Step-by-Step Walkthrough

1

Travel to Gerudo Town

Head southwest from Lookout Landing across Hyrule Field. Pass through the Gerudo Canyon (use the cave shortcut near Gerudo Canyon Stable). Equip the Desert Voe Set for heat resistance during the day, and bring cold-resistant gear for nighttime desert travel. Gerudo Town is accessible to all genders in TotK.

2

Speak with Riju and Defend Gerudo Town

Find Riju in the Gerudo Town shelter (underground bunker beneath the town). She explains Gibdo swarms are attacking from the desert and a massive hive has appeared near the Lightning Temple. Before proceeding, you must help defend Gerudo Town from a Gibdo siege — use Riju's lightning ability to electrify your arrows and destroy the Gibdo hive nests at the town gates.

3

Cross the Gerudo Desert to the Lightning Temple

With Riju as your companion, cross the sandstorm-ravaged desert heading south. Navigate by following the pillars of light from ancient Gerudo waypoints. Fight through Gibdo ambushes along the route — Riju's lightning ability is essential as Gibdos are weak to electricity. Reach the massive buried temple structure in the southern desert.

4

Navigate the Lightning Temple

The Lightning Temple is a multi-level underground pyramid filled with sand traps and mirror puzzles. You must redirect beams of light using mirrors and Ultrahand to illuminate dark chambers and activate ancient Gerudo mechanisms. Use Riju's lightning strike on metal conductors to power locked doors. Find and activate the four light reflectors across the temple floors.

5

Defeat Queen Gibdo (Lightning Temple Boss)

Queen Gibdo is a towering moth-like creature with a devastating sand beam attack. Phase 1: Use Riju's lightning strike on Queen Gibdo to break her sand armor, then attack with melee weapons. She summons Gibdo spawns from hive pillars — destroy the pillars with lightning arrows first. Phase 2: Queen Gibdo takes flight and fires sand tornadoes. Shoot her with lightning-charged arrows to ground her, then attack. Three ground-and-attack cycles defeat her.

6

Claim Your Reward

Riju awakens as the Sage of Lightning and pledges her vow. You gain Riju as a permanent companion whose lightning field ability electrifies nearby attacks and is devastating against groups of enemies. The sandstorm lifts from Gerudo Desert, the Gibdo threat ends, and Gerudo Town reopens fully with all shops and services.

Save frequently during this quest — some story sequences have tough combat encounters with no checkpoints.
