Crystallized Charges + 1-2 device capsules
- Respawn: After Blood Moon
- Best sky island clusters: Great Sky Island, above Central Hyrule, above Necluda
Sky island farming circuit:
- Launch from Lookout Landing Skyview Tower
- Glide east to the nearest sky island cluster
- Hit every dispenser on every island
- Glide to the next cluster
- Return to tower → repeat after Blood Moon
Depths Mining (Secondary)
- Zonaite deposits throughout the Depths → convert at Crystal Refinery
- Larger Zonaite deposits found near Lightroots (they illuminate the surrounding area including deposits)
- Best Depths mining area: Great Abandoned Central Mine — highest Zonaite density
Construct Enemy Drops
- Depths-based Constructs drop Zonaite on defeat
- Battle Constructs and higher tiers drop Large Zonaite occasionally
- Defeating Construct Boss encounters (Major Constructs) drops 5-10 Large Zonaite
Priority: How Many Battery Rings Do You Need
Minimum for comfortable play:
- 3 rings (base): Fine for single-device use
- 5 rings: Comfortable hoverbike travel
- 7 rings: Extended multi-device builds, sustained aerial combat
Target: 5-6 rings is the practical sweet spot for most players. Maxing to 8 rings is a completionist goal.
Cost to reach 5 rings (2 additional rings):
- 200 Crystallized Charges needed
- If farming sky islands: approximately 2-3 hours of dedicated sky island circuits on Blood Moon days
Quick Farming Route (Sky Islands)
Optimal circuit for Crystallized Charges:
- Start: Lookout Landing Skyview Tower (launch)
- East cluster: 3-4 sky island platforms with dispensers
- Northeast cluster: 2-3 more platforms
- Descent: Return to ground, collect dropped items
- Reset: Wait for Blood Moon (or move to a different cluster)
- Total per circuit: 15-25 Crystallized Charges + device capsules
Blood Moon timing: Dispensers reset on Blood Moon. Running the circuit on Blood Moon night = maximum yield.
Using Zonaite Efficiently
Exchange rates:
- 100 Zonaite → 1 Large Zonai Charge (at Crystal Refinery)
- 100 Crystallized Charges → 1 battery ring (at Steward Construct)
- Direct: Each Crystallized Charge from sky islands counts immediately (no Zonaite conversion needed)
Don't convert everything to battery early — Zonaite is also used by Autobuild to construct builds when you don't have physical parts. Keep 500+ Zonaite in reserve for Autobuild emergency use.
Autobuild Material Cost
When you use Autobuild to recall a build without having the physical parts:
- Each missing device costs Zonaite to replace
- Fan: 16 Zonaite each
- Steering Stick: 10 Zonaite
- Rocket: 25 Zonaite
- Full hoverbike (from scratch): ~42 Zonaite
Keep 500 Zonaite minimum for free Autobuild use. Only convert excess to Crystallized Charges.
Quick Tips
- Sky islands first — Crystallized Charges from sky dispensers count directly toward battery upgrades without needing the Zonaite → Charge conversion step. Sky farming is faster than Depths mining for battery upgrades.
- Blood Moon circuit timing — plan your sky island Crystallized Charge run to coincide with Blood Moon nights. Maximum yield per session.
- 5 rings is the practical target — don't neglect combat and story progression to grind to 8 rings. 5 rings handles 90% of what you'd want to build. Max out rings only in post-game if desired.
- Autobuild Zonaite reserve — always keep 500+ Zonaite for emergency Autobuild use. Don't convert all Zonaite to Charges.
- Construct enemy farming — the Great Abandoned Central Mine has the highest Construct density in the Depths. Clearing it yields 200-400 Zonaite + Construct parts per run.
