Gerudo Highlands Skyview Tower
One of the most remote and challenging towers in Hyrule, perched at 701 meters elevation in the frozen Gerudo Highlands above the Gerudo Desert — the second highest tower in the game. Map region unlocked: Full western Gerudo including the Gerudo Highlands, the Gerudo Sand Sea, the westernmost map boundary, and the ancient ruins visible in the far western desert. The Gerudo Highlands are famous for their striking thermal paradox: directly below lies the blazing Gerudo Desert requiring heat resistance, while the highlands themselves demand maximum cold resistance — the temperature transition happens within a few hundred meters of altitude and notoriously catches unprepared players. The highlands contain some of Hyrule's rarest geological features: permafrost crystal formations, deep ice caves, and high-altitude frozen ponds that act as natural mirrors reflecting the sky. Diamond and Sapphire ore nodes are particularly concentrated here due to extreme cold preserving ancient mineral deposits. Several Frost Talus stone golems roam the highlands and drop high-value gems (Diamonds, Sapphires, Rubies) when their gem-heart weak points are defeated. The tower reveals the full Gerudo Sand Sea to the west — an arid zone with its own hidden ruins, the Leviathan skeleton excavation site, and ancient Gerudo ceremonial structures.
Activation Puzzle Walkthrough
The Obstacle
The tower is located at extreme elevation (701 meters — the second highest tower in the game) in the frozen Gerudo Highlands, the paradoxical high-altitude cold zone that sits directly above the blazing Gerudo Desert. The entire upper ascent is level 2 cold or higher. The terrain consists of sheer frozen cliff faces with no established trail and extreme exposure to wind. No terminal puzzle exists once you arrive, but the ascent is a sustained mountaineering and survival challenge requiring simultaneous cold resistance management and stamina conservation.
The Solution
Equip the full Snowquill Armor set at level 2 for cold immunity. Cook maximum-duration cold-resist meals (double Spicy Pepper + meat: 12:30 each) as insurance for emergencies. Critical preparation: also bring 1–2 heat-resist meals for the lower desert approach before the cold zone begins — the thermal shift from desert heat to highland cold happens within a short altitude band and can catch unprepared players. Approach from the lower Gerudo Canyon side — the eastern slopes above the canyon are less sheer than the western approach from the sand sea and have more climbable ridgeline segments. Use Zonai fans, rockets, or a balloon-and-fan build to supplement vertical traversal where climbing would drain all stamina. The terminal activates immediately on contact once you reach the summit area. Map region unlocked: The full western Gerudo including the Gerudo Highlands, the Gerudo Sand Sea, and the westernmost map boundary region.
Tips
Level 2 cold resistance is absolutely mandatory for the upper highlands — a single unprotected minute above 600 meters altitude deals serious cold damage and will freeze Link completely if ignored.
The thermal shock hazard is real: as you ascend from the desert you go from needing heat resistance to needing cold resistance within 200 meters of altitude. Prepare both food sets before beginning the ascent.
Minimum supplies: two cold-resist meals (12:30 each), two stamina-recovery meals (Endura Carrot), one heat-resist meal for the lower desert, and one emergency hearts meal.
The eastern slope approach from above Gerudo Canyon provides the gentlest gradient — approach from the canyon tower and head southwest-upward along the ridgeline rather than tackling the western face.
Frost Talus roam the highlands — do not engage them unprepared, but each one drops Diamonds and Sapphires worth 500+ rupees from its gem heart. Plan a return trip once combat-ready.
Ice caves on the highlands contain paradoxically growing Brightbloom Seeds, Sapphire ore nodes, and occasional Yiga Clan ambushes — enter with a solid combat weapon in hand.
Build a Zonai rocket-boosted wing from materials found on the ascent for a quick 200–300 meter altitude gain to skip the hardest vertical climbing sections on the upper face.
After launching, glide west to reveal the Gerudo Sand Sea and the Leviathan skeleton excavation site — a vast western desert zone with unique exploration content and ancient Gerudo ruins.
