Quest Overview

Paya has discovered an ancient stone tablet in the Kakariko Village shrine that references a "testament" hidden by the previous village elder before the Upheaval — a sealed document containing historical accounts of events not recorded anywhere else. The testament is hidden in three parts across locations the elder described in riddles: under the first cherry blossom, behind the shrine of her mother, and above the place where the village watches the dawn.

Step-by-Step Walkthrough

1

Speak with Paya About the Stone Tablet

Paya found a tablet during a cleaning of the Hidden Kakariko shrine. The engravings describe a testament the previous elder hid before a coming calamity — she anticipated danger. Three riddles point to its three sections. Paya asks Link to help find them; she interprets the riddles while Link searches the physical locations. The contents may include records that predate even the Sheikah archives.

2

Find Part One — Under the First Cherry Blossom

Kakariko has three cherry blossom trees. The "first" is the oldest — a large gnarled tree at the village's original eastern entrance, planted when the village was founded. A sealed stone box is buried at its base. Dig with a shovel-substitute (Fuse a rock to a weapon and swing at the base). The first section describes events during the founding of Kakariko — the Sheikah's original covenant with the Royal Family.

3

Find Part Two — Behind the Shrine of Her Mother

The elder's mother ran the small ancestor shrine at the south end of the village — a private family shrine, not the public Hidden Kakariko shrine. It's a weathered stone alcove with faded offerings. Behind the stone back panel (Ultrahand lifts it out) is a sealed Sheikah container. The second section covers the elder's firsthand account of the first Great Calamity and the decisions that shaped Kakariko's fate.

4

Find Part Three — Above the Dawn Watch Point

The village's dawn watch point is where the guards monitor the eastern ridge at first light — the old watchtower east of the main path. "Above" means the tower's peak platform, above the watch floor. The third section is sealed in the tower's stone capstone. Use Ascend to pass through the tower roof and check the capstone from above — the sealed cavity is inside the stone itself.

5

Return All Three Sections to Paya

Bring all three sections to Paya. She assembles the testament and reads it by lamplight. The document describes events, alliances, and decisions from the elder's era that fill significant gaps in Sheikah history. Paya copies key passages for the archives. She gives Link the Sheikah Eye Talisman, a decorative amulet worn by Kakariko's elders, as thanks for recovering her ancestor's final words.
