Frost Gleeok Guide — Ice Phase Combat, Fire Counter & Drop Farming

The Frost Gleeok is one of the most punishing minibosses in Tears of the Kingdom, combining multi-head coordination with a brutal ice blizzard phase that can freeze Link solid in seconds. Master this fight and you unlock a reliable source of Frost Gleeok Horns — among the most powerful elemental fuse materials in the game.

Quick Stats

| Stat | Value | |------|-------| | Type | Miniboss (Gleeok) | | Element | Ice | | Heads | 3 | | Weakness | Fire (Arrows, Red ChuChu Jelly, Flint fuse) | | Key Drops | Frost Gleeok Horn, Frost Gleeok Shard, Gleeok Wing | | Respawn | After Blood Moon | | Difficulty | Hard |

Where to Find Frost Gleeoks

Frost Gleeoks spawn in cold biomes. Confirmed locations include:

  • Hebra Peak — atop the mountain in northwest Hyrule, near the Rospatha Shrine
  • Snowfield Stable area — north Hebra, patrol along the snowfield
  • Gerudo Highlands — in the mountain pass southeast of Gerudo Desert (rare spawn)
  • Deep Akkala Snowfield — northeast Hyrule, below the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab area

All Frost Gleeoks respawn after every Blood Moon, making any single location farmable on a roughly 7-day in-game cycle.

Recommended Gear

Before engaging a Frost Gleeok, prepare accordingly:

  • Snowquill Armor Set (Level 2+) — grants Unfreeze and cold resistance; you will not be flash-frozen during the ice storm
  • Fire Fruit arrows — 10–15 minimum; fastest way to deal sustained fire damage to all three heads
  • Red ChuChu Jelly fused bow or flint-fused arrows as backup
  • Spicy Pepper dishes or elixirs — cold resistance buffer if your armor isn't upgraded
  • Stamina food — the aerial phase requires heavy dodge spam

Phase 1 — Three Heads, Ground Phase

The Frost Gleeok begins grounded with all three heads active. Each head independently fires ice breath and ice projectiles. Your goal is to stun all three heads before it enters its flying phase.

Head Attack Patterns

  • Ice Breath — a sustained cone of freezing air; sidestep or jump over it
  • Ice Shard Volley — three heads fire alternating spikes; sprint diagonally to avoid
  • Head Lunge — a single head darts forward to bite; perfect-dodge for a flurry rush

Stunning Heads

Hit each head with fire arrows or a fire-element fused weapon. Two to three fire arrow hits stagger a head, exposing the glowing weak spot. Run in and attack with melee to deal maximum damage. Repeat for all three heads.

When all three heads are stunned simultaneously, the Gleeok drops to the ground — this is your highest DPS window. Use a powerful two-handed weapon fused with a Gleeok Horn or Silver Lynel Saber Horn and chain a full flurry. Switch to Flurry Rush if a head reactivates mid-window.

Phase 2 — Aerial Blizzard Phase

Once you've dealt roughly 50% of its total health, the Frost Gleeok takes to the air and triggers its signature ice storm. This phase is where unprepared players get deleted.

Surviving the Blizzard

  • Snowquill Set (Level 2) with Unfreeze cancels flash-freeze — you can still act during blizzards that would otherwise lock you
  • Without cold armor, equip a Spicy Pepper Elixir immediately when the storm starts — it buys 2–3 minutes of resistance
  • Stay mobile; standing still concentrates ice buildup faster
  • Light a campfire using Flint + Wood near the arena entrance before the fight — you can warm up mid-combat if needed

Bringing It Down

During the aerial phase, all three heads fire ice beams from altitude. Use fire arrows to target each head in sequence:

  1. Aim for the glowing core at the center of the neck (below the jaw)
  2. Two fire arrow hits per head stuns it
  3. Stun all three heads → the Gleeok crashes to the ground for a full ground-phase damage window

Repeat this cycle 2–3 times to finish the fight.

Phase 3 — Enrage (Low Health)

Below 25% health, the Frost Gleeok enters a rapid-fire mode where all three heads attack simultaneously with no break between volleys. Stay moving, use your highest-damage fused weapon during ground phases, and burn your best attack food buffs here.

Drop Farming Strategy

Frost Gleeok drops scale with the fight:

  • Frost Gleeok Horn — primary drop; 1–2 per kill (fuse value: +24 ice damage)
  • Frost Gleeok Shard — secondary drop; up to 3 per kill (crafting + fusing)
  • Gleeok Wing — occasional third drop (fuse value: projectile modifier)

Maximizing Drops

  • Equip the Zora Helm (headgear bonus for Gleeok fights) if available for drop rate improvement
  • Use Lucky Clover Gazette quests that trigger near Gleeok spawn points to get bonus rewards nearby
  • Farm the Hebra Peak Frost Gleeok first — easiest terrain access and fastest respawn route

Horn Uses

Frost Gleeok Horns fused to arrows create Ice Blast Arrows that freeze large enemies and deal bonus ice damage. Fused to melee weapons they add +24 and an ice proc. These are top-tier materials for Lynels, Gloom Hands, and Phantom Ganon fights.

Tips & Tricks

  • Paraglider stall — after the Gleeok launches into the air, immediately open your paraglider to gain altitude and get fire arrow shots at all three heads from above
  • Bomb Flowers don't stun heads but deal splash damage — use them to chip all three simultaneously if fire arrows run low
  • Recall on ice projectiles lets you reverse them back into the heads for a free stun with no arrow cost
  • Autobuild a fire-shooting contraption using a Flame Emitter + Stake before the fight if you have the Zonaite — it can sustain fire on heads while you dodge
  • Save before engaging — if you mismanage the blizzard phase, reload and try again rather than burning resources
