Step-by-Step Walkthrough

1

Learn About the Golden Horse

At Highland Stable in Central Hyrule, a Hylian horseman named Harlow tells Link about a magnificent golden horse he has spotted roaming the fields north of Hyrule Castle — believed to be descended from Princess Zelda's own royal steed. The horse is described as having a pure gold coat, white mane, and an unusually calm but aloof temperament. Harlow challenges Link to tame it and register it at a stable.

2

Locate the Golden Horse

The Golden Horse roams the broad grasslands between Hyrule Castle and Eldin on the north side of the main road. It travels in a wide circuit and is most reliably found in the open fields near Akkala Span. Approach crouching from downwind — the horse is skittish and will gallop away if it detects movement. Eat a Sneaky Elixir (lizard and silent mushroom cooked together) to make your approach invisible.

3

Tame and Register the Golden Horse

Sprint and mount the Golden Horse while crouching, then immediately begin soothing it with button presses before your stamina depletes. The horse requires three to four soothe cycles before it accepts Link as its rider. Ride it directly to the nearest stable — Highland Stable is closest. Register it with the stable attendant who confirms it matches historical descriptions of the Royal Family's horse lineage.

4

Claim the Royal Bridle and Reward

Return to Harlow at Highland Stable and show him the registration certificate for the Golden Horse. He is thrilled and presents Link with the Royal Bridle — a unique golden bridle that fits only this horse and maximizes its bonding stats when equipped. The Golden Horse has exceptional base stats (speed 5, strength 4, stamina 3) making it one of the best mounts in the game for overworld travel.
