Maren's Tip
Remember — if a shrine gives Rauru's Blessing with no puzzle inside, the real challenge was reaching the entrance. Check the surrounding area!
Walkthrough
- Step 1: Enter Iyu Shrine in the Lanayru region and observe the central mechanism — a large wooden water wheel sits partially submerged in a flowing channel.
- The wheel's rotation controls two sliding doors via a chain-and-gear linkage: the left door is currently open (leading to a dead end), and the right door is currently closed (blocking the path forward).
- Step 2: The water wheel rotates clockwise by default, which keeps the wrong door open.
- Use Ultrahand to grab the wheel's rim and manually push it counterclockwise — against the water flow.
- You need to apply sustained force for about 3 full rotations until the gear mechanism clicks and locks into the reversed position.
- Step 3: As the wheel reverses, watch both doors simultaneously.
- The left door slides shut while the right door grinds open, revealing the correct path forward.
- The gear lock holds the new position permanently, so the doors will not reverse again.
- Step 4: Walk through the now-open right door into the side chamber.
- A chest sits on a pedestal in the center containing a Zora Sword (15 attack power, deals bonus damage when Link is wet — an excellent weapon for the water-heavy Lanayru region).
- Do not skip this chest.
- Step 5: Exit the side chamber through the far corridor.
- This path loops around behind the now-closed left door and connects directly to the altar room.
- Walk to the altar and claim your Light of Blessing.
- Hidden chest: The Zora Sword chest in the side chamber behind the right door is the shrine's only chest.
- It is directly on your path, but rushing players sometimes walk past it.
- Ability needed: Ultrahand is the only ability required.
- The skill being tested is sustained rotational force application — pushing objects against resistance rather than simply lifting or placing them.
- Pro tip: The Zora Sword from this shrine pairs exceptionally well with Sidon's water ability later in the game.
- Fuse it with a Zora Spear Tip or Silver Lizalfos Horn for a devastating water-element weapon that hits like a truck in rainy conditions.
