Kilton, the eccentric monster enthusiast from Breath of the Wild, has opened Monstrous Gear in Tarrey Town — a shop that sells monster-themed accessories and unlocks special dye colors based on your monster-hunting progress. Speak with him to learn about his challenge system: hunt specific monsters and bring back their materials to unlock new inventory tiers. His brother Koltin (the Bubbul Gem trader) operates nearby.

Complete the First Hunting Challenge

Kilton's first challenge: bring three Bokoblin Horns (dropped by any Bokoblin when defeated), three Moblin Horns, and three Lizalfos Tails. These are common materials from basic monster fights. Return the materials and Kilton unlocks the first reward tier: Monster Extract (5 units) and the Blue Monster Dye color for armor customization. Monster Extract is an ingredient that adds random cooking buffs when added to recipes.

Complete the Advanced Hunting Challenges

Higher-tier challenges require rarer materials: Silver Lynel hooves, Gloom Hands' Phantom Ganon Skulls, and Frox parts from the Depths. Each challenge unlocks increasingly useful dye colors: red, purple, and black variants that match the game's monster aesthetic. The Phantom Ganon dye color turns armor jet black with golden trim — the most visually striking option in the game.

Unlock All Dye Colors and Collect Monster Extract

Completing all of Kilton's challenges unlocks the complete Monstrous Gear dye palette plus a steady supply of Monster Extract for purchase. Monster Extract's randomized cooking effects make it useful for players who want to experiment with recipes. The shop also sells the Monster Mask series (Bokoblin, Moblin, Lizalfos) which let Link pass undetected through camps of the corresponding monster type.
