Maren's Tip
Remember — if a shrine gives Rauru's Blessing with no puzzle inside, the real challenge was reaching the entrance. Check the surrounding area!
Walkthrough
- Step 1: Enter Gunkatak Shrine in the Hebra region and prepare for a three-wave combat trial with escalating difficulty.
- This is one of Hebra's harder combat shrines, featuring ice-themed enemies in every wave.
- Bring fire-element weapons if you have them — they deal double damage to all ice enemies.
- At minimum, carry 10+ arrows and your strongest melee weapon.
- Step 2: Wave 1 — Three Ice-Keese swarm from the ceiling immediately upon entry.
- These bat-like enemies are individually fragile (one hit kills each) but they attack in a swirling pattern that interrupts your melee attacks and freezes you on contact.
- The optimal response: fire a single Fire Arrow into the center of the swarm.
- The fire splash damage hits all three Ice-Keese simultaneously, killing them instantly.
- If you lack Fire Arrows, use a wide horizontal swing with a two-handed weapon to clip all three in one sweep.
- Step 3: Wave 2 — Two Ice Lizalfos emerge from hidden alcoves on either side of the arena.
- These are fast, aggressive melee fighters with a dangerous ice-breath attack that freezes you for 3 seconds on hit.
- Critical warning: do NOT block their attacks with your shield.
- Ice Lizalfos freeze your shield on block, rendering it unusable for 10 seconds and leaving you defenseless.
- Use dodge-based combat exclusively.
- Step 4: Fight the Lizalfos one at a time.
- Lure the first one toward the narrow doorway between the entry corridor and the main arena — the doorway creates a natural bottleneck that prevents the second Lizalfos from flanking you.
- When the first Lizalfos attacks, perform a side dodge to trigger a Flurry Rush (the slow-motion counter window).
- Land five to seven rapid strikes during the Flurry Rush to deal massive damage.
- Two Flurry Rush cycles defeat each Lizalfos.
- Step 5: Wave 3 — After both Lizalfos fall, a Stalnox drops from a ceiling trap door into the arena center.
- This is the same mini-boss type as the Isu Shrine Stalnox — a massive skeletal Hinox with a glowing eye in its ribcage.
- Apply the standard eye-shot strategy: wait for it to charge, fire an arrow at its glowing eye to stagger it, then sprint to the dropped eye on the ground and attack it repeatedly with your strongest weapon.
- Three stagger-and-strike cycles defeat the Stalnox.
- Step 6: After the Stalnox falls, all enemies are cleared and the altar unlocks.
- Before claiming the blessing, check the left alcove — a treasure chest contains a Great Frostblade (30 attack power, freezes enemies on hit — paradoxically effective against fire enemies despite this being an ice-themed shrine).
- Step 7: Proceed to the altar and claim your Light of Blessing.
- Hidden chest: The Great Frostblade in the left alcove.
- Ability needed: No shrine abilities required — this is a pure multi-wave combat challenge.
- Pro tip: If you brought a Flameblade or any fire-fused weapon, every enemy in this shrine takes double damage from fire.
- A single Flameblade can carry you through all three waves without needing arrows, making this shrine trivially easy with the right preparation.
