Eventide Island Guide — Survival Challenge & Secret Rewards
Eventide Island Guide — The Remote Southern Island
Eventide Island is a remote island in southeast Hyrule (Faron Sea, south coast). In Breath of the Wild it featured a famous survival challenge. In TotK, the island has been transformed by the Upheaval — it's no longer a strict survival challenge but instead holds unique exploration rewards, a shrine, and hidden secrets for dedicated explorers. This guide covers everything the island contains.
Location and Access
Location: Far southeast of Hyrule, south of Lurelin Village, in the Faron Sea.
How to reach:
- Hoverbike: Fastest method. Fly south from Lurelin Village (15–20 seconds of flight)
- Raft: Build a sailing raft and navigate south from Lurelin coast
- Paraglide from height: Climb to maximum altitude above the Faron coast → paraglide south (requires favorable positioning)
Distance: Approximately 300–400 meters south of the nearest Faron coast. Without a hoverbike, it requires deliberate planning.
What's on Eventide Island in TotK
Unlike BotW: TotK's Eventide Island does not strip Link's equipment. You keep all your gear on arrival.
Main features:
The Island Shrine
A shrine is located on the island — one of the game's more isolated shrine locations.
Shrine type: Varies (exploration/combat depending on when you visit). Completing it gives a Light of Blessing.
Challenge: Reaching the shrine involves navigating the island's terrain features, which include:
- Elevated rocky formations
- Gloom patches in certain areas (Upheaval effect on the island)
- Hidden enemies guarding approaches
Sky Island Above Eventide
The Upheaval created a sky island formation directly above Eventide Island:
- A chunk of the original island is now floating above
- Contains additional chests not on the main island surface
- Accessible by hoverbike or by ascending through the floating rock
Chests on sky island: High-value items (rare bows, armor pieces) rewarded for reaching the floating section.
Underground (Depths) Connection
The Depths section beneath Eventide Island:
- Entry via a chasm on the island surface
- Contains a Lightroot — activating it maps this Depths section
- Small enemy presence in the immediate underground area
- Poe clusters near the Lightroot
Exploration Route
- Land on Eventide Island (hoverbike → land on the center plateau)
- Check for Gloom → eat Sundelion food if Gloom patches are present
- Clear surface enemies → 3–5 Bokoblins or Lizalfos on the island
- Locate the chasm → drop into Depths → activate Lightroot
- Return to surface → climb the rocky formations
- Find the shrine → complete it
- Hoverbike to sky island above → collect sky chests
- Return to surface → collect all remaining items
Average full completion: 15–20 minutes.
Enemy Presence
Surface: Bokoblins and/or Lizalfos (tier depends on your game progression — enemy scaling applies here)
Depths: Gloom Hands may spawn in the Depths section beneath the island (one known trigger zone). Paraglider escape applies.
Sky island: Aerocudas and possibly Soldier Constructs on the floating section.
Rewards Summary
| Reward | Location | |--------|---------| | Light of Blessing | Completing the shrine | | Chest items | Surface hidden chests (2–3) | | Sky island chests | Floating section above island (1–2 high-value) | | Lightroot activation | Depths section | | Poe collection | Depths near Lightroot |
Notable chest contents: The sky island chest has been reported to contain a Savage Lynel Bow or equivalent high-tier bow in some playthroughs. Contents may vary based on world state.
Lurelin Village Connection
Eventide Island is most efficiently combined with the Lurelin Village restoration questline:
- Complete Lurelin Village quest chain
- Use Lurelin as the fast travel base for Eventide approach
- After Eventide, explore the Faron Sea islands between Lurelin and the open ocean
- Several smaller sea islands contain chests and Korok seeds
Quick Tips
- Hoverbike is mandatory for efficient access — swimming to Eventide is possible but takes 5+ minutes and drains stamina. Hoverbike makes it a 30-second trip from Lurelin. Worth completing Eventide only once you have reliable aerial transport.
- Gloom patches on the island — Eventide has some Gloom-covered terrain from the Upheaval. Bring 3–5 Sundelion meals before heading out.
- The sky island above is the hidden reward — most players land on the main island and complete the shrine without looking up. The floating section directly overhead holds better loot. Always look up.
- Depths Lightroot maps south Faron Sea — the Depths beneath Eventide is otherwise unmapped territory. Activating its Lightroot fills in a section of Depths map that's otherwise blank.
- Combine with sea exploration — the waters around Eventide have several tiny islands with chest-on-island treasure or Korok puzzles. Use the hoverbike to hop between them during the same trip.
