Step-by-Step Walkthrough
1
Meet Impa at Kakariko Village
Travel to Kakariko Village and find Impa near the entrance. She has been researching the massive geoglyphs — enormous images carved into Hyrule's terrain that are only visible from high in the sky. She suspects they contain hidden memories from the ancient past, similar to the Dragon's Tears. To photograph the first geoglyph, she has designed a hot air balloon gondola that needs Link's help launching.
2
Help Impa Launch the Hot Air Balloon
Find the balloon gondola Impa prepared near the open field southeast of Kakariko. The basket is attached to a large balloon, but the flame mechanism needs fuel. Use a Zonai Flame Emitter attached to the basket's burner point with Ultrahand, then activate it to heat the air inside the balloon. The balloon rises when enough heat is generated — hold position to maintain altitude and let Impa take initial photographs.
3
Photograph the First Geoglyph from the Sky
While airborne above the balloon basket, use your Camera function (ZL to aim, then capture) to photograph the geoglyph pattern visible in the terrain below. The image is enormous — a stylized figure carved into the grass and rock. Impa uses the photograph to identify the depicted figure from ancient Zonai records. This starts the Dragon's Tears quest chain and reveals more geoglyph locations across Hyrule.
4
Return to Impa and Claim the Camera Upgrade
Land the balloon by cutting the flame emitter's power and gliding down. Impa analyzes your photograph and confirms her theory — the geoglyphs are messages from the ancient past. As thanks for helping with the research, she provides a Camera Rune upgrade that improves photo resolution and allows tagging photographed objects for compendium tracking. The geoglyph quest chain is now unlocked with twelve more to find.
