Stealth Food Guide — Moving in Silence

Stealth (noise reduction) lets Link approach enemies, animals, and sleeping creatures without triggering detection. Sneaky food reduces the noise you make while moving — essential for horse taming, sneaking past Lynels or Gleeoks, and korok seed puzzle access in enemy camps. This guide covers the best stealth food and when it's better than the Stealth Armor set.

What Stealth Food Does

Sneaky food reduces Link's noise radius — the detection bubble that causes enemies and animals to hear your footsteps. With high enough stealth:

  • Horses can be approached without bolting
  • Lynels and Gleeoks don't detect you at normal walking distance
  • Enemy camps can be traversed without triggering alerts
  • Wild animals (deer, birds) don't flee before you reach them

Stealth Level 1: Minor noise reduction — animals still detect at close range Stealth Level 2: Significant reduction — horses and most wildlife can be approached from medium distance Stealth Level 3: Maximum reduction — horses can be tamed easily, most enemies won't detect while walking

Best Stealth Ingredients

Foods (Cook into Sneaky Meals)

Silent Shroom (Stealth +1)

  • Mushroom found in dark, damp caves and under cliff overhangs at night
  • Where to find: Common in caves across Hyrule, especially Hyrule Field caves and Necluda cave systems. Also found in the forested areas around Korok Forest.
  • Most consistent stealth food ingredient

Silent Princess (Stealth +2)

  • Rare blue flower — the iconic Zelda flower
  • Where to find: Hyrule Ridge, Lanayru region meadows, Akkala highlands. Blooms in areas with gentle breezes.
  • More potent than Silent Shroom but harder to find in bulk

Sneaky River Snail (Stealth +2)

  • River snail found in slow-moving water — Necluda River, Lanayru wetlands, Zora's Domain waterways
  • Excellent ingredient — slow rivers near Zora's Domain have dense snail populations

Critters for Stealth Elixirs

Sunset Firefly (Stealth)

  • Firefly found at dusk and night in forested areas — Faron forests, Korok Forest edge, Necluda woods
  • Combine with monster parts for stealth elixirs

Sneaky River Snail (also usable as elixir critter)

  • Works in both food recipes and elixirs when combined with monster parts

Best Stealth Recipes

Maximum Stealth Meal (Horse Taming / Lynel Sneak)

3x Sneaky River Snail + 2x Silent Princess

  • Yields: Stealth Level 3, ~5:00 duration
  • Enough to tame multiple horses in one session or approach a Lynel from behind
  • The best horse-taming recipe in the game

5x Sneaky River Snail

  • Yields: Stealth Level 3, ~6:00 duration
  • Fully farmable from Zora's Domain rivers — highly efficient

Standard Stealth Meal

4x Silent Shroom + 1x Sneaky River Snail

  • Yields: Stealth Level 2, ~5:00 duration
  • Solid all-purpose stealth option when snails are scarce

5x Silent Shroom

  • Yields: Stealth Level 1–2, ~4:00–6:00 duration
  • Budget stealth meal — easiest ingredients to find in bulk

Stealth Elixir

2x Sunset Firefly + 3x Monster Horn (any tier)

  • Yields: Sneaky Elixir, ~4:00–8:00 duration depending on horn quality
  • Use when food ingredients aren't available

Key Stealth Food Use Cases

1. Horse Taming (Most Common Use)

Approaching wild horses requires crouch-walking to near-contact distance without triggering flight. Stealth Level 2–3 food makes this trivial:

  1. Eat Sneaky meal before approaching
  2. Crouch-walk from downwind (approach from behind/side)
  3. With Level 3 stealth, you can walk at normal crouch speed and horses stay calm until touch range
  4. Soothe by pressing ZL when mounted to prevent bucking

Best horses to tame with stealth food: The fastest horses in Hyrule (black with white spots, or 5-speed variants found in Akkala meadows) bolt extremely fast — stealth food is mandatory for these.

2. Lynel Sneaking for Mounted Attacks

Lynels can be approached from behind while they're stationary. With Stealth Level 3:

  1. Spot a stationary Lynel (grazing or paused)
  2. Crouch-walk to near contact from behind
  3. Mount by pressing A when close enough
  4. Start attacking immediately — you get free mount swings before it notices you

This skips the dangerous initial engagement entirely.

3. Korok Seed Camps

Some korok puzzles are in enemy camps. Stealth food lets you complete puzzles without clearing the entire camp first.

4. Yiga Clan Hideout

The Yiga Clan Hideout requires passing Yiga Blademasters. Stealth Level 3 combined with crouching makes the patrol routes manageable.

Stealth Food vs. Stealth Armor

| | Stealth Armor | Sneaky Food | |--|--|--| | Coverage | Permanent (while worn) | Time-limited | | Max Level | Level 3 (full set + upgrades) | Level 3 | | Cost | Buy in Kakariko Village | Ingredient farming | | Best for | Sustained stealth gameplay, Yiga runs | Horse taming, occasional sneak |

Route: Use sneaky food for horse taming early. Buy Stealth Armor from Claree's shop in Kakariko Village once you have rupees. Full Stealth Armor at 2-star provides permanent Level 3 stealth — better than food for sustained stealth play.

Kakariko Village Stealth Armor prices:

  • Stealth Mask: 500 Rupees
  • Stealth Chest Guard: 500 Rupees
  • Stealth Tights: 500 Rupees
