East Necluda Region Guide

East Necluda is one of the most content-dense regions in all of Hyrule. Home to Hateno Village — the largest village in the game — and the recovering Lurelin Village on the southern coast, this region offers dozens of quests, a full Tech Lab experience, a vibrant farming community, and breathtaking coastal views along the Necluda Sea.

Overview

East Necluda occupies the southeastern corner of the overworld map. It is bounded to the north by the Necluda mountains, to the west by Dueling Peaks, to the south by the ocean, and to the east by Akkala and Lanayru regions. The landscape shifts dramatically — from green river valleys and farm fields around Hateno, to tropical coasts at Lurelin, to dense jungle in the Rabella Wetlands.

Region Highlights

  • Hateno Village — Largest settlement in the game with shops, quests, and expanded lore
  • Hateno Ancient Tech Lab — Robbie's research outpost (upgraded from BotW)
  • Lurelin Village — Pirate-attacked village to restore
  • Rabella Wetlands — Rainy jungle zone with unique flora and difficult navigation
  • Cape Cales — Dramatic sea cliffs with caves and treasure
  • Necluda Sea — Explorable ocean with sea-stack rocks and ship wrecks

Rabella Wetlands Skyview Tower

Coordinates: 2185, -2897, 0222

The tower that unlocks East Necluda is inside the Rabella Wetlands — a constantly rainy zone. The tower entrance is blocked by thorny brambles.

Unlocking the Tower

  1. The tower entrance is sealed by wooden Bramble vines
  2. You cannot burn them because it is always raining in this area
  3. Solution: Use Ascend to enter the tower from below
    • Find a climbable rock face or platform near the base
    • Ascend through the tower floor from outside
    • Alternatively, use Ultrahand to create a platform and access the side window

> Key Insight: This is one of several towers in the game with a non-obvious unlock method. Don't waste time trying to dry the area — Ascend is the intended solution.

Hateno Village

Hateno Village is larger, more vibrant, and more quest-heavy than it was in Breath of the Wild. The village now has an ongoing mayoral election that forms a major quest chain.

Village Layout

The village is split by a bridge over the Hateno Bay inlet. Key areas:

  • North side: Kochi Dye Shop, Enchanted Armor Shop, Link's House (if purchased)
  • South side: General store, main plaza, Reede's farm
  • Upper area: Hateno Ancient Tech Lab (Robbie's)
  • East: Emergency Shelter cave access

Key NPCs

  • Reede — Current mayor; central to the election quest
  • Cece — Challenger for mayor; fashion-forward candidate
  • Sophie — Cece's assistant and shop manager
  • Symin — Research assistant at the Tech Lab
  • Robbie — Director of the Ancient Tech Lab (when present)
  • Medda — Runs the Hateno Village farm
  • Tokk — Explorer who camps on the hills above the village
  • Rinnel — Night-time walker; quest involving Skyview flowers

Shops in Hateno Village

East Wind (General Store)

The Mayoral Election Questline

This is one of the most elaborate side quests in the game, spanning multiple objectives and impacting the village visually.

Quest: "Cece's Secret"

Quest Giver: Talk to Sophie near Cece's hat shop Reward: Cece's Hat (cosmetic hat that changes appearance)

  1. Sophie reveals Cece has a late-night secret
  2. Follow Cece at night (use Stealth Armor)
  3. Discover Cece's collection of mushrooms — she loves them despite her fashionable image
  4. Return to Sophie with your finding

Quest: "A Letter to Koyin"

Quest Giver: Koyin near the pastures east of Hateno Reward: Fresh Milk (large quantity) + recipe knowledge

  1. Koyin is struggling with her goats after the Upheaval
  2. Help her round up the escaped goats using Ultrahand to build a temporary fence
  3. She'll thank you with milk and a letter to deliver

Quest: "Reede's Secret"

Quest Giver: Reede's farm assistant Reward: Unlocks next stage of election quest Description: Investigate what Reede grows in his private field. Sneak into the locked section at night.

Quest: "Team Cece or Team Reede?" (Main Election Arc)

Reward: Village improvements + exclusive hat + unique dialogue options Description: The full election arc requires completing both candidates' questlines and making a final choice.

> Note: Neither choice is "wrong." Both unlock different cosmetic outcomes for Hateno Village and grant you their respective hat items.

Hateno Ancient Tech Lab

The Tech Lab on the hill east of Hateno has been updated for TotK. Robbie now focuses on Purah Pad upgrades and Zonai research.

Available Upgrades

Robbie offers Sensor upgrades for the Purah Pad:

  • Sensor+ — Upgrade the Sensor to include more item types
  • Travel Medallion (base) — Place a fast-travel point anywhere (unlock via Side Adventure)
  • Travel Medallion+ — Place up to 3 medallions simultaneously

"Robbie's Research" Side Adventure

Starting point: Talk to Robbie at the Tech Lab

The quest chain sends you to various locations around Hyrule to gather photos for Robbie's research. Completing it unlocks the Travel Medallion+ upgrade.

  1. Talk to Robbie at the lab
  2. He asks you to photograph specific Zonai devices and ruins
  3. Travel to each location, take photos with the Purah Pad camera
  4. Return photos to Robbie for incremental rewards
  5. Final reward: Travel Medallion+ unlock

> Tip: The Camera icon in the Purah Pad shows how many photos Robbie still needs. Complete this early — Travel Medallion+ is one of the best quality-of-life tools in the game.

Cherry the Ancient Furnace

Cherry is a large Zonai furnace-construct in the back of the Tech Lab. She appears inactive but becomes relevant for certain quest items. Examine her for flavor dialogue about ancient technology.

Lurelin Village

Lurelin Village on the southern coast was attacked by pirates (Bokoblins) during the Upheaval and left in ruins. Restoring it is one of the game's most satisfying multi-stage questlines.

"Lurelin Village Restoration Project"

Quest Giver: Bolson near the village entrance Reward: Multiple rewards across all stages; unlocks gambling game

Stage 1 — Clear the Pirates

  1. Bokoblins have taken over the beach and houses
  2. Clear all Bokoblin camps (approximately 15-20 Bokoblins)
  3. Destroy the fortified camp on the large central platform
  4. The sea-borne Bokoblin ships require ranged weapons or jumping aboard

Stage 2 — Gather Building Materials

  1. Bolson needs wood for repairs
  2. Gather 10 bundles of Wood (chop trees throughout the region)
  3. Also need Pebble materials from nearby rocks
  4. Use Ultrahand to carry large logs efficiently

Stage 3 — Villager Return

  1. Several villagers fled to other settlements
  2. Find and convince each to return (they appear in Hateno, Kakariko, and on roads)
  3. Each has a mini-quest or conversation before agreeing to return

Stage 4 — Village Complete

  1. The village is fully restored with all original structures rebuilt
  2. New additions: expanded gambling game, fish shop, and a secret chest under the dock

Rewards across all stages:

  • Various gem stones (Topaz, Opal)
  • Gambling game access (Bow-and-Arrow challenge)
  • Recipe: Seafood Paella (cook with Lurelin cook)
  • Chest: Barbarian Helm (after full restoration)

> Note: Lurelin Village restoration is one of the most rewarding quest chains in the game aesthetically. Return after completion to see the full rebuilt village with unique NPCs and activities.

Rabella Wetlands

The Rabella Wetlands are permanently rainy. This weather prevents fire-based solutions and forces players to find creative alternatives.

Navigation Tips

  • Fire won't work — always raining; use electricity or impact instead
  • Slip and slide — wet surfaces reduce friction; use this for speed or avoid it on climbs
  • Brightbloom Seeds are abundant here — stock up
  • Electric Keese are common enemies; Lightning resist armor helps

What to Find Here

  • Rabella Wetlands Skyview Tower (see above)
  • Multiple Korok Seeds hidden in the dense undergrowth
  • Jirutagumac Shrine (quest-locked)
  • Rare mushrooms: Sunshroom, Endura Shroom in sheltered spots
  • Swift Violet flowers growing along waterways

Cape Cales

Cape Cales is a dramatic sea cliff region at the southeastern tip of East Necluda. The views are stunning and the area hides several secrets.

Key Finds

  • Ishodag Shrine — Wind puzzle on the cliff face
  • Taunhiy Shrine — Deep inside the Cape Cales cave system
  • Cape Cales Cavern — Long cave with a Bubbulfrog, rare ores, and a treasure chest (Knight's Claymore)
  • Sky Island above Cape Cales — Reach via updraft from cliff edge; contains Zonaite and Zonai Wing

Depths Access

Hateno Bay Chasm

Below the bay near Lurelin Village. Leads to the East Necluda Depths — a vast underground zone with several Lightroots and the Ilusuunia Lightroot cluster.

Rabella Wetlands Chasm

In the heart of the wetlands. Leads to the Rabella Depths with dense Gloom fog but rare Zonaite deposits.

Cape Cales Chasm

At the base of the sea cliffs. Leads to a network of underground corridors near the Necluda Sea Depths — some of the best Autobuild schematic chests are accessible from here.

  • Hyrule Bass — Common; basic heart recovery

Forageable Plants

  • Razorshroom near Lurelin (attack-boosting ingredient)
  • Stamella Shroom on all hillsides
  • Fleet-Lotus Seeds along the river west of Hateno
  • Cool Safflina in the meadows east of the Tech Lab

Tips and Strategies

Best Cooking in East Necluda

Hateno's general store sells Fresh Milk, Bird Eggs, and Goat Butter — the three ingredients for Creamy Heart Soups (multiple hearts + bonus heart) and Egg Pudding (full heal).

Best meal: 5x Hearty Truffle (found on dead trees) → Hearty Mushroom Skewer: gives max hearts + bonus yellow hearts.

Traversing Rabella Wetlands

Don't fight the rain — work with it:

  • Use the wet terrain for faster downhill traversal with shield surfing
  • Electric weapons deal bonus damage to wet enemies
  • Bring a water-proof fire source (fire fruit attached to an arrow can briefly ignite even in rain)

Lurelin Village Strategy

Efficient restoration:

  1. Clear all enemies before talking to Bolson (saves confusion)
  2. Pre-gather 10 bundles of Wood before starting Stage 2
  3. For log hauling, build a sled with Ultrahand to drag multiple logs at once
  4. Look for the fleeing villagers during normal exploration — you'll encounter them naturally
