1
The Eagle
Shape: Eagle

Item: Bow

Boss: Aquamentus

Rooms: 6

Keys: 1

Triforce Piece

Location

Central Hyrule — visible from start

Strategy

Your first dungeon. Grab the Bow from the treasure room. Aquamentus spits 3 fireballs in a spread pattern — stand to one side and slash when he pauses.

2
The Moon
Shape: Crescent Moon

Item: Magical Boomerang

Boss: Dodongo

Rooms: 6

Keys: 1

Triforce Piece

Location

Northeast Hyrule — use bombs on the rock face

Strategy

The Magical Boomerang stuns most enemies and has full-screen range. Dodongo is vulnerable to bombs — feed him 2 bombs to defeat him.

3
The Manji
Shape: Manji / Swastika

Item: Raft

Boss: Manhandla

Rooms: 10

Keys: 2

Triforce Piece

Location

Southern Hyrule forest area

Strategy

The Raft lets you access islands and Dungeon 4. Manhandla has 4 snapping arms — destroy each arm with sword or bombs. A single bomb placed in the center kills it instantly.

4
The Snake
Shape: Snake

Item: Stepladder

Boss: Gleeok

Rooms: 12

Keys: 2

Triforce Piece

Location

Reached via Raft from dock on southeast coast

Strategy

The Stepladder bridges single-tile gaps (water, lava). Gleeok is a multi-headed dragon — slash each head off. Detached heads float and shoot fireballs; focus on the remaining attached heads.

5
The Lizard
Shape: Lizard

Item: Recorder

Boss: Digdogger

Rooms: 12

Keys: 2

Triforce Piece

Location

Western Hyrule — hidden entrance revealed by bombing a wall

Strategy

The Recorder is essential — it reveals Dungeon 7 and warps you to cleared dungeon entrances. Digdogger shrinks when you play the Recorder, then hit the small form with your sword.

6
The Dragon
Shape: Dragon

Item: Magical Rod

Boss: Gohma

Rooms: 14

Keys: 3

Triforce Piece

Location

Eastern Hyrule graveyard area

Strategy

The Magical Rod shoots a beam that deals sword-level damage at range. Gohma only takes damage when its eye is open — shoot an arrow (or sword beam) into the open eye for a 1-hit kill.

7
The Demon
Shape: Demon face

Item: Red Candle

Boss: Aquamentus

Rooms: 16

Keys: 3

Triforce Piece

Location

Western lake — use Recorder on the lake to drain it

Strategy

The Red Candle can be used unlimited times per screen (Blue Candle is once). Aquamentus returns but you should be much stronger now. Same pattern — dodge fireballs, slash the head.

8
The Lion
Shape: Lion

Item: Magical Key

Boss: Gleeok (4 heads)

Rooms: 18

Keys: 5

Triforce Piece

Location

Eastern Hyrule — hidden by Armos Knights

Strategy

The Magical Key opens every locked door in the game forever — no more key farming. The 4-headed Gleeok is brutal; use the Magical Rod at range and dodge the detached floating heads.

9
Death Mountain
Shape: Skull

Item: Silver Arrows

Boss: Ganon

Rooms: 24

Keys: 5

Location

Spectacle Rock (north-central) — bomb between the two rocks

Strategy

The largest dungeon. Silver Arrows are required to finish Ganon. Ganon is invisible — the room goes dark. Hit him 4 times with your sword (he teleports after each hit), then fire the Silver Arrows to kill him. Rescue Zelda in the next room.

Dungeon Tips

Always carry at least 4 bombs when entering a dungeon — many walls and shortcuts are bomb-only.

The Magical Boomerang (Dungeon 2) stuns nearly everything. Use it before every fight.

If you get lost, bomb walls in dead-end rooms — many dungeons hide secret passages.

Keys carry between dungeons. If you have spare keys, save them for Dungeons 8 and 9 which are key-intensive.

The Blue Ring (buy for 250 rupees) halves all damage — get it before attempting Dungeons 6+.
