Maren's Tip
Remember — if a shrine gives Rauru's Blessing with no puzzle inside, the real challenge was reaching the entrance. Check the surrounding area!
Walkthrough
- Step 1: Enter Sarem Shrine in the Gerudo region and prepare for a solo combat encounter against a Sand Bokoblin Captain — a significantly more dangerous variant of the standard Sand Bokoblin with elevated defense, increased health, and a devastating two-handed club attack that deals 5+ hearts of damage per swing.
- The arena is a wide open space with a raised rocky outcrop in the center where the Captain patrols.
- Step 2: Do not engage the Captain head-on from ground level.
- Instead, immediately head left from the entrance and climb the rock formation on the arena's left side.
- The rocks provide a natural staircase of ledges reaching the same elevation as the Captain's patrol outcrop — approximately 6 meters above the arena floor.
- Step 3: From the elevated position, observe the Captain's patrol pattern.
- It walks back and forth across the outcrop, pausing at each end for about 3 seconds.
- Wait until it walks away from your position, then perform a drop attack — jump from the rocks above and press Y during the descent.
- Drop attacks deal triple damage against unaware enemies, and the Captain's large health pool makes this opening strike critical for a fast kill.
- Step 4: Immediately after landing the drop attack, the Captain becomes alert and will attempt to blow a horn to summon reinforcements.
- You have approximately 2 seconds to interrupt this call.
- Fire an arrow at its face — a headshot staggers it for 3 seconds and cancels the horn blow permanently (it does not attempt the call again).
- If the horn succeeds, two additional Sand Bokoblins spawn, making the fight significantly harder.
- Step 5: With the Captain staggered from the headshot, switch to your strongest two-handed weapon and deliver a full combo (four to five swings).
- The Captain's remaining health should be nearly depleted after the drop attack plus the full combo.
- If it survives, it will attempt a slow overhead club swing — sidestep and deliver one or two finishing strikes.
- Step 6: Once the Captain falls, it drops a Captain's Gerudo Scimitar (32 attack power — one of the best Gerudo weapons) and a Bokoblin Guts (rare Fuse material).
- The altar sits on the elevated platform above the now-cleared outcrop — climb up and claim your Light of Blessing.
- Hidden chest: On a narrow ledge behind the rocks on the left side (the same rocks you climbed for the drop attack), a chest contains an Opal.
- Ability needed: No shrine abilities required — this is a pure combat and positioning test.
- Pro tip: The drop-attack-then-headshot sequence demonstrated here is the optimal engagement pattern for every Captain-tier enemy in TotK.
- Always seek high ground before engaging a Captain, deliver the drop attack, then immediately interrupt any horn calls.
- This prevents reinforcements and gives you a massive damage advantage.
