Step-by-Step Walkthrough
1
Travel to Zora's Domain
Head east from Lookout Landing toward the Lanayru region. Follow the path through Zora River, past Inogo Bridge. Be prepared for rain (the sludge causes constant downpours, making climbing difficult). Equip the Zora Armor for faster swimming, or use Splash Fruit to clear sludge-covered paths.
2
Speak with Prince Sidon and Investigate the Sludge
At Zora's Domain, find Prince Sidon at the central plaza. He explains that sludge is pouring from a massive formation in the sky above. Before ascending, you must complete a prerequisite: find King Dorephan hiding in a cave behind a waterfall near Pristine Sanctum, and obtain the Zora Armor from Yona.
3
Clean the Sludge from the Ancient Zora Waterworks
Sidon asks you to clear sludge from key locations. Use Splash Fruit (throw them or fuse to arrows) to dissolve sludge covering switches and pathways. Clean the waterway at Mipha's Court to activate an updraft that launches you skyward.
4
Ascend to the Water Temple in the Sky
Use the massive waterfalls and updrafts created by cleaning the waterworks to reach sky islands above Lanayru. Navigate between floating islands using Zora Armor swimming and paraglider. Sidon joins you for the ascent. Reach the massive floating Water Temple structure.
5
Activate the Four Water Faucets
Inside the Water Temple, you must open four water faucets to lower the central sludge level. Each faucet requires solving water-flow puzzles using Sidon's water shield ability (creates a protective water bubble around Link that also cleanses sludge on contact). Key mechanics include using Ultrahand to redirect water pipes and Recall on floating platforms.
6
Defeat Mucktorok (Water Temple Boss)
Mucktorok is a small shark-like creature that creates a massive sludge construct around itself. Use Sidon's water shield to cleanse the sludge armor, exposing the tiny Mucktorok inside — then attack it directly. In phase 2, Mucktorok creates a sludge-covered arena and summons sludge tidal waves. Use Sidon's shield to stay clean and repeat the exposure-and-attack cycle three times.
7
Claim Your Reward
Sidon awakens as the Sage of Water and pledges his vow. You gain Sidon as a permanent companion whose water shield ability protects from attacks and cleanses sludge/fire. The rain over Zora's Domain stops, the sludge recedes, and the domain is restored to its pristine state.
