Zonaite Armor Guide — Energy Conservation for Zonai Devices

The Zonaite Armor set is a medium-defense armor that reduces the rate at which Zonai devices consume energy from Link's Energy Cell. This makes it essential for players who rely heavily on Zonai contraptions — sky vehicles, combat devices, and Autobuild creations. It is purchased with Zonaite (the Depths ore) and upgraded at Great Fairies.

Zonaite Armor Set Overview

| Piece | Defense (Base) | Defense (Max Upgraded) | |-------|---------------|----------------------| | Zonaite Helm | 3 | 20 | | Zonaite Waistguard | 3 | 20 | | Zonaite Shin Guards | 3 | 20 | | Set Total | 9 | 60 |

Set Bonus (2+ pieces): Charge Up — Zonai devices consume energy more slowly Full Set Bonus: Charge Up (enhanced) — significantly extends Energy Cell duration

Where to Buy the Zonaite Armor

The Zonaite Armor is sold by Cece at the Dispenser Shops located at Zonai Device Dispensers throughout the Sky Islands and Depths.

Primary purchase location:

  • Great Sky Island — The large dispenser on the tutorial island sells Zonaite Armor pieces
  • Sky Island Dispenser Clusters — Any major Zonai Device Dispenser cluster (the large ring-shaped dispensers) has a vendor selling this armor

Cost per piece:

  • Each armor piece costs 3 Large Zonaite
  • Full set: 9 Large Zonaite total

How to get Large Zonaite:

  • Mine Zonaite ore deposits in the Depths (cyan-glowing rocks)
  • Defeat Depths enemies — Frox, Constructs, and Yiga in the Depths all drop Zonaite
  • Exchange Zonaite at the Crystal Refinery (4 small Zonaite = 1 Large Zonaite)
  • Defeat Flux Constructs — each drops 3–5 Large Zonaite

Set Bonus — Charge Up

The Charge Up set bonus reduces energy consumption from all Zonai devices:

| Pieces Worn | Energy Drain Reduction | |-------------|----------------------| | 1 piece | No set bonus | | 2 pieces | ~20% reduction | | Full set (3 pieces) | ~40% reduction |

What counts as Zonai device energy:

  • Fans, Rockets, Flame Emitters, Beam Emitters on constructions
  • Hoverbike propellers
  • Any Zonai device that uses the Energy Cell
  • Autobuild-created contraptions

What does NOT use Energy Cell energy:

  • Sage abilities (these have their own cooldowns)
  • Zonai items used as single-use (Bomb Flower, etc.)

Is the Set Bonus Worth It?

Yes, for builders. If you routinely construct sky vehicles, the Zonaite armor meaningfully extends flight time. A standard hoverbike flight with no armor: ~60 seconds. With full Zonaite set: ~84 seconds — a 40% range extension per Energy Cell charge.

Combined with upgraded Energy Cell: The full Zonaite set + a 6-battery Energy Cell allows extremely long flights and sustained combat device usage.

Skip if: You prefer melee combat and rarely use Zonai devices. Other armor sets (Barbarian, Soldier) offer better combat stats at similar upgrade tiers.

Great Fairy Upgrade Materials

Upgrading Zonaite Armor requires visiting Great Fairies and gathering Depths materials:

Tier 1 Upgrade (★) — 5 Defense per piece

  • Zonaite ×3 (per piece)
  • Requirement: Unlock any Great Fairy

Tier 2 Upgrade (★★) — 8 Defense per piece

  • Zonaite ×5
  • Large Zonaite ×2
  • Requirement: Unlock 2 Great Fairies

Tier 3 Upgrade (★★★) — 12 Defense per piece

  • Large Zonaite ×3
  • Zonai Charge ×5
  • Captain Construct Horn I ×2
  • Requirement: Unlock 3 Great Fairies

Tier 4 Upgrade (★★★★) — 20 Defense per piece

  • Large Zonaite ×5
  • Crystallized Charge ×3
  • Captain Construct Horn II ×3
  • Requirement: Unlock all 4 Great Fairies

How to farm upgrade materials:

  • Zonaite/Large Zonaite: Mine Depths ore deposits; Crystal Refinery exchanges
  • Zonai Charges: Zonai Device Dispensers (spend Zonaite); Depths enemy drops
  • Crystallized Charges: Crystal Refinery (100 Zonaite = 1 Crystallized Charge)
  • Captain Construct Horns: Defeat Captain Constructs on Sky Islands; common drop

Who Should Prioritize Zonaite Armor

High Priority:

  • Builder playstyles — If you build sky vehicles constantly, this armor is essential
  • Depths explorers — The armor is available early and provides useful defense for Depths runs
  • Players with small Energy Cells — The reduced drain extends your device window significantly before you have many batteries

Lower Priority:

  • Combat-focused players — Barbarian Armor or Soldier Armor offer better combat bonuses
  • Stealth builds — Sheikah Armor set is the stealth priority
  • Late-game players with 8+ batteries — With a large Energy Cell, drain reduction matters less

Comparison to Other Armor Sets

| Armor | Max Defense | Set Bonus | Primary Use | |-------|------------|-----------|-------------| | Zonaite | 60 | Charge Up (20–40% energy drain reduction) | Building / Depths | | Barbarian | 63 | Attack Up (increases melee damage) | Combat | | Soldier's | 63 | None | General defense | | Sheikah | 60 | Stealth Up | Sneaking | | Depths (Shadow) | 60 | Night Speed Up | Depths navigation |

Tips

  • Buy early — Zonaite is easy to find once you enter the Depths. Buy the set as soon as you have 9 Large Zonaite and wear it for early Depths runs.
  • Upgrade to Tier 2 first — The jump from base defense (9 total) to Tier 2 (24 total) is significant. Prioritize getting all three pieces to ★★ before working on other sets.
  • Mix with other armor — You only need 2 pieces for the partial Charge Up bonus. Consider wearing 2 Zonaite pieces + 1 combat piece if you want a hybrid build.
  • Crystal Refinery is the bottleneck — Tier 3 and 4 upgrades require Crystallized Charges. Start running Zonaite through the Crystal Refinery early so you're not farming at upgrade time.
