Speak with Cece at Her Shop in Hateno Village

Find Cece at her boutique near the dye shop in Hateno Village. She is agitated — someone in the village has been wearing a hat with a mushroom design suspiciously similar to her signature Cece Hat. She suspects industrial espionage and asks Link to discreetly question three specific villagers: the farmer Medda near the east gate, the inn owner Koyin by the cheese shop, and the child Tokk who plays near the windmills.

Interview the Three Suspected Villagers

Speak with Medda, Koyin, and Tokk in sequence. Each has a different excuse and deflects questions about the hat. Medda claims he bought his mushroom hat from a traveling merchant. Koyin says she knitted hers from a pattern she found in an old book. Tokk admits he got a mushroom hat as a gift but cannot remember from whom. Compile all three responses and return to Cece with the collected testimony.

Investigate the Book Koyin Mentioned

Return to Koyin and ask specifically about the old pattern book. She produces a worn copy of a Hylian craft almanac — inside is a mushroom hat pattern nearly identical to Cece's design, dated 40 years before Cece was born. This reveals the mushroom hat pattern is traditional Hateno folk craft, not Cece's original invention. The mystery is both solved and complicated: Cece independently reinvented an ancient local pattern.

Report Back to Cece and Receive the Hat

Present the almanac evidence to Cece. She goes through stages of disbelief, embarrassment, and then philosophical acceptance. She concedes that being part of Hateno's living craft tradition is actually more meaningful than originality. As thanks for the investigation, she hand-crafts a personalized Cece Hat for Link — the mushroom cap headpiece is a wearable armor item with modest defense and a charming aesthetic.
